Yes. And no, I don't have a TV. No cable bill. No BET. No no no. Entertainment is a very low priority in my house. My children don't know who Nicki Minaj is. And they will never find out from me. Maybe some friend will introduce them to her music, but I won't. They know who Miles Davis is though. They know who John Coltrane is.. And Wayne Shorter.. And Ralph Ellison.. Even Jimi Hendrix.. We all play piano and guitar.. And we all write creatively and are well read. My oldest son read Moby Dick at 9. I suppose he could have been playing playstation.. If we had one.. But since we don't, he plays Geometry instead.. And Basketball.. And Chess..
My father bought them a Wii for Christmas.. Which we don't celebrate.. They play at their grandparents house when they visit.. But they are not so into it. Too occupied with actual things to engage fully with fantasy.
So.. Do you have kids?
And let me tell you, it takes a lot of parental planning and execution to make this a reality. Conciously Creating and maintaining an environment is hard work.. You have to be fully committed.. And be willing to sacrifice your time and energy.
