Nine people were shot and two died of those wounds Saturday night and Sunday morning on the city's South and West sides, according to police.
A 23-year-old was killed about 1:40 a.m. in the 1300 block of South Springfield Avenue in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side, police said. The man, identified as Darryl Davidson of the 300 block of North Pine Avenue in Chicago by the Cook County medical examiner's office, was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound in the chest, police said.He was pronounced dead at 2:27 a.m. at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to the medical examiner.
A 19-year-old man was shot about 2:50 a.m. in the 1000 block of North Waller Avenue in the South Austin neighborhood, Chicago Police DepartmentNews Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said. He was pronounced dead at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County at 3:35 a.m., a spokeswoman for the Cook County medical examiner's office said. The spokeswoman identified him as Brandon Miles, of the Waller Avenue address where he was shot.
About 2:40 a.m., an 18-year-old man walked into Rush University Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his arm, police said. The man told police he was shot near 1800 W. 17th Street in the Heart of Chicago neighborhood on the Near Southwest Side.
Three women were shot about 10:25 p.m. Saturday in the 13200 block of South Vernon Street in the Golden Gate neighborhood on the Far South Side, police said. They were standing with a group of people at a party when a man who was denied entry came back with a gun and started shooting, police said.
A 19-year-old woman was shot in the ankle and taken to Roseland Hospital in good condition and a 21-year-old woman was shot in the leg and is in stable condition at Advocate Christ Medical Center, police said. The third woman, 36, was taken to Metro South Hospital in a private vehicle, police said.
A 25-year-old man was shot in the groin about 9:50 p.m. in the 6600 block of South Paulina Street in the West Englewood neighborhood, News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said. He's in good condition at Holy Cross Hospital, she said. He was driven to the hospital by a friend, police said.
At 9:16 p.m., a 16-year-old boy was shot in the face near 63rd and Carpenter streets in Englewood, according to authorities. He was standing on a porch when he heard shots and felt pain, police said. He's in serious condition at Stroger hospital, according to the Chicago Fire Department. Police said his condition has stabilized.
A man, 43, was shot in the arm about 8:20 p.m. in the 6400 block of South Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive in the Parkway Gardens neighborhood on the South Side, Greer said. He was riding his bike when he was shot, police said. Additional details about that shooting weren't available.
