Black People : Max Julien & Black Pimp Mentality

Most people who work managing prostitutes are men, but some women work in this capacity as well, though rarely in street prostitution. Women are rarely called pimps, as the word implies male dominance - a woman who manages prostitutes is generally called a mamasan or a madam. (This should not be confused with the title of respect given to adult women in most English-speaking countries.)

Donald Goines From 1952 to 1955 he served in the army. During this period he got hooked on heroin. When he returned to Detroit from Japan, he was a heroin addict.

The next 15 years from 1955 Goines spent pimping, robbing, stealing, bootlegging, and running numbers, or doing time. His seven prison sentences totaled 6,5 years. While in jail in the 1960s he first attempted to write Westerns without much success - he loved cowboy movies. A few years later, serving a different sentence at a different prison, he was introduced to the work of Iceberg Slim (Robert Beck). This time Goines wrote his semi-autobiographical novel Whoreson, which appeared in 1972. It was a story about the son of a prostitute who becomes a Detroit ghetto pimp. Also Beck's first book, Pimp: The Story of My Life (1967), was autobiographical. Goines was released in 1970, after which he wrote 16 novels with Holloway House, Iceberg Slim's publisher. Hoping to get rid of surroundings - he was back on smack - he moved with his family to the Los Angeles ghetto of Watts.

True this. White women in particular such as Heidi Fleiss and those who run "Cathouses".

In Hollywood many of these "Madams" are also known as "Stage Mom's" lol!

Why are men so quick to point out that women do bad things too. Does that make men feel vindicated? OK so a few women pimp. Now what? It's funny you had to go all the way back to Richard Pryor's grandmother and mother.... Don't forget Heidi Fliess too. I don't want y'all to leave any chick out.

Since I am the one who mentioned Heidi Fleiss I will answer your question. Because MOST Men model the behavior of the Women who raise them. I know that answer won't go over to well but as the saying goes the apple don't fall too far from the tree. The fruit cannot be separated from the seed.

Just think of the stereotypical image of the Black pimp and essentially you get a demasculated Black man styled as a cross-dresser or transexual in drag. From the hairstyle to the jewelry to the flamboyant clothing which often can be found in thrift stores and women's boutiques.

Sister Zulile...

I have been sitting here watching that thread form some time today trying to decide if I would respond to it... Some of you know I was brought up in this life. Not as a participant but an observer. Yes there are those that dressed and droved flashy cars as most of you have stated in your post above. But there is a flip side to this also. There was also those that pimped very well below the radar of the law. They were and are the most successful ones..for they didn't flash at all. They treated the game as a business and diversified they treated their ladies with respect and helped them invest their earnings so that they wouldn't have to stay in the game...some of the ladies even went on to college...we called them "Pimps with Hearts". Don't get me wrong by no means were these poor pimps...just businessmen.

Most have long sensed passed away..but just like their flashy counterparts, they handed down the wisdom they had accumulated over the years. The brothers that were able to grasp this information par-laid it into other aspects of business. One I know of is club owner in Chicago and Atlanta. Another is a investment counselor and I am sure there are more.

My point is don't let what you see in movies and on TV decide for you how these people are....If by chance you personally know of any, talk to them and ask them questions.... You might learn something.
