Question?

Washington D.C. is the capital of America right? D.C. stands for District of Columbia. District means it's part of something else. So where is Columbia and/or what does it represent?

History says it's named that because the surrounding area around the nation capital was called "Columbia territory". But it goes much deeper than that.

Who knows the answer to this question.

HELP!

On September 9, 1791, the federal city was named in honor of George Washington, and the district was named the Territory of Columbia, Columbia being a poetic name for the United States in use at that time. Congress held its first session in Washington on November 17, 1800.

You are one of the deepest brothers here and you gave me the generic answer?

Columbia represents something more than just a "territory".
