View Full Version : Black Short Stories : A Collaborative Storytelling(JoinIn)
cocobutterskyn 11-03-2008, 12:56 PM whispering(I hope its ok to do this)
I thought it would be not only nice, but fun to collectively engage in a continuous story. We can each add our unique flavor of creativity, creating characters and different scenarios. I hope many will partake and help make this a wonderful storytelling experience. Feel free to take it in any direction. Lets get to writing, rather it’s a few lines or a paragraph or two wherever the last storyteller leaves off.
I’ll start it...
~~~~~~~~~~
Leafy trees and bushes were blown nearly bare by the brisk pre-winter wind. There were fewer places to shield ones whereabouts. A hunter’s fortune, but the misfortune of the hunted. Each foot that touched ground resonated through the woods like thunder does across the sky. The only thing that equaled in volume, was my heart pounding inside my chest. Dusk was on the horizon and even though I was terrified of the dark, I was more terrified of being caught, so I prayed for nightfall’s swift arrival.
I could feel the sharp edges of rocks and broken twigs piercing my body through my clothing. However. I didn’t dare move, not even an inch, because I knew if I was able to hear them, they could hear me as well. So I laid still underneath the damp leaves and fallen tree branches used to hide me. As daylight faded away, so did their thunderous footsteps.
Once darkness ruled the frightening sounds of nocturnal creatures terrified me in their absence. The cold chill had reached down to my bones and numbness had claimed my limbs. I managed to rub my hands together to create warmth from friction, once they were warm I used them to massage my arms and legs until I felt life in them again. I then stood up and brushed the debris that found a home on my body. I knew now was the time to make my move.
watzinaname 11-04-2008, 06:19 PM Sure it's ok to do this. I started a light hearted collaborative story months ago, I ended it as well, lol, but it was so much fun. I couldn't wait to see the direction in which the next installment would take. Now this tale that you started coco, is so creatively mysterious, who knows where the many twists and turns may lead...
***
It's moments like these where every step you take, seems to echo the gait of a thousand feet. I figure, I'll try to make my way back to the main road, and that God will steer some good Samaritan's heart my way. Brrrrrrr, it's so difficult not to think of my cold numb fingers and toes as I cautiously try to retrace my steps.
Can't help but think to myself, that they have the wrong woman. Sure, I know who has those precious black diamonds, but I'm not the one who stashed them away, and I will not divulge who did. Thank the Lord, I think I can see the road from here....
Suddenly the sound of footsteps draws closer and closer. I run as fast as I can but I am weakened from the earlier pummeling from my captors. Suddenly my feet are knocked from under me, and my face hits the ground with a thud. I can taste blood, as my stunned vision fades to black.
epiphany 11-06-2008, 04:54 PM Ok, ok Coco...I'm gonna try my pen at this collaborative story- telling thing.....
~~~~
A sudden jolt awakened me to the loud crack of thunder and water dripping on the side of my face. The storm cast an ominous eeriness to the predicament I found myself in and I trembled in fear. My vision delayed as the darkness slowly enveloped me. The only light slipped through the cracks of what appeared to be the trunk of a car. I tried to move my head, it felt like it was in the grip of a steel vice and my hands and feet were bound together. I licked my cracked lips and the taste of dry blood sicken me, I tried to hold back the urge to regurgitate, but it was no use, I turned my head as the contents of my empty stomach spilled forth in a puddle.
The voice of two men resonated in the background as I strained my ears to hear the conversation over the loud noise of the storm.
I heard one man say:
"The boss told us to bring her in alive, he believes she knows more than she is letting on."
Then the second man replied.
"I'm not so sure, we worked her over pretty good and she said nothing."
Unable to make out anymore of the conversation, the rumble of an eighteen wheeler shook the car as it sped by, drowning out the rest of their verbal exchange.
My stomach ached from hunger, it had been almost twenty four hours since I had eaten and my body was tired and weak. I fought to maintain consciousness, my mind racing with thoughts of uncertainty and my own mortality exasperated my fear of what fate these strange men had in store for me.

