The first slave ship was named Jesus ??!!!

I didn't know ... till just now ... thot i'd share it.

I found the following information shared by THE HONORABLE ELIJAH MUHAMMAD on June 5th, 1956, in The Pittsburgh Courier:

He taught us that our fore-parents were deceived and brought into America by a slave trader whose name was John Hawkins in the year of 1555.

Just what happened to our fore-parents and we their children after landing here in the Western Hemisphere would make a dog weep and fight if her pups were treated in such manner as our forefathers and their children were treated.

OUR FIRST parents who were brought here, He said that, they were killed after giving birth to their first babies, to prevent them from teaching their children anything of self or of their God and people.

This act of murdering our forefathers by the slavemasters left their children to, be taught and reared in whatever pleased the slavemasters and we are from those children.

That made us blind, deaf, and dumb to the knowledge of, self or anyone else and it stands true today that, the American so-called Negroes don't know themselves or anyone else and the worst of all they don't know that they don't know themselves or others.

After our first parents landed here they saw that they had been deceived by this devil John Hawkins.

He brought them here on a ship named Jesus, this ship when on its way back for another load of our people, our fore-parents stared at the old slave ship as it departed and begged to be carried back, but to no avail and they said that "You can have this new Western world but give us the ship Jesus back to our people and country," which now has become a song among our people, which goes something like this, "YOU CAN HAVE ALL THE WORLD BUT GIVE ME JESUS.

Sir John Hawkins had the dubious distinction of becoming the first slave-ship captain to bring Africans to the Americas. Hawkins was a religious gentleman who insisted that his crew "serve God daily" and "love another". His ship, ironically called "the good ship Jesus," left the shores of his native England for Africa in October 1562. He arrived at Sierra Leone, and in a short time he had three hundred blacks in his possession. Hawkins claimed to have acquired them "partly by sword and partly by other means."[1]

Here's some additional information i found:

The image is one of this incongruously named slave ship, a ship called "Jesus" as the point of first contact between poeples of African descent and the English model of Christianity. The ship was the literal embodiment of the alliance between the rhetoric and symbolism of the Church and the economic and expansionist demands of the State.

On a personal level, the African captives who were taken into the Ship emerged totally transformed. The particular transition of the middle passage represented infinitely more than the physical distance involved. It represented the utter dislocation of those captives from all of the social and cultural mores of the societies in which they had been grounded. When they emerged, they emerged not only into a "New World" but their status in that world was utterly transformed.On a collective level, the event represented one of the major watersheds in the history of Black people. In 1564, the first of us were forced to embark on a voyage in a ship named "Jesus". Metaphorically, we have been sailing in her ever since. It has been a voyage during which we have encountered a full range of the traumas of transition. The ever shifting nature of our ongoing relationship with the ship itself, the Institutions of the Christian church, and the multiple effects which that relationship has had upon the lumbering progression of that ship out of colonial histories into the bedlam of the modern world, forms the central theme of this exhibition.

This is very true, good Digging (Archaeology) Destee! Makes you wonder why so many black folk love "Jesus"...

Your not making any sense. If a slave ship was named Aum would that mean you were responsible for enslaving people?
