Ionlyspeak truth informed me that a trojan tried to get into his computer when he downloaded the last recording. I contacted my host and they informed me that someone had broken my password and put code on my page (although the rep I talked to said it was not a real virus). My screen totally froze up this morning and I was unable to save any of the class. However I heard the whole thing and will do my best to write here the major points that brotha oldsoul made. If any of you remembers anything I left ouit please feel free to post it so that others can share the benefit of our collective memory.

Topic: Accelerated Time

In a nutshell, accelerated time is the result of technologies that reduce the amount of time it takes to do things and go places. It is also the gap such technologies create between generations where things did not change much, such as the generation of our mothers and grandmothers, and the recent generations where things seem to change at a faster and faster rate.

Some of us said we would rather our children not go to schools that have computers because they need to learn to think on their own. Brotha oldsoul pointed out that we are on computers right here. A lot of what we know is information we learned by having access to people through computers, people we would never have met in the pre computer age. He also pointed out that the world is not going to give up it's technology. Even after a nuclear war the knowledge to rebuild will be there and society will go forward not back. Our children need to be able to compete in their world so we cannot hold them to our slower pace. Some of you may recall the time not too long ago when he said he didn't need cable. Nothing wrong with dial-up. Why spend all that money when I coulde be using it for something else? If you were there and you sse the difference then you know why we are glad he decided to go cable.

As of today I must still transfer some of the older classes but everything for the last five or six months is there including yesterday's awesome class. I will get the older ones up in a minute.

I was unable to record last night's class; however, I did take notes of brotha oldsoul's major points. That was a really powerful message. We've had paradigm shifts and taken our collective leaps together before but what the brotha had to say last night brought it all together under one roof where we can take a close look and truly overstand which way the land is laying. I can only hope that my notes will suffice to perpetuate this powerful message.

There are four areas of our lives which we must reclaim control of if we want to move forward into true freedom and power. We must take control of our
space
time
energy
mobility


White racist America has devised numerous systems to deprive us from controlling these areas. Our space in urban centers is crowded with people. cluttered with things, polluted with the waste and industrial debris of more affluent communities and totally insecure. We cannot find a place to be alone with our own thoughts. We cannot trust the things we breathe, eat and drink. We cannot keep dangerous people and things our of our homes and neighborhoods. Until we own the space around us everything else we think we own will only be used against us.

Our time is hijacked by the necessity of hustling for the means to feed, clothe and house ourselves and our families. What little time we can squeeze out after these needs have been met is paid to the order of entertainment and sports. No time for self reflection. No time for self improvement. No time to take stock of where we are, where we want to be and what we need to do to get there. If we do not possess our time everything else we think we possess will be for someone else's benefit.

Energy is time and time is energy. What we give our time to is what we give our energy to.If we do not give time to moving forward then no energy will go toward that effort.

They tell us America is a mobile society. A country where a peanut farmer can become president. A country where a little boy with fat cheeks and dimples in the ghetto can become a multimillion dollar star. But I cannot go for a walk in the morning for worrying what somebody might decide to do to me. I can't go to a store or website and order the books I want without somebody wanting to know why. I cannot decide to leave in a different country with a different economic system without being la bled a terrorist. Until we are freely mobile we are sitting ducks for everyone outside the box we are locked in and they can move the box with us in it when and where t hey want.

There are two things that whites do to weaken our sense of who we are and where we stand in the world in which we live
micro insult ~ Oh thank gawd, I finally got your attention. You must be very busy tonight. My friends and I have been waiting for drinks for fifteen minutes. Could you please manage to bring five martinis to the table right there up front, please. You flick imaginary dust off your tuxedo then go home and yell at your wife.
micro aggression ~ They don't beat you to the ground and snatch you glasses off. They just act like you're not there. This is only aggression to you because you are there. It's not aggression to them because as a waste of good oxygen that crawled into the gene pool while the life guard wasn't looking you're not supposed to be there.

But you're not supposed to say anything. To say something is to acknowledge your place in their eyes just when you were thinking your tuxedo was a symbol that you had moved beyond that place and into their world. To say something is to invite them to remind you of what you already know while at the same time they deny its truth. You go home and yell at your dog.

Lastly, he pointed out four areas where man Black people get confused in their understanding of racism.

1. not knowing if whites are tolerating or accepting us. Acceptance is a basic human need.Like my mother says go where you are celebrated not tolerated. to be merely tolerated means you must always be on your toes. Never quite sure of yourself. One false move and you're outta here. Never quite sure what might be construed as a false move.
2 not distinguishing between individual supportive whites and collective destructive whites One good apple doesn't make the whole barrel good to eat.
3 not knowing when to resist oppression and when to accommodate it Brotha oldsoul asked us a soul searching question designed to help us to stop and think for a minute. The question was if a man was in a car with his woman and a cop came and started molesting the woman what should the man do. Should he stand up for his woman and risk getting killed or killing he cop and winding up on death row? He asked the sistas what we would expect from our men. He then asked the brothas what they would do. He asked what they would tell their sons to do. I then asked what they would do if their sons were there with them at the time to witness their action or inaction.He related to us that when he was in prisoners a lot of the brothas vowed that they wouldn't take no crap from the guards. Oldsoul pointed out that they are better than the guards. The guards are paid to do something to provoke them into doing or saying something that will increase their sentence. To answer an insult as if the guard is equal to them when he is in fact less than them makes no sense. He than said what he would do is take down all the identifying information that he could about the cop and refrain from doing anything that would prevent him from living long enough to use that identifying information efficaciously.
4 whether the African American locus of control is internal or external. Your locus of control is where you perceive the control in your life to be located. In yourself or in others. While most of us said it is internal brotha Nasheed said it is both and brotha oldsoul agreed with him. When asked this question we are generally railroaded into thinking we have to choose one or the other. If we say it is external then we fail to see the roles we play in our circumstances and the opportunities to make things better for ourselves. We become innocent bystanders in our own life and this breeds a sense of helplessness and hopelessness. If we say it is internal then we blame ourselves for everything. We develop self hatred and a sense of inferiority for failing to do what we think we are supposed to be able to do when in fact we aren't. We believe the lies others tell about what they do when in fact they don't. It is healthier to over stand that the locus of control is both internal and external. There are things we can do and there are thinks we can't do. To some degree and with effort we can put limits on the amount of control others have in our lives or even move somewhat out of the reach of others' control but since none of us lives on this planet alone we can never do exactly what we want to do when we want to do it.

Criteria:
1. Purchase something that is an asset. That is, it is a means of putting money into your pocket rather than taking money out of your pocket
or
2. Reduce the number or amount of bills that lay claim to your paycheck. We all know the chagrin of waiting for a check that has already been spent. If you can cut fifty dollars off the money you spend before you get paid you will increase your pay by fifty dollars.
or
3. Recognize the difference between a need and a convenience. How many of the things that you think you need are actually just conveniences that eat up money that could better be spent on an asset?