Why didn’t they blindfold me? Do they plan to kill me? What am I going to do? As thoughts of my survival twirled in my head, I heard one of the men speak,
“There’s a gas station five miles up, off of exit 501.”
Maybe someone at the gas station would call the police if they heard me kicking and screaming from the trunk of the car. But, if the area is secluded, they might kill me on the spot to shut me up. No, I’ll wait until they take me to their Boss and perhaps I can talk my way out of this. After all, I am a senior investigative reporter and my fiance is a top cop at the southside precinct. I’m sure I can work this to my advantage.
The car came to a stop and I heard both doors open and shut. The sound of footsteps stopped and then I heard a click and the trunk popped open. A rush of light flooded the trunk and momentarily blinded me. Once my pupils adjusted the faces of my captors were visible. One of the men cut the duck tape from around my legs and the other pulled me from the trunk by my bound wrists.
“Stand up!” One of them ordered.
I couldn’t if I wanted to, my legs were the equivalent of cooked noodles and my body was at the peak of weakness from lack of food and water and the beaten it had taken.
“The Boss is waiting, just throw the b***h over your shoulder, so we can get this over with. I got tickets to the game tonight.”
When he threw me over his shoulder I felt a bulge underneath his jacket. With the tidbit of strength left in me I made my body bounce to his slight trotting like walk and used my bound hands to gently ease up his jacket. It was a gun in a holster attached to his belt. Without a doubt I know I'm dead once they have no more use for me. At this point getting hold of that gun was the only thing I could do and perhaps the last opportunity to save my life.

Harry Hyman 11-07-2008, 03:38 PM The other guy must have read my mind or saw my fingers inching for that gun. Because, the next thing I felt was a hit to the head and then darkness. I awoke to blurred vision. It looked like a large room. No! It wasn’t a room at all. It was a large basement of some kind with ascending stairs. Things started clearing up. I was still hungry and weak and my hands were no longer tied. And then I heard it………!
I heard it before I felt it, a low whistling sound it was like knives slicing air swiftly. Gut reaction and reflexes made me move without thinking to avoid it. Still, knifelike claws fiercely scraped against my ribcage and liquid started running. I began leaping up the basement stairs.
Something savage in the dark was at my heels. I couldn’t risk looking for fear it would slow me down. Pure terror clutched my heart now pumping at breakneck speed.
I jumped two and three steps at a time. The foul stench of its breath singed the hairs on the back of my neck. I could feel the adrenaline being pumped at almost terminal velocity thru my veins. Bloody liquid was running down my leg. I didn’t care. I could see it, the door at the top of the stairs – only 7 steps to go. Claws screeched against a wall and startled my ears – only 5 steps to go. Something grabbed at my ankles. It missed – only 3 steps to go.
I lunged for the doorknob, turned, opened and closed it all in one motion. With my back riveted against the door, I gasped for breath. The Terror behind me pounded and pounded, snarling in frustration. Each pounding lifted me off the door. Pieces of wood flew to the floor. Ejected like bullets were door hinge screws. Wood began crumbling. It was coming through !
Then unexpectedly, it stopped ! Frighteningly, it stopped !
It stopped with an abruptness that left me shivering, sweating and waiting in the silence. The breath slowly returned to my drenched body and I could hear a low whistling sound like knives slicing air, fading and melting into a descending darkness. I had escaped. I breathed easier. I smiled satisfied thinking the worst was over.
Then…Boom!…the floor caved in ! Wood splintered. Beams shattered. Metal twisted. One hand grabbed the doorknob and held on. My legs dangled above the emptiness. The sweat made my hand slip. I plunged screaming into the nothingness beneath. I hit the floor with the impact of a bomb going off. Pain shot up my arm. Wood scraped across my back. I was in the basement again ! Then I heard it. Oh God! The breathing. The breath. Those knifeclaws whistling nearer! And nearer! And nearer!
And I remembered something ! What a time to remember something. I remembered chuckling hearing kids scare other kids by saying “Beware of the monster in your basement.” I don’t think I’ll get a chance to forget it or chuckle again ! Ever ! Something was coming with thudding footsteps and whistling claws. Then it stopped growling and I could feel its breath.
