Peace and Blessings Family,
I was talking to a Brother recently, and he told me about how some folk have to pay a daily fee for being in jail ... i believe he said it was like almost $400+ a day! I don't know if i'm remembering that number right, but i think that's what he said.
Prior to that conversation, i did not even know that anyone going to jail, arrested, convicted, etc., had to pay for their stay in jail and/or prison. So after talking with him i did a little searching, and it seems a few places have started doing this.
The approved pay-to-stay policy charges prisoners $142.42 per day – more than local hotels.
I'd imagine that most folk having to go to jail / prison, don't have lots of money, for if they did ... there is a path of escape for those with money, already built into the justice system ... so they'd not generally be troubled by this additional piece ... leaving only the poor criminal to deal with this.
In the article linked above (or maybe a different one i read) ... some prisoners are being re-arrested, kept incarcerated, for these fees ... even after they've done their regular time.
I don't know ... i simply was not aware ... and am kinda confuzzled by it all.
How about you? What are your thots on this?
Did you already know it was happening? Do they do this in your city?
Looking forward to the discussion.
Much Love and Peace.
