Report: Bernie Mac is dead at 50

The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that comedian Bernie Mac died early Saturday morning, citing a close friend of the funnyman's family.
Mac, 50, was being treated at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago for pneumonia. His publicist had repeatedly denied he was dying.
Sun-Times columnist Stella Foster said she received a call from a family friend an hour after the "Ocean's Eleven" star was pronounced dead.
"It brought tears to my eyes because Bernie Mac has always been my all-time favorite entertainer and comedian. It pains me to have to report that," Foster said.
Last weekend, several Web sites erroneously reported the comedian's death, and the Sun-Times report could not be immediately confirmed.

Bernie Mac's health is no laughing matter. According to Eonline.com, the Chicago comedian and star of “The Bernie Mac Show” has been living with the rare disease of Sarcoidosis since 1983. Although the disease, which causes inflammation of the body's tissues (most frequently in the lungs), isn't usually life threatening; Mac was hospitalized after taping the “Ocean's Eleven” sequel, which starred Don Cheadle, George Clooney, Matt Damon, Andy Garcia, Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts. The site reports that Mac had double pneumonia, which weakened his lungs and his entire immune system, and the Sarcoidosis symptoms became pronounced.