And from the other side of the darkness, I heard a soft microphoned voice say “Lie to me and you will be ripped apart, limb by limb by limb. No second chances. I’m the Boss. Now tell me who has the diamonds.”

$$RICH$$ 11-08-2008, 02:31 AM Deeply afraid , as i stare into his eyez tears rip my face , sir i do not know where the diamonds are .Watching behind me i saw his goons stiring about loudly he said: take her down to the room and lock her in she will talk , we have some other bussiness to deal with and at that moment i saw a cell phone right beside me , in my mind how do i get it if i'm caught they might kill me . I know somebody looking for me by now i did tell David.

as they was taking me away one of them seem nice kinda he smile and gave me a blanket, sir if i gave you a thousand dollars would you let me go free i honestly don't have any diamonds, sharply he turn and said: shut up woman before i do you right now.It took my breath way how do i get out this mess and room from captivity thinking as i start soul searching for hope , my body still numb i could hear them talking but wasn't able to make out what they saying .
After another day has past i was awaken by one of them as he enter the room, it frighten me and i jumped up half shaking he grasp me and put his filty hands over my mouth, he whispered that offer you made yesterday if you pay me now i would let you go but if i'm caught i'm dead !
Quick thinking if you let me make a call i can asure you i'll have your money just let me use the phone. Saying to myself if i call David will he get help or catch on but if i call the police he might catch on , but i don't know where i am they brought me through a cave to this room it was too dark to really see . I heard one of them say; if she don't lead us to them diamonds then we have to get rid of her , the other voice said no!
she is our only clue to the diamonds beside Boss will kill us if something went wrong .
I knew then my life have a chance they think i know and i am some value to them as i look into the third man face help me please!
baller 11-08-2008, 03:21 PM Soon after, food was brought to me…by an aging gentleman…whom I took to be the cook. When I tried to talk to him, he gestured for me to keep silent. But I couldn’t keep silent. My body was aching. There was some kinda monster in the basement. And these people were talking about killing me. How was I supposed to just KEEP SILENT?
After he left, the smell of food drew me to the tray. Obviously, whomever my captives were, they were very well off. This place setting was exquisite…very expensive…in an old England taste of royalty. When I raised the lid, covering the entrée, I discovered a cell phone.
“Is the old man trying to help me…or, set me up,” I wondered.
I didn’t know what to do. Whatever I did, I needed to do it before the boss finished with his business, and decided to feed me to that monster downstairs.
Instead of calling my boyfriend, directly, I decided to call his boss, the captain. There were times when my boyfriend had his phone off, when in the middle of duty-related matters…that couldn’t be disturbed. The captain and I had become friends, over the years—once I let him know, in no uncertain terms, that he and I would never be getting together—and he always looked out for me…making sure that, whenever my boyfriend was on assignment, I could still get in touch with him. He had given me his personal cell number…where he could always be reached…in just such a case.
“Well, this is definitely not the time for not getting through…so, here goes.”
Being set up was a chance I was willing to take…otherwise, I could end up dead. So, I made the call. I explained the situation to the captain but told him I didn’t know where they were holding me.
“I can triangulate your position using the cell phone’s signal. Don’t worry…I’m on my way.”
Thirty minutes later, the captain opened the door to the room I was in.
“Thank God!”
I was about to rush over to him…when the boss and the others walked into the room, as well. It was all too apparent that the captain was involved in this whole thing.
“Why couldn’t you just tell them about the diamonds, babygurl?”
$$RICH$$ 11-08-2008, 05:45 PM O'my god ; not you too as i broke down in tears as i fear for my life
The Boss softly said my dear if you tell me where my diamonds are i'm going to rip your tongue out i want my diamonds as he bang on the wall i was so scare'd , i covered my face with my handz and made a vow to save myself even if i have to do the unthinkable .
