black people eat Mexican food, patronize Mexicans, eat Chinese food, shop at little Asian corner stores, we have to support white business because they are the majority of the population, A-rabs sell alcohol and pork grinds to black people so their being patronized, but heres the question.

DO YOU REALLY THINK THAT MEXICANS AND ASIANS WOULD PATRONIZE A BLACK OWNED BUSINESS?

Not to the extent we patronize theirs. I noticed the asians have moved into hair care services here. (Barber shop) I doubt they would go to a black salon to get their hair done, but the brothers are lining up to let them cut their hair.

I SHOULD HAVE MADE THIS A POLL!

FAITHSOULSISTER, DO YOU THINK THAT A KOREAN FAMILY WOULD EAT AT A BLACK RESTAURANT?

I haven't seen any Koreans in any black owned restaurants.

This question can be easily answered by observation, and analysis.

Black businesses in general usually don't get the same volume from other
racial groups that black people give to them. Would I be incorrect in saying that most Asians shop with Asians?

we ask the wrong questions black people, what those of us with businesses SHOULD BE ASKING is this, what can i do as a black business person to make my business more user friendly and attractive to my customers,am i smiling when a fellow black person comes up to my place of business?do i have what the black public wants in my place of business?are my employees trained to serve well and with RESPECT? these are the kinds of questions we need to be asking ourselves and to those brothers and sisters with businesses maybe you might want to hand out some serveys once in awhile to get the public's view, you see people the reason that we don't buy from one another isn't the lack of product it's the lack of RESPECT..and believe me i see it every time i'm at the mall.

No they would not patronize with black owned business, but they happily run them out of business every chance they get.

It is blatantly obvious that we are the camels on whose backs other minorities ride to get bto the American Dream. What is worrisome, is that this does not seem to bother us. I recall way back in the mid to late eighties when racial profiling was a turbulent issue in the black community, and there were constant demonstrations and programs by activists to bring attention to it. I cannot recall seeing or hearing about any significant support from other other minority groups, many of whom were doing the same profiling of blacks in their 24/7s and taxi cabs.

Today it is a new ball game after 911, and others have become sensitive to the evils of racial profiling. But unlike their attitudes when the focus was on us, our political leadership rose up in defence of their rights not to be profiles. Some strange ironies plague the black existence.

thats the biggest problem I have in bold...all these people have so much hatred towards black people, WHICH IS FINE I DON'T CARE..F THEM TOO...but the crazy part is black people don't care. BLACK PEOPLE ARE THE ONLY NON-RACIAL PEOPLE ON EARTH and it's sickening.

the answer is yes!!

Location,location,location!!!

While in los angeles this summer I was amazed at the large number of black owned businesses! One particular that really caught my memory was a rib stand near cesar chaves blvd in L.A. This rib stand was black owned and was getting money from all types of people.Mexicans, asians, white, and black!!! I felt proud to see all these groups buying from a black owned operation!

Now if you built a business in a mexican or asian neighborhood would they support?depends on what it is,if it is a taco stand or chinese restaurant maybe not,if it is a ice cream store,or supermarket most likley. Present a good product, good price, and good service any one will support you. Don't think so negative people.

Look at the george forman grill, every body and they mama got that one!!!

that was a serious comment. Though Foreman may not own the company , he is the face. people Identify with foreman when the buy it.

I work at a black owned sports bar withh all types of people coming in. Do asians ask "will blacks support us"?no they just do it. Offer good service, goo product at competitive prices anyone will support you. I also use toown a cleaning service all types of people used my service.Oneofmy repeat clients was asian (well she as married to a black man lol). An asian man used to get his hair cut at my barber shop-lol feel me?In my company we had all typesof clients cause we advertised to all people via mass mailings. You do raise a validpoint, and that is an issue for black businesses but it won't stop you, again a good product/service they will have no choice. !!Don't think so much race, just think green baby!!

I hate to be the bearer of a negative comment, but I must say this because I want to know what you all think....

From my personal experiences... when a brother opens a business... we are the first to not support it..... say things like "that cat thinks he/she all that"...

If we don't support one another first then how can we really support anything......

No, I don't think they would support our businesses..... but on the real IMO.. we gotta start with us first.....

Sister Miss Lady ... Hello and Welcome ...

Thanks for joining us, and sharing.

I agree with you. We don't support Black Business in the manner that we should, so why would we think other folk would support Black Business in any collective manner?

We may be able to point to a few isolated situations, where a Sister or Brother is being supported by a collective of people ... but it is much easier to show where we don't collectively support our own.

It's so time out, in my opinion, for caring what other folk do.

It's time for us to do for us. If we did this, it really wouldn't matter a whole lot, if other folk did it or not.

Again ... welcome, and please make yourself at home, because you are.

thank you!!

^^and great point! "It really wouldn't matter"...

and as a matter of fact... I think we will always "patronize" others.. we like to call it simply "cracking".... I think others are more afraid of us then anything.... and fear and jokes don't mix.... I mean true indeed "we got jokes".. but hey one thing I love about my people is the way that we do laugh in the face of adversity....

"ye thou I walk ........... I shall fear no evil".....

I love my people always, and I'm buying everything (almost) we put out......

much luv and respect!

If we wish to examine this phenomenon we only need to peer at what transpired immediately after integration and black folk found out that they could now buy from white people. The numerous black businesses that were serving the community because black people were not permitted to shop where they pleased, immediately went under. This included banks, newspapers and a slew of service businesses built up by blacks over centuries.

I am always amazed by the burgeoning nail care business Koreans have pioneered in black communities. No I do not blame them. I surmise that they sat down and thought long and hard about the viability of commercializing on black vanity and came up with that idea. Please, this is not a knock on sisters, because brothers also have their areas where such commercializing is apparent. Most notably the manufacturers and vendors of big and tall garments. With our youth choosing to lower their waist to their knees, using up more cloth than was necessary for rational covering of the body, and adorning themselves with 10 karat gold jewelry, it is sound business tatics for outsiders to commercialise black vanity.

I like T.D. Jakes.... and he makes a valid point...

there are billions of dollars in the black community....

others' are marketing for that money....

true story: I'm from Lil Rhody (RI)... the chinese restaurant sells fried chicken with plantains.. and/or gizzards... so they are providing something that is consumed within the community.... the prices are reasonable...

if i must choose between the $12.95 fried chicken @ the soul food restaurant, and the $5.95 plate from the chinese restaurant... Imma go for the better deal....... it's not a matter of who is providing the service.. it is who is providing the better price...............

Yeah, but are you sure you are eating chicken? Do you suppose that chinese restuarants throw out the partly cooked food that was laying outside throughout the previous days, or do you think they recycle it. Have you ever taken a good look at the conditions of those restuarants that inundate the black community? Well, hell, I suppose the fried chiken tastes good and it beats cooking.

It is no wonder that blacks die more from cholesterol induced heart disease and other ailments. We have a very cursory and dismissive style of examining issues that are important to our communities.

No, not sure...

Yes, I look at the conditions....

truth be told my sister... I don't eat in either.... I'd rather cook at home for the reasons that you specified...

I think that even within the black community the important issues can still vary... based on personal experiences and where your passions lay...

I care very much about conditions in the restaurants, but restaurants in general are not really sanitary... hospital also (mrsa).... they look clean but they are not... in the hood the restaurants are dirty and they look dirty, and in the subhurbs they look clean, but are still very dirty....

we can all make an individual, concious effort to eat healthier .....

yell...............
