I one day would like to write a fictional novel...but I have several ideas of stories...some I've posted on here, others I have not...But the problem is I have tons of unfinished material.
I freestyle write...I write along as it comes into my head...I can get the story off to a good start with a climax, but then that's it.....*poof* writer's block.
I lose momentum in the story and then another pops up into my head.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me as to how I can come up with new ideas?

What do you do to get out of your writer's block to keep writing?

been there.. I think the key is to follow each idea as far as you possible can.. then.. if the linkages between the different stories does not reveal themselves to you.. make a conscious choice to create the links from outside the creative process.

Step back, make some design decisions then dive back in. Don't judge it until it's done. You can always rewrite.. and rewrite.. and rewrite. Or you may just throw the whole thing out and start again.. but you'll be a more productive writer the next time around.

I learned with my own writing.. prose and music.. that Deadlines move me forward. When I had to turn in a script or something, I let the ideas build all the way up.. then at the last minute before it was due, I'd spit it out all and hand it in. I was able to get a lot of things done that way. Joining a writers group is also a good way to impose deadlines on your self..

but ultimately.. I think it's about consciously making choices. Add some randomness to your process.. take 2 pages from this story and 2 pages from that story and figure out how to link them into a single thing. You may be pleasantly surprised at how it turns out.

-good luck

Thanks I'll see about finding a writer's group.

get ready from some long-winded ego stroke-laden recitations.. if you can, make your own writer's group focused on the kind of writing you're interested in..

The group I attended, The Berkeley Writer's Group was hosted here.. http://www.meetup.com/ .. we met at coffee shops and book stores.. check it out.

Ahhh...okay thanks for the heads up. I'll check out meetup to see if there are any locally...I'm kind of intimidated when I share my works with others...It's hard for me to take criticism on something like photography or writings that I've done...When given ideas or suggestions, you know, artists or self-proclaimed artists don't like for anyone to tell them how to do their thing...So I'm really gonna have to be open-minded to all this.