If you can find this woman name Jackie then you might find your diamonds this all i know sir. But the captian wasn't buying her story .
cocobutterskyn 11-08-2008, 07:28 PM “Cherry”
Captain Persons called my name with a hint of concern in his voice, he walked over to me and place his hands on my shoulders. Disgusted by his betrayal I shoved them off and walked away from him to the other side of the room. As I stared out the huge picture window, I heard the Captain asked the others to leave him alone with me. From the window’s view I could tell I was at least two stories up and from each direction I could see, there weren‘t any other houses nearby.
The door closed and for a brief moment silence took center stage in the room.
With tears in my eyes I asked, “Why Robert?”
I turned to look him directly in his eyes. I needed to see if he could lie to my face. If not, maybe, just maybe he still had some decency in him.
“Cherry, You wouldn't understand.”
“This is what I don’t understand, Robert. Look at me! Do you see what these ANIMALS did to me? Did you know, were you in on that too!?!
“Cherry, I wasn’t apart of the decision to physically harm you, but I had to give them personal information about you. I owe The Boss money, lots of it. Too much to refuse him ANY FAVORS! If I even hesitate to do what he ask, I’m dead.”
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. He got himself caught up in some mess with these criminals and like a selfish bastard he throws me to the wolves to save his own neck. The anger brewing in me seemed to energize my body. I walked over to him and slapped his face,
“I’m going to make you pay for this Robert, if it’s the last thing on earth I do, I promise you.”
He grabbed me by my wrist and twisted my arm behind my back, and then pulled me to his body. I could feel the heat of his breath on my face.
“The Great Investigative Reporter, Cherry Washington. Who do you think you are? I watched you with Detective David Cobbs for years, hugged up on him like some paid escort. You knew I wanted you, but you kept flaunting your relationship in my face. Don’t you threaten me, I’m the only reason you’re still alive. Because I love you, but that can all change if you don’t tell me all you know about this Jackie person?”

They slam the door i heard someone locking it , wondering how can i get out and when they find Jackie what will happen this chick is a killer too and she have some powerful people behind her what have i done.?
epiphany 11-11-2008, 05:12 AM To stay alive, I had to keep telling them half truths, I couldn't tell them Jackie was my best friend, then they surely would believe I had something to do with taking the black diamonds.
I had to play it smart I would deal with Jackie when the time came, I owe her that much for her deceit.
The dampness of the room created a moldy aroma, I sat in the corner in the darkness for what seemed like hours. My hands and feet were numb for lack of free circulation from the duck tape and my mind raced with thoughts of how I got involved in this predicament that I found myself in. It all began when I came into work two days ago. It was Monday morning at Kappel's Diamond Exchange. I was sent over there by my editor to investigate the smuggling of blood diamonds. I had gotten a call from an anonymous source that the company was importing blood diamonds and rare black diamonds from Sierra Leone, a country in West Africa.
I called Jackie, who was also a reporter and my best friend to accompany me. It was a story of a lifetime and we both promised each other if we ever got a golden story we would do it together. I knew if we could break this story wide open both she and I would finally get the recognition we deserve and possibly the anchor's chair at CNN. Jackie had always been overly ambitious. I sometimes questioned her tactics and the underhanded methods she used to retrieve her stories but she was my best friend and I accepted her as is.
We both went in undercover as two women interested in investing in high priced diamonds for a jewelry store we were opening.
We agreed to use the alias of Cassie Cartwright and Erica Richards. Having the necessary credentials provided by my editor it was easy to convince the owner of our authenticity and he took us to the vault to show us his collection. He took out a key from his pocket and unlocked several drawers that were embedded in the wall, sliding out the drawers Jackie and I gasp together, the beauty of the diamonds were amazing. I picked up the diamonds and rolled them in my hands admiring the sparkle and shine that illuminated from the jewels.
"Are these all the diamonds you possess, money is not an issue. I and my partner, we're looking for something unique." I asked. I Looked at Jackie over his shoulder as she eyed the diamonds in my hand.
The little man, peered into my eyes as if he was determining his trust in me.
"I don't know, Miss....." He hesitated as he waited for me to say my name.
"Miss Cassie Cartwright....."
"We have many jewels, diamonds, emeralds..whatever your flavor. What did you have in mind?"
