WASHINGTON (NNPA) – Harvard University divinity professor, the Rev. Harvey G. Cox Jr., recalls marching for civil rights with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and even being arrested for the cause.

“There were an enormous number of White pastoral participants. There were nuns. There were priests. There were rabbis. There were a lot of people involved at that time,” recalls Cox, among the nation’s preeminent theologians.

But, more than 40 years later, amidst daily reports of racial violence, threatening nooses, torture, and other hate crimes across the U. S., Cox now marvels at the near deafening silence of his fellow White clergy.

Desteeand we are surprised at this?no back in the day it was popular for those whites to march with dr.king and it got them and thier church noticed which is what most of em wanted anyways, not counting the ones who were ordered to go alone by the government to keep an eye on things, what we have to learn is not to be shocked or surprised at ANYTHING the man does or doesn't do but be prepared for the results.

The Pat Roberts and others all criticized King then. Why is he shocked that they continue their wicked ways? Especially when they are at the pinnacle of power and able to enact their racist policies. There is a reason that they heavily fund right wing think tanks and the elephant people. Them and their disciples arent about to come to our aid now

When so many Black pastors are preaching prosperity and diminishing the factor of racism in this society. If the Black middle class benefits from acting colorblind why then should white pastors recognize and speak out against something that Black folks themselves have even got to the point of denying it exists.

Other than Al Sharpton who many do not see as a legitimate pastor, what Black pastors are in the fore-front of combatting "racism"? If there are none, or they exist in small numbers, its unrealistic to expect any non-Blacks to be leading a fight for US.

1st off, blacks benefitting from color blindness isnt true. :deal: Many are benefitting because they have chosen to do business together. NO black person denies racism exists. There may be some colored and neegros out there. Even the former congressmen from Oklahoma, that benefitted greatly from selling out, will only preach that so far now. He is telling it like it is.

Whether or not people see Sharpton or Jackson as legitmate ministers is irrelevent. They are fighting, still, and furthering the cause. Moreover, there is still a national network of partors that support the fight against racism. There was a million Man and Womans marches for a reason. There just isnt a spokesman like KING
