Aquarius is the eleventh sign of the zodiac, which the Sun transits during the second month of winter, from about January 20th to about February 20th. The symbol for this sign is The Water Bearer; its polarity is positive; its element is air; its quality is fixed; its ruling planet is Uranus (its co-ruler is Saturn), and on the human anatomy Aquarius rules the ankles and the circulatory system...

In this sign the intellectuality of the element air and the persistence of fixity combine with the innovating force of the planet Uranus to create an individual who can be liberal, eccentric, and highly opinionated at the same time. The symbol for Aquarius is a human figure pouring water from a receptacle; yet Aquarius is an air sign. The water here does not represent emotion – it represents truth...

Aquarians – who include not only Sun-sign Aquarians, but all in whose horoscopes the sign is emphasized – are seekers and disseminators of truth. This is the same truth of which the Bible says, “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free...” (John 8:32)

Aquarians are dedicated to the realization of the ideal society, characterized by liberty, equality, and fraternity. Whereas lordly Leo (their polar opposite and complementary sign) believes in monarchy and the divine right of kings, altruistic Aquarius believes in democracy and the divine right of human beings...

Rulership of Aquarius was traditionally assigned to Saturn, a planet that is in accord with the sign’s rationality and interest in government and science. After its discovery in 1781, Uranus became the modern ruler of Aquarius, as this odd planet (it rotates on its sides!) was found to be appropriate to the unconventionality of this sign, and the Aquarian interest in social reform and progress...

Guided by reason rather than convention, Aquarians reject the prevailing norms. They reach into the future to discover the new technologies of tomorrow, and delve into the past to revive the simpler ways of yesterday. Either way, these independent thinkers seem slightly “out of sync” with their time. This sign can produce cranks, agitators and fanatics – “rebels without a cause” – or the greatest humanitarian leaders and inspired geniuses of the highest kind (e.g., Charles Darwin, Thomas Edison, Susan B. Anthony, Thomas Paine, and Wolfgang Mozart)...

All the air signs (Gemini and Libra are the other two) are concerned with relationships, but while Gemini is the sign of siblings and Libra the sign of husbands and wives, Aquarius is the sign of friends. Most Aquarians feel more at home in a group of people than in an intimate situation. Even young Aquarian children come to life in company, and delight in cutting into adult conversations with their own babbling comments! Parents are sometimes troubled by their Aquarian infants’ unpredictable eating and sleeping patterns, not to mention their frequent insurrections. Aquarian children have minds of their own and will not react well to an arbitrary show of authority. But their originality and ingenuity will make their parents proud...

Although Aquarius is the coldest sign in the zodiac, Aquarians are capable of love, but their version is somewhat impersonal. Much of their energy is likely to go into group activities, public life, or some kind of absorbing project of value to mankind, and their partners must give them the freedom they need to pursue their distant goals. Though seldom passionate, they are faithful and can be highly imaginative lovers, because Uranus rules the unconventional!...

Their most compatible signs are: Aries, Libra, Gemini and Sagittarius; Cancer, Capricorn, Virgo and Pisces are neutral; Taurus and Scorpio are likely to be difficult; with another Aquarian there is a good basis for friendship; and with Leo, their polar opposite, there will be both attraction and tension. But ultimately the question of compatibility can be answered only by careful comparison of the two horoscopes.

Aquarians like to work in groups, or, if alone, they must feel their work makes a contribution to mankind. The sign is associated with intellectual activity – especially writing, inventing, and science, also liberal politics and the arts, especially music. Because it is a group effort demanding technical skills, filmmaking would be an excellent career choice.

The colors of Aquarius are purple, violet, lavender and maroon; its birthstones are the pearl and amethyst; its day of the week is Saturday, which is ruled by its co-ruler, Saturn.

The following are some prominent African-Americans born under the sign Aquarius:

Hank Aaron, Marian Anderson, Anita Baker, Eubie Blake, Bobby Brown, Jim Brown, LeVar Burton, Natalie Cole, Angela Davis, Frederick Douglass, Roberta Flack, Arsenio Hall, Sherman Hemsley, Gregory Hines, Rick James, Michael Jordan, Alicia Keys, Bob Marley, Toni Morrison, Randy Moss, Billy Ocean, Hakeem Olajuwon, Rosa Parks, Leontyne Price, Anita Pointer, Smokey Robinson, Bill Russell, Lawrence Taylor, Glynn Turman, Alice Walker, Herb Williams, and Oprah Winfrey...

Aquarius is the sign of friends. One’s best friend is the spirit of God that dwells within. The kind of treatment this best friend receives depends upon one's physical and mental condition. Shakespeare’s splendid admonition – “Let this be above all things, to thine own self be true, and then it will follow as the night the day, thou cannot be false to any man.” – takes on added meaning when interpreted in this light. The statement that the sign Aquarius relates to friends refers – first and foremost – to the friend that dwells within...

Aquarians on the Internet...

Cyberspace became a reality in the electronic dawning of the Age of Aquarius. This is "home sweet home" to this sign, ruled by the forward-thinking planet, Uranus. Always avant garde, the mental energy of Aquarius leaped right into the World Wide Web right from the start. The Net allows the Aquarian to be an individual, as well as a unique part of cybersociety - all at the same time.

Since the Internet is still very frontier-like, Aquarians fell quite comfortable in this anti-authoritarian atmosphere. The Internet is also a very egalitarian place for any surfer, and this is important to Aquarius...we are all equal here.

Always looking for the unusual and something different, the Aquarian will be all over the Web, looking for the next new thing to come along - maybe even starting it!

Sites that look to the future and have a humanistic approach will sooth the Aquarian soul. Here are a few websites that are conducive to their progressive nature:
