The first tournament will be an individual format and all Destee members, brothers and sisters, are welcomed and encouraged to join us.

We'll play the matches with the online chess engine at yahoo. (http://games.yahoo.com/games/front)

Not really. Wasn't sure whether they was teaching people who don't know how to play, or just brushing up skills for those who already know.
If they have the patience and time for a beginner, Heck Yeah, I'm in!

YESSSSS Sister ... i'm sure ... even if the more advanced players don't have time for us ... we can have time for each other!
Once we get all up and running Sister Purple ... i challenge you to a chess match!
Do you know the pieces by sight / name, and how they move?
The Pawn
The Rook
The Bishop
The Knight
The Queen
The King
If not, check these tutorial pages out: Chess Tutorial (http://www.chesscorner.com/tutorial/learn.htm) ... How To Play Chess Overview (http://www.learnthat.com/courses/fun/chess/) ... Chess Tutorials and Chess Lessons (http://www.chessopolis.com/tutorials.htm)
I believe the first step is learning the pieces, and how they move ... though i could be wrong, as something else could be the first step. But i know this step should be familiar to you, before sitting down at your first chess match ... so get up on that part, if you don't know it already!
This is going to be fun!
Love You Sister!

I am a little confused, how is this set up on yahoo? how will I know what to look for
I am a little confused, how is this set up on yahoo? how will I know what to look for
It is not set-up as part of Yahoo. We are just planning to use Yahoo as a platform to play the games.
The first step for those interested in participating, is to create a yahoo id(if you don't have one already) and then log into yahoo and play a few games. So, that you are familiar and comfortable with the navigation, interface, kwk. (for example... How to set-up a private table, invite players, join a game, kwk.)
(Don't forget to post your login name, so that the tournament organizers can assign the first round match-ups.)
This is how I imagine it going forward. (Since we're still working out the details)
At the end of the sign-up period the games will be assigned. The games will be played at a mutually convenient time for the players matched. (Perhaps the players could use IM to communicate with each other and schedule the game.) The results of the game will be reported back to the tourament organizers. The winner advances. kwk...
(Just some ideas on how we could do this.)
We'll keep you posted as we are organizing this project as one of our initiatives in Brother's Chat. We will hash out the final details in our next session.
In the meantime, work on that game. LOL
Peace and Medase,
Laz
