View Full Version : Black Women : Are You Pretty with no Makeup, Weave, Wig, Perm ?
Destee 12-19-2006, 04:19 PM Peace and Blessings Sisters,
I was browsing the web and found this article, Beyonce's Wig Malfunctioned (http://www.mediatakeout.com/Exclusives/Beyoncewig_Malfunction.html), and it made me wonder how this poll would go ...
Do you consider yourself pretty ... with no makeup, weave, wig, or perm ... pretty in the naked beauty that God gave you?
Do you consider yourself pretty then ... with none of the extra stuff added on?
I do think i'm pretty like that! :D ... i mean, i gotta comb my naps out and stuff, make sure everything is all lotioned up ... but yes ... i do think i'm pretty with none of that stuff and ... i rarely wear any of it. I think the last time i had makeup on (anything more than lipstick), was my daughter's graduation in May ... and then i had some mascara and eyeliner too. Don't misunderstand me yall, i aint no Beyonce (by any stretch of the imagination), but i think i'm pretty the way God made me, and i live this truth every day. I useta do the props all the time, so it's been a journey, my getting here ... but i am here now! :D ... and yes yes yes ... i think i'm pretty without ANY of that stuff! Yall feel me?
This also makes me think of something else too Sisters.
The whole plastic surgery industry! Oh My Gosh! Look at the hype that is being put into not wanting folk to love their own selves, the way God made them! This is almost sinful! Folk so nonchalantly changing and disliking what God gave. I'm talking, the stuff that is straight from God!
Reminds me of my ... Little Black Girls Are Ugly (http://destee.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44822) ... thread.
Anyway ...
Are you pretty when you have no make up, no weave, no perm, no wig, no none of that stuff?
Do you spend time with yourself, without those things?
Do you let others see you, without those things?
Do you even know your own self, without those things?
Please vote in the poll above, and share your thoughts below.
Much Love and Peace.

cursed heart 12-19-2006, 04:51 PM If you have a pretty face you can wear just about any hair style.
The difference with me is when I don't wear make-up I look 17.
The make-up gives me a more mature look.
I have a pretty baby face so I try not to add too much.
My mother and ex-boyfriends use to tell me I looked like a baby.
That burns me up sometimes because I'm 30 !
Destee 12-19-2006, 06:08 PM Sister Cursed Heart ... thanks for responding, but trust me, looking young is a wonderful thing! You may be lamenting it now, but you will come to Thank God for that one quality alone, as you are blessed to see the years pass by! :)
You know what yall ... since i've been wearing my hair natural, i look at those who don't in a whole different way. Oh gosh, i'm becoming jaded! :eeek: Not real jaded, like hating on other folk for being in the same place i was, or those in the process of their own personal journey to find and love their own selves ... nothing like that ... but jaded in the sense ... that i wonder, when i see Black women on television or in magazines, with their permed, bone straight hair ... i wonder ... do they feel fake at all? Do they realize that none of that "beauty" would be there, if they didn't alter themselves to get it? They probably don't, i know i never did, which is really amazing. I could never see any of this, while i was in it (wearing my hair permed), never even hardly thought on it.
I sometimes think ... we are such a fake people ... pretending our hair aint really nappy ... and yes, me too ... smh.
Reminds me of a thread i started, Worshipping False Idols (http://destee.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42116).

Riada 12-19-2006, 07:42 PM No, Destee, I don't "feel" pretty without lipstick. I never go outside where anyone can see me without at least a little lipstick on. My face just seems gray and colorless without it. Now, I know I have plenty of color in my skin, but my face just seems so blah without a little lipstick. I rarely wear facial makeup and never wear mascara, wigs, weave, or anything like that. I've been told by men that I'm pretty without anything on my face, but I don't believe them.
spicybrown 12-19-2006, 07:45 PM I don't wear make-up ,ever, except for the rare occasion where I may slide on a lil lipstick since my lips are "pinkish", but cute... a trait that "you know who" has a patent on  I have a natural coloration to my eyelids that give the illusion of maroonish eyeshadow, and red undertones that make the use of Blush obsolete. If I did wear makeup, it would take away from my flushed complexion, and even it out, which would take away the "illuminance", making me appear "dull".
As far as hair, I can do without all the weave; relaxers; and wigs, and do look better natural. However, with a longer face, I feel that longer hair suits my face structure, be it natural or straight. I've learned to beautify myself without all the extras. I figure if I can ace the natural look... imagine what I can do with the "extras". I love being natural, that way my sweetheart can run his fingers through my hair, and caress my skin without Brown smudges afterwards. Leaves a lot of room for fun, like going swimming spur of the moment, etc.
I  me:)
As far as celebrities "faking it"; I always figured they had to appease their fanbase by altering their look to suit every one's liking. I never really understood ordinary women who do it ALL the time. Maybe they like it*shrugs*. I usually see the celebs in the tabloids looking plain with ordinary clothes on...some of them look a hot mess LOL. At least they strip the costume while offstage.

