Scientists say pandemic is certain. Expert panel tells emergency managers it's just a matter of when the avian flu will spark a pandemic.

It was 1999 and the world was buzzing with talk of Y2K. Banks were unsure if their computers would crash at midnight on New Years Eve or if they would switch over like nothing happened. People were stockpiling emergency items with fear the world would go back to prehistoric times. Then at midnight on December 31, the world paused, and took a collective sigh of relief. There were few glitches and many people started laughing at everyone who said it was going to be a big deal -- at everyone who made emergency preparations for the event.

Now, scroll forward 10 years, and part of the world is once again preparing for a different kind of disaster -- a pandemic. A pandemic is a disease that spreads across a major geographical region including an entire country or countries.

Many scientists are now sure that a version of H5N1, or the avian flu, will cause a pandemic in the future. While speaking to health officials at the National Emergency Management Summit Thursday, several experts said the issue was no longer an "if" issue, it was now "when." Without knowing when a pandemic will hit, many hospitals and the government are doing what they can to try to prepare the U.S. for the event.

This began way back as a policy with Jimmy Carter when studies were made to determine a method for population control. Depopulation aka eugenics was to lower the birth rate and increase the death rate. Could very well be Sis Zee-Zee. But thing is, people are dying of this so-called "swine flu". Last night, probably because it has been on my mind, I had a dream that government officials were containing people who were flying into the UK from Mexico and USA and subjecting them to rigorous testing. There was one man in particular in the dream who raised serious concerns. Government issued that vaccines were to be given to the masses but the vaccines contained electronic implants. The dream seemed so real that immeditaely upon awakening I checked my left arm as it felt kinda sore... :qqb010:

reading the articles posted and the various links it is interesting how they included ILI (Influenza Like Illness) figures within their stats.. even pnumonia. We know the CDC Communication Strategy is to promote fear on the one side, and vaccines on the other, so when I hear of yet another type of flu 'on the market' my first thoughts are PR :D

The flu and it's various strains kill hundreds of thousands of ppl each year.. rated #5 cause of death in the USA @ 65,000. No cure for the common flu strains, so cant imagine they'll be one for the avaian/pig ones either. as usual, Wash your hands and steer clear of ppl's mucus.. :glasses:
