Writing Skills Course
Every Saturday @ 6 pm ET - destee.com/chat (http://destee.com/chat)
Objective : Upon completion of this course student will be able to
1. Effectively generate ideas and transfer them to written form
2. Organize written ideas
3. Communicate ideas to specific audience with a specific purpose
4. Revise writing effectively
5. Avoid common grammatical errors
Class Resources : http://ebonyminds.com/writingskills/
Rationale : It is frustrating to have an idea but not be able to express it in a way that others can understand and respond to. Being able to write effectively opens up doors. Of course, the benefits of writing well go far beyond landing a job. Writing well also allows us to implement the “each one teach one” philosophy of learning in a way that does not merely distribute ignorance and regurgitate mediocrity.
Methods
Reading - we will read and analyze samples of essays, poems, stories and handouts.
Lecture - instruction will cover basic strategies for generating, organizing and revising written ideas as well as producing powerful creative writing.
Writing - the best way to learn how to write is to do it.
Feedback - we will offer one another feedback of what we write so that we can understand how effectively we are communicating with our audience.
