    Peace and Blessings Family,

I'm almost ashamed to admit this, as it seems so "ghetto" ... lol ... to be using vaseline to grease my scalp ... but that's exactly what i use! I don't really like it either, because it is soooooo heavy a grease ... but my scalp and hair is soooooooo thirsty for the oil ... it sucks it right up, like it's some light weight oil, and not the heavy grease that it is!

I just don't know what to think about this hair of mine.

When i was perming, i used a very light oil, mostly for sheen ... my hair just didn't require the heavy oil ... but once i went natural ... oh my gosh ... my hair was so dry, my scalp so hungry for the oil ... it was tender, ached for the oil! ... it was really tender in those beginning days, and i didn't know why! Finally, i used some vaseline to grease my scalp, and ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ... all the tenderness in my scalp went away, and she drank it like she'd just traveled across the Kalahari! That was a really weird experience, but once i stumbled on what she needed, all was well.

But i don't like using the vaseline! It's just soooo heavy and greasy !!!

I'm wondering if there is something else you all can recommend, that isn't nearly as heavy or greasy as vaseline, but does the same great job as vaseline does for me?

    Ohhhh gosh ... i can't even believe i'm admitting this !!!

    Thanks in advance Family!

Hey Sis Destee, I use coconut oil. (Almond oil is a good choice, too!) I also like Shea butter, not the pure shea butter (i donn't like the smell!) but the creamy, watered down stuff.

I'm a barber on the side, you should use COCONUT OIL that you cook with instead of vaseline, or Natural Vegetable Glycerin, natural products are better then the other stuff

My hair is very dry too. I use a mixture of 1/3 coconut oil(infused w/ herbs), 1/3 shea butter and oil and 1/3 conditioner(humectress). works fine and doesn't clog the pores.
    good luck!

yes destee do that and another note.....Vaseline truely do clog the pores where the hair can't breath....that's a No No !

Dry hair, being a very common hair type, benefits from external treatments such as herbal conditioning oils, as well as from a diet that includes beneficial foods such as proteins, cereals, nuts, fish, lean meat, fresh fruit and vegetables. So called beauty treatments' and fashion trends such as bleaching, dying, harsh chemical perms, heated rollers, tongs and back combing should be avoided, as they can have a devastating effect on dry hair.
harsh greasy wax based and other harmful heavy grease can be very harmful to the new growth and scalp.

    Try HAIR MILK
This light, fast-absorbing lotion for the hair is made with essential oil of lemongrass to stimulate natural oil production. Vitamins C and E provide an antioxidant boost while a hint of lily of the valley fragrance perfumes hair beautifully. Hair Milk is ideal for defining natural and giving hair loads of shine and bounce.

    Benefits:
Lemongrass stimulates scalp circulation and adds luster to dull hair.

Sweet almond oil, a natural nut oil that is easily absorbed by the scalp.

so almond oils and Olive oils are best for hair it won't clog pores up or damage
    the new growth.

    VASELINE is a No NO !!!! RED FLAG------STOP !