Sister Spicy ... thanks for responding, and i agree. If we can pull off being natural, and still feel pretty ... c'mon now, it really can't get any better than that! It's like the standard of beauty has moved to the far fake, while the far real, is considered ugly. What if pretty was determined by one's NATURAL appearance. Just out of the bed. Sisters would win hands down, because we have the bestestest stuff! We have the most beautiful skin. We have the most beautiful hair, the strongest, the only that grows up to the heavens, creating a crown on our head ... right out of the bed!
I never wore much make-up either ... even the word ... make up ... fake ... pretend ... even the word says it ... yet we miss the significance of it ... hmmmm ... anyway ... as i said, i never wore much make-up ... and i never wore the foundation stuff because i would see it on other Sisters and the difference in the color of their face ... from their face to their neck ... where they stopped applying the make-up ... that place right there ... you could always see the difference in her real color, and the color of the make-up! I thot ... *sigh* ... nawww, i won't do that ... plus ... you see it all over their clothes too ... their shirt collar i mean ... just messiness to keep up with, in my opinion, that i never was interested in.
**correction** ... wait wait wait ... i did wear foundation before ... years ago, for a short period ... and i am remembering the withdrawal from it ... how i'd become accustomed to seeing my face in that "made-up" way, and when i didn't have the make-up on ... whew Lawd! ... where is that make-up?!!? When i saw this, along with the above, i realized that wearing foundation was also quite addictive ... i forced myself to stop wearing that stuff ... because i didn't like me without it! Okay ... sorry about the wrong information above ... i have wore foundation before.
Yes Sister Spicy ... we must  me ... totally and completely, as God made us.

Riada 12-19-2006, 08:22 PM Destee, I don't think that a woman HAS to be pretty in order to have good self esteem or have a wonderful man like I have. I don't think I've missed anything by having a blah colorless looking face. I've always gotten enough attention from men, and I have high self esteem, so I don't feel I've missed anything.
I do think that some women are very pretty, but everybody can't be pretty.
spicybrown 12-19-2006, 08:24 PM What if pretty was determined by one's NATURAL appearance.
Good question. "pretty" ought to be determined by a clean and clear complexion; healthy hair; clean & straight teeth; healthy; bright eyes; good hygiene; moderately in shape... a playing field in which all women can "compete"... in instead of aesthetics that vary and make it difficult to set a specific standard <~~~ I never understood that!

Ohhh Sister Riada ... i disagree. How can anyone think their own self not pretty?
As i read you, i think of my Little Black Girls Are Ugly (http://destee.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44822) thread, and i see a little girl saying she is not pretty, and that everybody can't be pretty. I totally disagree. You are most definitely pretty. If you were my baby, my daughter, i'd never let you get away with saying such words, thinking such thoughts. Of course you are pretty, who did God make prettier than you?!
But you are not a little girl, so i will say okay to your response ... and let you have your way ... for now ...

LMAO.. I find that's when I get the most attention... zipping to the store to get milk first thing in the morning. Ya still have the "bloat" to your face, and aren't sure if lil crud balls are in your eyes:lol: I'm like:"What are YOU LQQKn at ".
Some men like the "fresh out" look, and get to see the woman, raw. Wearing makeup & weaves is the norm, so men will "capture" the vision when they can. LOL

So true. You can see some one looking busted one day, and next month, they look 40 @ 60. Plastic surgery is more common then we think.
Seriously, I pondered rhinoplasty back in school. Of course as a thin sister, it appeared more prominent. I wanted to reduce the height of the bridge on my nose and smooth out the ridge on it, until I found out that feature was envied and rare... so I said "fluck it, my nose is a part of my heritage... and if you wanna call me everything under the sun except for a Black girl... I'll be that!". We just neeed to learn to  ourselves "as is", and screw whomever can't accept it

Yes Sister Spicy ... i have thought of plastic surgery for parts of myself that i didn't like ... the parts that didn't fit the mold of beauty that has been presented to us ... and i thought of having it changed ... but i immediately thought also, of my daughter, and the fact that she is just like me ... built like me, looks like me, everything! ... i thought, how will i help her deal with the differences in beauty that she sees in herself, and those in the media ... and i knew i would not be able to help her ... the only thing i would be able to say to her ... is ... well ... Momma fixed it with plastic surgery ... and i thought of all the babies yet to come, if they inherited this same part of me (and those before me) ... what would they think of themselves, and how will they be managing it ... would i be providing the best choice, example, for my babies? ... needless to say ... i never had no surgery ... and in addition ... one time long ago, when i was thinking of one of them kinda surgeries ... fantasizing ... i felt a pain in that part of me ... just a sharp quick lightning bolt of pain ... and i mmediately imagined myself without it ... as though it were sick or something ... and i said ... ohhhhh Lawd ... i love it ... i love me ... i love it just like it is ... please don't let it be sick ... please don't take it from me ... and of course ... it wasn't, and i still have it! ... :)
They present it as small stuff, enhance your beauty, when it's really very big, evidenced by so many things.
Mr. Neely Fuller, Jr. would call this the precision sharpness of white supremacy / racism.