"Diamonds.....perhaps black diamonds." I said reluctantly.
"I may be able to accommodate you, Miss Cartwright, but I have to consult with my associates on this matter.
Can I get back with you in a day or two?"
"I'm sorry Sir, I don't have a day or two. I'm prepared to offer you thirty million dollars to begin with.
The little man's eyes bulged in excitement.
"Thirty million dollars?" He repeated. I could see the greed in his beady eyes as his mind contemplated my offer.
"Yes....hmmmm, can you excuse me please. I have to make a phone call."
Cherry watched as the little man locked the drawers and left the room, then she faced Jackie.
"Thirty million dollars! Where do you intend to get that kind of money?" Jackie asked.
"I didn't think about that. I'm going to go call Jonesy, he may be able to pull some strings. I'll be back."
A few moments later the little man returned.
"Where is Miss Cartwright?"
"Oh, she'll be back."
"Well, everything is a go?"
"Good, now where is the black diamonds?" Jackie reached in her purse and pulled out a nine millimeter, pointing it to the little man's head.
"Please...don't shoot me."
"If you want to live, you'll get those diamonds....NOW!' She yelled.
Trembling the little man went to the far end of the vault and pushed a hidden button that open a smaller vault behind the wall.
"Give me the key and get down on the floor!"
The little man quickly dropped to the floor and watched as Jackie pulled a velvet pouch from her purse, unlocked the vault and began placing the precious black diamonds in the pouch.
"Please, they'll kill me. Don't do this."
"SHUT UP!" She shouted pointing the gun at the trembling man on the floor.
When Jackie finished collecting the diamonds, she took out a cloth and began wiping all the evidence off everything she touched. then she turned toward the little man on the floor.
He looked into her eyes and saw a coldness creep over her expression.
"Please, you said you wouldn't kill me if I gave you the diamonds."
"I lied."
Jackie let out a sinister laugh, pointed the gun, shot the little man in the head and made her escape out the back of the building.
Cherry rushed back into the Diamond exchange elated that Jonesy came through for her.
As she walked into the vault she gasped at what she saw. She called out for Jackie but she was no where to be found. She checked the little man's pulse....he was already dead.

Tee, hee, hee..Sorry Coco, I know its a lot, I got a little carried away:qqb006:
cocobutterskyn 11-11-2008, 06:23 PM ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Detective Cobbs sat at his desk sifting though the evidence pertaining to the new case he was assigned. There were a few reports that baffled him. He wondered how a man deceased for years could own and run a lucrative jewelry establishment for the past five years and then end up on a slab in a refrigerator at the county morgue?
“Who shot you Mr. Wiltsie and why?” He asked, as he looked at the crime scene photo of the victim.
He knew the answers to his questions wouldn’t be delivered so easily. He also knew this case wasn’t any ole run of the mill robbery. His thoughts were, there’s an ocean out there and Mr. Wiltsie was only one of the many little fishes in it.
“There’s a big fish out there, a killer shark and I’m going to catch it.”
As he stood up to put the files back in the file cabinet, his fiancé Cherry, ran across his mind. He realized his engulfment with the case had caused him to not notice she hadn’t checked in. Even though he knew she was on a special assignment he became worried, because she never went two days without calling.
When he entered her condo his heart almost stopped beating, the entire place was in a shambles. What he saw alarmed him terribly. The drawers in the bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchen were pulled out and all the contents dumped on the floor. The furniture was destroyed, the sofa, loveseat and oversize chair were cut to shreds, including the mattresses. But what alarmed him most, was the sight of the purse she always carried, lying on a heap of clothes that his been pulled down and out of the walk-in closet. The contents of it had been dumped out as well. Things he knew she would never leave the house without, her pepper-spray, cell phone and most of all, her keys laid scattered on top of the clothes.
Being on the police force for over fifteen years Detective Cobbs knew he should follow proper protocol, but not only did the Detective in him cause him to deviate, it was also the love he had for Cherry that did so too. He needed to collect whatever evidence he could to lead him to her whereabouts, before forensics and other investigators rush in and destroy the crime scene.
