This person plagiarized my poem that I posted on HipHopPoetry.com back on Nov.10,2006. Here's the link to my piece on that site under the same title: http://www.hiphoppoetry.com/vB/showthread.php?t=26916. I also have it posted on my myspace page, if further proof is necessary.

It's a shame that this person is a mod on this site and has the audacity to bite and take credit for a piece that he clearly did not write. It's utterly disgraceful. I don't know what measures are taken against biters on this site, but I would like this poem removed since smoothsoul is not the original author, I am!!!

I appreciate you presenting your concern, and Brother SmoothSoul will respond (give him a few days, as he's away right now).

If you'd like, i can remove the poetry in question, but i'd rather he do it, if necessary. Just let me know.

Smooth is away right now

so hopefully we can get this resolved by at least next Monday or Tuesday

It's funny how he signed on yesterday after I revealed his plagiarism and said nothing. Now he's away? I don't know about that . . . things aren't sounding right.

I just want this issue resolved in a timely manner and not dragged out. Thanks for keeping me updated though. I really appreciate it.

OK, I've been patient enough to wait the suggested time given by Da Street So'ja for smoothsoul to come back (from his convenient hiatus) and state his side of this issue or to simply come clean. Obviously this is not going to happen since I know he has logged on several times after I revealed his plagiarism including today @ 01:10 AM and yet he still has not said one word about this matter, at least not to my knowledge.

How ever the administration deals with that person in question is of no consequence to me, but I do want to make sure that my poem has no other author associated with it besides me. So with all due respect, Destee, can you please remove this thread.

I've still not had the opportunity to speak with Brother SmoothSoul, and don't know his position regarding this. I think it's safe to assume that he's not willing to fight for ownership of this piece, since he removed it from the original first post. (I'm assuming he removed it, as it didn't note it on the edit, but i don't believe another Moderator would have.)

This is an unfortunate experience, but one we can learn from. Brother SmoothSoul is not the first Member that's been called out for posting another's poetry. It is never pleasant, but if dealt with properly, can be overcome. It was (and still is) my hope, that Brother SmoothSoul will step forward and speak to this concern. I'm of the opinion, that if someone posts something publicly, and is challenged publicly, they should also respond publicly. It makes this situation all the more trying, because he is a Moderator and held to a higher standard.

I'm sure he's feeling a little ashamed, as most of us would be (and probably should be) in this situation. Bless his heart. I know this has to be hard for him. He really is a good Brother. He cares about this community, and has extended himself above and beyond the call of duty, to help keep it alive. As a matter of fact, last week, we were going through some terrible times and Brother SmoothSoul came to me and said, Destee don't worry, we're gonna take care of this, and it was taken care of. There are lots of indicators pointing to one's character and integrity, and in Brother SmoothSoul's absence, it would be my hope, that we count all things.

Brother BlackVision ... are you a Brother? ... if not, no disrespect is intended ... but Brother, i understand your position as well, and have dedicated all the years to protecting it. Members are not allowed to post the work of others. I've received much flack about this rule, and held fast to it, no matter. I really am honored that you came and informed us of this. It had to be brought out. You did EXACTLY like we want folk to do, when such a situation occurs. Thank You.

Unfortunately, Brother SmoothSoul hasn't done EXACTLY what he needs to do, to correct it. As a leader in this community, he has to lead. He has to stand up and say, okay, yes i did it, and i'm sorry ... (or something similar). Like i said before, i think he's a little bit ashamed and reluctant to do this. Oftentimes, it's very hard to face one's own errors. I deal with this myself, as i'm sure all of us have at one time or another. It's even more difficult to do, when in front of thousands, but the more difficult, the greater the reward. Brother SmoothSoul will grow so much, by simply facing this, and i'm not giving up on him in doing that.

It may take him a minute, but i'm believing he'll do it. Leadership manifests itself in many ways, and Brother SmoothSoul has exemplified that across the board. This is just a mistake, and in his defense, he is a Moderator but a new one, and may not be aware of the particular rules of the forums, as he's a Chat Mod. I'm not making any excuses for him, i'm just say'n.

Leaving the thread up, provides the opportunity for Brother SmoothSoul to post to it (which is what is needed). Thank you for the lengthy reply, your concern and careful handling of the situation is very much appreciated. I understand every word you expressed and I accept the steps that have been taken thus far. I didn't realize at the time that the material had been removed until you mentioned it. I will further await an apology or at least some type of words from smoothsoul. I have a forgiving heart, but not for someone who cowers behind a mistake or poor decision made by not stepping up to admit fault so everyone can move on. Perhaps he will grow from this experience and work on his craft so he's never again caught and revealed as a plagiarist.

. . . and yes, I am a brotha so once again much thanks and gratitude I extend to you and all the others who demonstrated their concern throughout this ordeal.
