When a person asks a question should that person be the one to answer questions about the information they are inquiring about?
Each1teach1 05-27-2008, 03:11 PM I dont know about Obama being a house Negro. But I definitely think questions should be asked, let them be answered by Obama's actions if and when he becomes president...we gotta give the man a chance and judge him by his actions. As a black person being in the state of mind that I am in, I believe that any black person with power in his or her hands should always use that power to first serve the masses of the underclass begining with blacks. Correct me if im wrong, I believe that Garvey said "Charity begins at home and then abroad."
SPEAKFREEDOMnet 05-27-2008, 08:43 PM Castro criticizes Obama plan to keep US embargo
HAVANA - Former President Fidel Castro says Sen. Barack Obama's plan to maintain Washington's trade embargo against Cuba will cause hunger and suffering on the island.
In a column published Monday by government-run newspapers, Castro said Obama was "the most-advanced candidate in the presidential race," but noted that he has not dared to call for altering U.S. policy toward Cuba.
"Obama's speech can be translated as a formula for hunger for the country," Castro wrote, referring to Obama's remarks last week to the influential Cuban American National Foundation in Miami.
Obama said he would maintain the nearly fifty-year-old trade sanctions against Cuba as leverage to push for democratic change on the island. But he also vowed to ease restrictions on Cuban Americans traveling to Cuba and sending money to relatives.
He repeated his willingness to meet with Raul Castro, who in February succeeded his elder brother Fidel to become the nation's first new leader in 49 years.
Castro said Obama's proposals for letting well-off Cuban Americans help poorer relatives on the island amounted to "propaganda for consumerism and a way of life that is unsustainable."
He complained that Obama's description of Cuba as "undemocratic" and "lacking in respect for liberty and human rights" was the same argument previous U.S. administrations "have used to justify their crimes against our homeland." full article (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080526/ap_on_el_pr/castro_obama)
History proves - that President Fidel Castro has been a great friend to Africa and Africans. He has also been steadfast on the front line fighting against the great beast Imperialism/Colonialism, the very same beast WE say we want destroyed. How should Africans in america respond to Senator Obama's postion on Cuba?
Uhuru!(freedom)
Each1teach1 05-27-2008, 11:08 PM I have always considered Castro a hero and a champion on civil rights based on his actions to over throw a dictatorship and fight against imperialism. He has been painted as something else around the world when the truth is all he wanted was peace and freedom for his country. I think Afro Americans should look at his history and the history of Cuba and learn about him, and where he stands in the fight against imperialism...
SPEAKFREEDOMnet 05-28-2008, 08:36 PM Uhuru! Each1teach1,

Absolutely! I agree that WE would do well to study not only President Castro and his great works but the many others who have and continue to stand firm without compromise against the beast Imperialism/colonialism. And yes it is extremely important that we recognize and dismiss the Black Propaganda (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_propaganda) used to discredit and demonize these freedom fighters.
With that being said How should Africans in america respond to Senator Obama's postion on Cuba? (open 2 all)

If Obama does become POTUS then WE need to pressure him to normalize relations with Cuba which means an end to any type of embargo and trade restrictions. I would extend this to granting a presidential pardon to Sister Assata Shakur. The Cuban government has been very pro-active in their support of African Freedom fighters and more of us need to recognize this support. The Cubbans have also sponsored some of the most political conscious elements within hip hop.

Well I think that you have to know the history of the presidency in relation to its postion on communist countries. The attitude is that the country should turn toward democracy so that it can open up for trade and exploit any and all resources. The American govt cloaks this ideology by saying "we want peoples all around the world to be free and the only way to gain that freedom is through democracy and trade." To abandon this position as a prez is like signing your own political death warrant and maybe a physical one too. It jeopardizes/thwarts the goal of neo imperialism and conquering the globe through "free trade and democracy". Most African Americans probably no little to nothing about Castro and Cuba and have adopted the ideology of whites concerning their political position in relation to the US. The first thing theyre probably going to say is we dont care about the cubans and secure the boarder. But the first thing is that people need to be educated on the historical position of the presidency on foreign policy and then see that the logical thing for Obama to do to win the election is follow protocol and then try to make the changes when he wins.
ricialove 05-29-2008, 10:30 PM Who would've thought Obama would come as far as he has? I really like him. One of the best reasons I like him is because Obama seems to have a strong grip on knowing who he is and appears to be very comfortable with that. I'm not sure why some feel he won't respresent black folks. Of the two nations who created him, it seems evident to me that he prefers the Black. But besides that, he is his own man. Not trying to fit into any one's preconceived expectations of what a black man SHOULD act like, talk like, live like, etc...
I don't know if any of this qualifies the making of a good President. But in my mind, to be a Black man in this White world and love your black self... and love your black wife... and father your black daughters...
THAT'S BLACK POWER!

Thanks for that. In the early 90s I taught in Lynwood when the girls b-ball team was winning state championships and I coached track in the elementary to middle school division (youth age 6-14). A lot of our kids ran in the Hersheys and ARCO/Jesse Owens meets such as Kareem Kelly (CA State champ in 200m)
Our kids went on to Dominguez, Lakewood, LB Polly, Artesia and Lynwood HS, just to name a few.
'Those were the days'.
Peace.

roarin1 07-04-2008, 08:37 PM What a series of perfect examples of how to highjack a thread and splatter spam all over it.
Nowhere have I ever disrespected anyone elses threads anywhere, by purposely disregarding it's original topic/subject matter.
I do at least try to deal with the poster as having maybe a legitimate concern....if I decide to chime in.
What has any of the above gibberish got to do with Afrikan Liberation Day?
Or is the intent of the outside gibberish to disrespect it too?
roarin1 07-05-2008, 02:09 PM No further comments huh? Thats pathetic.

Guilty as charged!
My apologies. I knew after I posted this that I needed to go to the beginning and speak to the TOPIC of discussion. I did go to the beginning yet, did not have the time to reply.
Also, I'm not much inclined to share my views on the whole Obama/polictikal stuff anyway.
I watched the video, I read a little of the first link you provided. I have not yet visited alduhuru.org...yet...just based on the title of this post and the gist of the discussion...my two shells would have me to say NO...Obama is NOT "Black Power".
As I think and say this I begin to wonder:?:....just what is "Black Power"....at least to you or to the person who originally asked the question. Seems I would need to view the May 25th discussion to get a better sense of how "black Power" defined.
Obama is a man of mixed ancestry. Those ancestry are and have been diametrically opposed with one attempting to dominate and control the other. Obama also identifies himself as a politician. As such, I don't think he CAN be "black power" not in the context of being a political figure.
Will he "change" once elected to office:?: I have my doubts as HIStory has provided evidence to suggest that that is not probable. It IS "Possible"....yet...that possibility is low...based on my data or information.
So I stuck to the comments about "track" and meant no disrespect...tho...I RECOGNIZE that I DID "disrespect" you by walking into the conversation with some of my ish!...
and for THAT....I apologize
