ABC affiliate WTVD in Durham reports:

The remains of Jadon Higganbothan and Antoinetta McKoy were found behind by a plumber working in the backyard of a home in the 2600 block of Ashe Street earlier this month. Their bodies were buried plastic bags.
Four people – alleged cult leader 27-year-old Peter Moses Jr., Higganbothan’s mother 25-year-old Vania Sisk, 40-year-old Lavada Quinzetta Harris and 40-year-old Larhonda Renee Smith – were indicted on murder charges in connection with McKoy’s death.
Moses was also indicted on charges for Higganbothan’s murder. Harris, Sisk and Smith have been indicted on one charge of accessory after the fact in his death.
Three others – 56-year-old Sheilda Evelyn Harris, 21-year-old P. Leonard Moses and 20-year-old Sheila Falisha Moses – were indicted on charges of accessory after the fact in McKoy’s death. [...]
In addition to the murder charges, Moses faces charges that were filed in April. Those include one count of second-degree kidnapping, one count of assault by pointing a gun, one count of assault on a female, one count of communicating threats and failure to appear in court.
Peter Moses reportedly led a small polygamous cult affiliated with the Black Hebrews, a religious sect that believes a race war will culminate in blacks’ dominance.

    1. What are the top ten cults in the U.S.?

      http://www.christiananswers.net/q-aiia/aiia-top10cults.html

      1. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormonism).
A very subtle, spiritual deception started in 1830 by Joseph Smith. This aggressively evangelistic group contends that it is the only true Church, and that all Christians outside Mormonism are following a deficient Gospel and a false Christ.

    2. The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society (Jehovah's Witnesses).
Militantly anti-historic Christian tenets. This group began in the 1870s with Charles Taze Russell. They not only deny the essentials of the Christian faith, but the control exercised over the membership is highly destructive.

    3. The Church of Scientology.
A do-it-yourself salvation, science fiction group that masquerades as the true Church, lightly sprayed with a thin veneer of Christianity. Seeks to destroy through litigation and character assassination those who speak out against the group.
    4. The Twelve Tribes.
This group began in the early 1970s with Elbert Eugene Spriggs. They claim that salvation can only be found by giving all possessions to them and living in their community. All personal decision-making power is given over to the leadership.

    5. The Holy Spirit Association for the Unification of World Christianity (Unification Church).
Founded in 1954 by Sun Myung Moon, this highly authoritarian and destructive group teaches that Jesus failed on the cross. Moon is now the mediator between God and man.
    6. The International Churches of Christ (Boston Movement).
This highly evangelistic group which began in 1978 with Kip McKean embraces most of the main tenets of the historic Church. Teaches that it is the only true Church and is highly authoritarian, with immense control over members' lives.
    7. The Family (Children of God).
This communal group was founded by David “Moses” Berg. A strange mixture of basic Christian tenets and almost total sexual license. Very controlling and manipulative.
    8. Christian Identity Movement (Aryan Nations, Christian Identity Church, Klu Klux Klan, etc.).
A loose-knit confederation of various small groups that are militantly anti-government and conspiracy driven. Each group holds differing, deviant Christian tenets. All hold to Caucasians being the descendants of the ten “lost” Tribes of Israel, God's true people.
    9. The Nation of Islam (Black Muslims).
Began in 1930s by W. D. Fard. Group teaches that the black man is good, the white man is the devil, and that Jesus was merely a prophet. Highly controlling group.

    10. United Pentecostal Church (UPC).
A highly controlling, legalistic group that was formed in 1945. This group denies the Trinity and teaches that in order to be saved one must be baptized in the name of Jesus only.

'TEMPLE OF LOVE' BLACK SUPREMACIST CULT LEADER YAHWEH BEN YAHWEH DIES AT 71

    Tuesday, May 08, 2007
MIAMI — Yahweh Ben Yahweh, a preacher's kid from Oklahoma who grew up to lead a black supremacist group that terrorized South Florida in the 1980s — demanding that his followers kill "white devils" and return with a body part as proof of the kill — died quietly in his sleep Monday, his lawyers said. He was 71.

"Yahweh will be remembered and mourned by the millions of people that he touched through prayer and teachings," his lawyers, Jayne Weintraub and Steven Potolsky, said in a statement issued Tuesday.

Yahweh Ben Yahweh, born Hulon Mitchell Jr. in Oklahoma, also will be remembered for creating the Temple of Love, a cult enterprise housed in Liberty City bunker that marketed everything from Yahweh beer, soda and wine to hair-care products.

He used Temple of Love profits to amass a real estate and marketing empire that at one point was valued at more than $8.5 million, making Yahweh one of the most successful black businessman in Florida....

    ....
A few months later, a federal grand jury charged Yahweh and 15 disciples — members of a secret group of deadly enforcers known as "The Brotherhood" — with 14 murders, extortion and racketeering.
Federal prosecutors branded him the most notorious criminal in South Florida, charging he used the Temple of Love as a front for a cult that enslaved its followers, controlling what they ate, who they married, even when and how they had sex.
If anyone defied his authority, prosecutors charged, Yahweh would order "The Brotherhood" to administer justice, often in the form of murder and dismemberment.
Two residents who resisted the group's 1986 takeover of a drug-infested apartment complex were allegedly shot. Ex-members turned up dead, and a Delray Beach neighborhood was bombed after residents and Yahweh's followers butted heads during a recruiting effort there.
Yahweh, a self-proclaimed "Black Messiah," also faced allegations of sexual abuse involving girls in the cult as young as 10.
During his five-month trial in 1992, Yahweh dressed in white robes and a turban and often quoted the Bible. His sister and nephew testified that he ordered men, women and children to join in the beating death of sect member.
