Everything had hit me like a ton of bricks. My grandmother is gone now and I am left with this box. This box that hold the key to me, the key to my past. I just can't get over that my grandma is gone. And to top it off my grandmother was a gangsta wife. Talking about the kettle being black. Who would have know. My grandmother wanted me to suceed. My uncle just gave me the history as I took a look at their past. Pictures with machine rifles and being with the so called "Black Mafia." My grandma had it going on she was foxy with her afro and grandaddy too. But look at my mother she look just like grandma. No wonder they couldn't get along she was her. I don't blame my mother for leaving me with her. I just wished she had been there for me growing up. While thumbing through grandmother old things I saw that the floor was a little uneven. So I moved her bed to see that it was out of place. The wood flooring didn't match up with the other pieces. I removed the pieces and found a box with a diary of some sort. I felt a gush of wind run past my face. I dismissed it because I felt maybe there was a draft in the room. Uncle had peeked his head in the door. (Uncle) Girl, if sista knew you was digging around in her room. She would get you. I can hear that lil woman making a lot of noise right now.
(sissy) I know somehow I knew she was right here. Uncle George can you tell me why would grandma have a hole in the floor. And what do you think this maybe. (Uncle) Chile, who you asking my sista was alot of secrets. I mean I ran with her because she was my sista. I made sure your grandmother was protected. I was her bodyguard her protector. Shoot, that Kevin Costner don't know nothing about real body guarding. Heck, I can guard some bodies now. Shoot, chile I had it going on. I protected all the ladies bodies. (and he gave me a wink) (sissy) uh-huh I bet you did Uncle. I hear Mr. Heard is going to get you the next time he see you running from the back porch again. He said he ain't no dummy his wife don't need no plumbing job done. He said ain't that much shhhhh stuck in his pipes. (they both started laughing) (Uncle) chile, your uncle be body guarding, I be stroking that's what I be doing. (uncle doing the tootsie roll lol) I be cleaning her pipes. I heard he asked her how come I never have no tools and why the toilet isn't fixed? Maybe cause I am the tool. But on a serious note your grandmother did everything she could to bring those kids up the right way. Now we can't help how we turnt out in our younger years, but as they got older. She decided that lifestyle had to go. Being a antique player isn't what's happening ya dig!. That box I haven't seen in awhile. That box contains secrets of your Skeeter. And your grandmother love to keep a diary of her life. I guess after Skeeter was killed there was nothing else to tell. Man, me and Skeeter had some fun back in the day. Just cutting up and just thugging. I mean str8 thugging. These thugs of today didn't have nothing on us. I mean we had to do what we had to do. We aren't proud of the life we choose what matters is what I am doing today. No matter what you see in this box or read you must understand this. The streets didn't give a d@mn about us. In the fifties and the sixties it was every man for themselves. I mean I had to see things and grow up fast. Drugs, sex and fast women, territory. We had to get respect. We didn't earn it, we took it no matter what it takes. I don't like talking about it because man don't give a d@mn about us. The civil rights what rights. When a man, I'm a man dammit had to come from the back. Sit in the back, fellowship on the colored side. Be thankful you didn't come up in those times chile. Be thankful me and your grandmother had change so you can have a better future. Your about to open Pandora box. Once you open you have a choice of doing what's right or pick up where the story began. It's your choice. I pray you make the right choice. (Sissy) dang, Unc you getting all serious on me. Talking about (in a deep voice) opening Pandora box. (she laughs). (Unc) well chile, I love to stay and chit-chat with you some mo. But your Unc got's to go I got's some plumbing work to be done across the streets. (Sissy) Unc don't tell me you messing with Mrs. Finley. Man, Unc you hell. (and they both laughed) (He exits the room) The smell of grandma is still in the air. Just smelling the pillows made me feel I was close to her. Maybe this box will put the puzzle together. To be continued...................
