Based on that I'd reccomend Archer Daniels Midland (ADM).
PoeticManifesta 12-25-2006, 11:02 PM yes.,. i inherited mt grandfathers stock in that company.. very solid.. im weary on dropping names lazzy just because ppl may go by what we mention..
not thinking of the investment with them in mind..
im a very risky investor when it comes to the open market.. on the non agricultural end.... and i invest for long term... with maybe one short term if its on the comeup quickly enough..
One should invest in.. whatever suits thier investing style.. and do thier own research.. not only would they appreciate the stock more.. but if they do loose money they are more likely to know.. and understand why.
and to learn from it.. to do better next time.. ive found when i give my input... they just invest.. and expect some quick turnover... or as soon as the ticker goes down a couple of points they loose intrest... and bail.
Stocks and the money market are the only things that i speak in total numerical terms... cant explain the hows and whys to anyone.. i just know how to do what i do..
Laz.. why dont you explain how.. to invest to our people..
how to read the stocks and figure out how much a share is..
how to buy them..
and what to expect from different industrys as far as growth..
btw..
if you are lost.. suzie orman is awesome.. and shes on cspan.. look up her show.. she will shed light on any financial situation!
Based on that I'd reccomend Archer Daniels Midland (ADM).

Have you looked any of the African stock exchanges? Last week's business week says folks are making a killing over there. (no pun intended)
hiphopolx 12-29-2007, 02:36 PM The telecommunication sector is hot right now. Last year they were at some very low points so they are starting to come back up. e.g. Verizon and AT&T.
I-khan 01-06-2008, 06:46 PM What do I need to know before I get started in investing, how do I get started.
Miss Lady 01-07-2008, 08:09 AM i don't really watch the rise and fall of the numbers in the stock market..
i would take a look at cvs tho.....
they just aquired caremark.. eckerd drug... and bought brooks out...
stock market is a crooked game IMO ...
but healthcare is not healthcare it is a money maker.....
the problem with quick expansion is maintaining...
to get into investing tho....
stock market would be risk investment..
i personally would't if I didn't have money to loose... which most black people don't.....
like an in and out type of game.... buy.. let it rise a few bucks.. get out...
can't be greedy....
really as I see it... stock market is legal gambling.... like lottery...
can't shoot craps.. cause we can't tax it... can't play pitty pat.. u know..
man crooked .. crooked .. crooked.....
hiphopolx 01-07-2008, 09:25 AM What do I need to know before I get started in investing, how do I get started.
Before I started getting into stock I observed it for a long time before I got into it. I watched how the companies that I was familiar with moved in the market. I used the Yahoo financial section a lot to observe the stocks because of its free, easy to use and accessible. As an example here is Nutrisystem Inc. http://finance.yahoo.com/q/hp?s=NTRI
Here you can observe for your self the daily movements of any major publicly incorporated company who has listed on a exchange such as the NY stock exchange or NASDAQ or Amex. Most of the major companies don't move a lot from day to day. You want to get a feel on the movements of these companies yourself. Talking with folks is a good thing just as much as it is a bad thing. The bottom line is you want to understand how to invest your money. I was making some good money when I started. But I took risks. The moves I made were riskier than I actually knew at the time. The thing that messed me up were penny stocks. So don't be tempted with the penny stock game. I got caught up cause I did get lucky at first so I had a warped sense of reality of it in the beginning and before I knew it or could mentally accept it for what it was, I was out of the money I invested. Had I stayed with the reputable companies I was investing in. I'd probably have a nice (well into the 6 figure range) sized acct. right now. I do want to get back in the stock game. You could make more than a bank would easily. If you have any sense of how the market is. As a matter of fact that is a understatement. The bank is a poor example. Mutual Fund would be a better comparison. There are multitude of ways to invest as well whether it be short range or long range. So if you are just starting off there are a lot of things to consider before you begin.
I think the knowledge and experience that you gain alone makes it worth it.
I-khan 01-07-2008, 02:20 PM ^^^I appreciate the help, what books and/or other sites do you recommend?
What should I do if I clear up my 'debt' during the recession and plan on investing? What do you know about incorporating/ offshore banks?
thanx in advance.
hiphopolx 03-04-2008, 10:15 AM Visa Inc. is scheduled to do an IPO this month. IPO = initial public offering. Thats when a corporation starts to offer their shares to the public via brokerage account companies like Fidelity, JP Morgan, Scotrade, E Trade, etc. As a reference Mastercard Inc. did one in May of 2006 They started selling their stock in the $40 dollar per share range. Today it is selling for about $180 down from $200 dollars not to long ago. There are alot of factors to be considered now especially with the state the economy is right now. But I thought I'd share this with those who are interested.
Peace