The back entrance door was busted and ajar. The flowerbed in the backyard was also a shambles, pieces of broken ceramic flowerpots, flowers and soil littered the wooden patio and paved walkway. It was apparent there was a struggle of some kind. He walked a ways down the walkway and noticed something reflecting the sun’s rays from a small space between the grassy area and walkway. It was Cherry’s gold and diamond cross pendant he had bought her last Christmas, the clasp had been broken. As he continued to walk towards the end of the walkway he could see a reddish like substance on the ground and the cast-iron gate. Though his gut told him it was blood, he hoped to the bottom of his soul, it wasn’t.

Astrologer4U 11-11-2008, 10:54 PM This seems so fun, I am happy to join in. By the way, you guys are doing a great job. One suggestion though, maybe some of us want to get out a pen and paper to take down notes of the previous persons addition to the story. It will help us to keep up on the tenses, first second and third person storytelling and we can keep the names of the characters, streets and city's right, plus some other good things we can make use of in this story from the keeping of the notes. Moving right along...
Detective Cobbs pulled out a pair of rubber gloves from the inside pocket of his black lamb skin leather jacket. He kneeled down in the walkway near the grass to retreive the gold and diamond cross pendant he had given to Cherry the night of their one year anniversary. As he was kneeled, with the necklace dangling so delicatly between his finger tips, he had thoughts about how the necklace was going to be one of the many series of gifts down the line, until the day he was going to give her a ring. One year later, just two weeks ago he asked her to marry him and her answer was yes, that is when he placed the ring on her finger. He had no idea that soon after, he would actually have to go and find her before the day of the wedding. He snapped out of it "What am I doing, I got to hurry up and find out where she is." With his left hand, he pulled from the pocket of his grey slacks a plastic baggy and placed the necklace inside. He then took out what detectives call a quick specimen kit and he used it to scrape up specimens of the blood. Quickly he got into his black 325I BMW, took out his portable siren and placed it on top of his hood, he sped off down the road, it began to rain.
baller 11-16-2008, 01:05 PM He recklessly sliced through the crowded, rain-drenched, streets…oblivious to the other drivers. He needed to get to the lab…to have the specimen checked. He had a friend at the lab…so he bypassed standard operating procedures, and had him meet him at the lab. This was not the time for red tape. He needed to know if the specimen was blood…as he assumed. If it was, was it human blood? And, given that, was it blood from a female?
After dropping the sample off—he knew it wouldn’t take long for it to be analyzed but his adrenaline was pumping too fast to sit around, waiting—he needed to get to other things…and waiting for an answer that he already knew, wouldn’t help. Asking his friend to call him when the results were in, he was off.
To where? Where could she be? Was she still alive? Who could have done this…and why would anyone want to hurt her?
So many questions raced through his mind…as he tried to piece the puzzle together, while trying to control his emotions…to maintain his professional objectivity. But this was his fiancé…and he needed to find her.
First, he called his partner, and informed him of the situation.
“I’ll take care of it,” his partner—who is to be the best man during the wedding—informed him. “Just find her”
His partner went to the crime scene and reported the crime as if he had made the discovery. After everyone arrived, he made sure they understood who they were dealing with—the fiancé of one of their own—and he was off to find his partner.
Knowing his partner would take care of his end, Detective Cobb made his way back to his office. He needed to contact Cherry’s boss…to find out if she was working on anything special…anything dangerous. And, knowing her friendship with his boss, he wanted to inform him of the situation in person. That way, if he was inclined to remove him from the case, he could convince him otherwise.
Astrologer4U 11-16-2008, 02:39 PM Detective Cobbs recieved a call from the lab, "I need you to get down here right away" the labsman said. "I don't have the time to come to you, just give me the results now, over the phone" Detective Cobbs eagerly responded. "Are you sure?" The labsman asked. "Yes, yes, now just give it to me." "Luckily, the results of the blood speciman is not Cherry's. I ran the blood through the criminal based DNA matchup and the blood comes from a man name "Richard LeBlanc." Richard Leblanc... Detective Cobbs quietly thought.
