The African donuts, which at first glance looked like hush puppies, were also a hit among attendees. Moba said each African country has a different name for the donuts. In her country, they are called mikate'.

Holding a half-bitten donut, 14-year-old Kenasie Powell said it tasted sweet, but "it's got a little spice to it."