"Cobbs, you still there?"
"Yeah, I'm still here, I was just thinkin."
"Thinking about what?"
"Ah, never mind, you have anything else?"
"Yeah, and the necklace only contained fibers of hair, belonging to a female, there isn't any hair samples from Cherry in the data base, if you can get me some of Cherry's hair, maybe from a hairbrush, I could do a match to see if it is from the same person. Other than that, I show no match for the hair fibers in my database"
"Yeah, Yeah, I'll get back to you, ahh, thanks" and he close the flip only to reopen it and to make another phone call which was to his partner and best man. "Hudson speaking" his partner said when he asnwered the phone. "Hudson, this is Cobbs, do you remember a case involving a man named Richard Leblanc?" "That name sounds familiar but I can't recall the specific case right this minute, why, does he have something to do with Cherry missing?" "I'm not sure but the blood I found at the seen belonged to him." "The blood belonged to Richard Leblanc?" something triggered in Hudsons memory when Cobbs told him the blood belonged to a man with the last name Leblanc, the tone in his voice had changed. "What's up Hudson, you know something?"
Hudson did recall, in fact he recalled very well. He just didn't want to tell his partner that Richard Leblanc was aressted for the rape of a woman about seven years back before Cobbs had even become a detective. Richard was never convicted because he was able to get a high priced lawyer who got him off. No one understood where the funds for Richards lawyer came from because Richard was raised by his mother who was a not so rich woman and no one knew who Richards father was. Any way, Richard got off and has been reeking havik in in the streets, petty crime upon petty crime which to this day, he still manages to get away with. How does a poor common street thug manage to go without punishment unless someone else is covering him, someone who has connections, Hudson thought.
"Hudson, you still there?"
"Ah yeah Cobbs, I'm still here. Ah, tell you what, let me take things from here, I got your back, I am going to get on the case right this minute and take care of everything, don't worry, we will find Cherry."
"Hudson, is there something your not telling me?"
"No, not at all, it's just that I can't recall anything right this minute but I know how to go about finding out what I can't recall and when I do, I will get back to you, I promise. Now what I need you to do is, Meet me at the 24 hour donut shop at around 8:30pm tonight, I should have something then okay?"
"Okay, meet you at the Donut shop at 8:30pm, see you then." He closed the flip of his phone.
Hudson couldn't tell his partner what he knew, it would crush him. He wanted to meet with Cobbs later after he could take some time to get evidence that Cherry was still alive before he told Cobbs that Cherry might have been kidnapped by a rapist. It didn't matter because although Cobbs was a rooky detective, he watched enough "Law In Order Special Victims Unit" Episodes, to know that when your partner tells you he can't recall something, it usually means that he does not want to give up the bad news. He couldn't sit around waiting, he had to make an effort to do all that his resources allowed him to do without the help of Hudson, after all, Cherry was his woman and he was her man. He felt that a man was supposed to protect his woman, not sit around and wait to meet his partner at a 24hour donut shop.

With Jackie nowhere to be found and Bernard Wiltsie shot dead in cold blood, I called my editor. I informed him of the major development in the special investigation, explaining I needed to see him directly after making a pit stop at my condo to change my clothes and get rid of this awful make-up and wig. However the two men waiting in my bedroom when I arrived had other plans for me. At first with politeness, they kept asking questions about the stolen black diamonds and I continued to pretend I knew nothing. However, they grow tired of being polite and allowed their fists to do the asking. One of the men stood back staring at me with a seedy-lustful look in his eyes. I could sense he wanted to do more with his hands than use them to beat on me.
As I was imprisoned in the bedside chair with my hands and legs bound with duck tape, they ransacked the condo from top to bottom. I could hear things crashing to the floor and then, the sudden ringing of the telephone momentarily stilled their movement. They raced to the bedroom and with their eyes glued on the answering machine and their ears listening to the greeting,
“Can’t pick up right now, you know what to do after the beep.” Attentively, they waited for the caller’s voice to stream through.
“Cherry, where are you?” I could hear the voice of my editor, Todd Gaskins, “You should’ve been here by now. What’s going on? Call me as soon as you receive this message.”
Both men turned in my direction at the same time, the smaller seedy-looking one walked over to me, using his cold callous hand he stroked my face, all awhile enjoying the frightened look in my eyes and then, insinuatingly uttered,
“Miss Washington, it seems you haven’t been honest with us. Who is the man on the machine?”
I moved my face from his hand and then, shouted! “My editor and he knows the same as I, NOTHING!
The six foot, dark skin, mean-looking man with broad shoulders almost busting through his suit jacket, took my purse and dumped the contents on the scattered clothes on the floor. As he picked up my cell phone he ordered me to call my editor and tell him something had come up and I would meet with him tomorrow.
I refused to do it until I could no longer endure the beating given me. They waited until nightfall, unbound my legs and then, with my hands still bound they led me out the back entrance and down the walkway. I didn’t know if I was going to get out of this ordeal alive, but from the conversations between David and I about his work, how important forensic evidence is to solving a case. I had to do something to leave such evidence behind. As one of them held me by the upper part of my arm, I abruptly yanked from his grip, using my legs and bound hands I knocked over ceramic flowerpots. I then dropped to my knees and before they could gain control of me again, I slipped a broken piece of flowerpot into my hands. After stabilizing my gait, I quickly turned and with a swift swing of my bound hands I slice the seedy-looking man across the cheek. As I watched blood pour from his gash, splatter onto the gate and ground, I could see a shiny object from my peripheral vision and then, I felt a hard blow to my head.

After a brief period of silence the man stooped down to help me to my feet.
“Keep quiet and listen.” He whispered.
My eyes focused on his face, he wasn’t either of the men I had seen before.
“What are you going to do to me?”
“Just listen.” He snapped.
Although his tone became firm as he continued to speak, I noticed his lips were barely moving.
“I’m an undercover agent. Don’t do anything to jeopardize your life or this government investigation. Just sit tight and go along, I’ll get us both out of here alive... and soon.”
He helped me up and over to a chair. Just as I sat, the same two thugs reentered the room. Surprised I was not alone, they aggressively questioned the undercover agent for the reason he was there and why he was talking to me? He successfully eased their suspicions, explaining he had hit me in the head with the door when he came in to retrieve the tray of food.
“I simply helped the lady to her feet and asked if she was ok.”
His words alone wasn’t what convinced them, it was the knot that swelled on my forehead that collaborated his story.
They ordered him to get out, but not before offering me the food I left untouched on the plate that was now cold. With my stomach rumbling and my body near shaking from the lack of nourishment, the fear in my eyes spoke to the undercover agent. He walked over to me
“If you‘re worried about the food being safe to eat, it is. I prepared it myself.”
“How could I trust him?” I thought.
Their “Boss” could have planted him here to hoax me into telling him something I wouldn’t tell them. He looked me in the eyes and took a fork full of the food, ate it and then, drank from the glass of water. He held the plate out to me, I snatched a piece of chicken and with my teeth I ripped into it like a wild animal and then grabbed the glass of water drinking it forcefully. Most of it spilled down my face and onto my clothing.
The two thugs released a roaring laugh ensued by their enjoyment of my suffering. I noticed the expression of annoyance on the undercover agent’s face as he listened to their laughter, before he joined in to divert any suspicion. It was at that moment I sensed his sincerity and a seed of hope began to grow in me.

Meanwhile, Hudson was on his third cup of coffee by the time his partner arrived at the 24 Hour Donut Shop. He was thankful Cobbs was late, because it gave him time to mull over how to break the news LeBlanc was involved in his fiancé’s disappearance.
“Sir, can I get you anything, some coffee or tea?” A waitress offered.
“No thanks” Cobbs replied without even looking in her direction, “What you got Hudson, give it to me straight, all of it?”
Hudson observed his partner’s demeanor and knew, now wasn’t the time to suggest he cool down, so he laid it all out. Cobbs was quiet and still, suddenly he became enraged, slammed his fists on the table and swore he was going to take down everyone involved.