I've been natural for about 5-6 months now.
I am wearing micro's so I'm basically carefree.
I play with them, wet them, curl them, pin them up or let them run free like a rastafarian.
Now when they come out is another story.:darts:

I'd settle for a tummy tuck and stretch mark removal.:pool:
I wouldn't want to change a thing on my face.
However because I constantly rub my eyes from my allergies the lids of my eyes are a bit darker.
I can't stand that!
Anyone have a solution for this?

I see, removing excess weight is not nearly as dangerous as adding botox and implants. I considered lipo on my abs a few months ago, but I am starting to see the results of my exercise, and am glad I didn't dish out thousands for that!!!! Use cocoa butter 3 times a day on stretch marks and they'll gradually fade. There's this stuff called "Tub'O'Butter" in a tall 32 oz canister (?pure cocoa butter?) which clears up blemishes FAST! I had a friend bring some from New York and let me use some; in 1 week, my blemishes were gone 4 real, and skin was clearer than that of a 5 year old. I'm still searching for a beauty store that sells it.
I have the "raccoon" eyes naturally, so there's not much I can nor want to do to change it. Heck, I've been told numerous times that it is sexy and mystifying, so...
I knew some women from India who have HEAVY dark circles around their eyes, and I used to see them using witch hazel several times a day to rid the darkness, or plain bleaching cream; however, I wouldn't recommend the latter.
You may want to try allergy medicine to stop the itching so you won't have to rub your eyes... or just squint/blink really hard to relieve the itch.

when i wear makeup usually im covering up something.. weither it be how i feel that day.. or my untamed eyebrows that i havent plucked that i need to appear tamed..

Bluewater 12-29-2006, 12:36 PM Hi Family
I like to wear make up sometime, to me it is natural during
times of celebration, or if I'm about to go to war..lol.
Yes I said war, because I work for corporate American
and if someone try to tip my scale or if there
is a certain meeting I have to be apart where my point
of view needs to be heard, oh yes I do, I darken the eyes, and so on.
I have never used my make up for the motive of feeling or being
beautiful.
I never thought it was important how I looked. But the way I carried myself,
think and use my mind.
Going back as far in time of our ancestors to the present.
I think a lot of our culture of using make up was taken away,
because of slavery. And our ancestor was forced not to celebrate
in this form and they didn't have the same resources available like it
was in the Motherland.
Hair weave: this can be found more in the Egyptian era which
was indeed Africa, even those they say differently.
Now make up and hair weave can be removed, but when you have
someone with a knife cut into your fresh, that is for life. Now
when I look at pictures of Africa, I've seen how some tribes lips and ears
are re-shaped, and this is something that some of the tribes have
been doing for centuries, but the only thing that made be different is that
it is a practice that is shared within the tribes, and it is not to hide there
race, or show shame toward their race. In this country it is the opposite
it seem like because some are ashamed of there African looks, and so on.
They reshaped their nose, lips, and so on. Some aren't comfortable with
their breast size and they have water balloons added to there chest, and
the breast only purpose is to feed your children.
I like feeling great, I enjoy laughing, and at times act a fool, as
my grandparents often say I do..lol..but my use of make up during
these modren times is still like a Ritual to me.
Peace and Love

My hair is in locks so the speaks for its self, i am blessed with smooth even tone skin so i don't have have any blemishes to cover..... sometimes i wear powder to take away the shine, i wear eyeliner...and lip gloss...or sometimes nothing at all, it's all the same to me..so i feel pretty without makeup.......the only thing i am self concious about is the tribal marks onmy arms, and that is because they draw alot of attention...during the summer i get tired of people asking about them so I often put coverup (bodymake up) now I am not ashamed of my culture..i just don't like drawing attention to my self...
monet1027 12-31-2006, 11:46 PM Do I think that I am pretty without all the "accessories"? I do because I was raised to believe that I am so much more than what the world sees. The day I rely on looks alone is the day I set myself up for a fall.
My Mother didn't fall into the "conventional beauty" category but was stunning nonetheless and used that apartness to instill in her daughters that beauty fades.
Now don't get it twisted..I like looking cute and all that but I do it because it makes me feel good. I put on eyeliner and eyeshadow and lipstick in the morning not because I have to but because I want to. I like the girliness of dress-up now that I am grown and no longer the tomboy who hated dresses at one point. I will also leave the house without make-up and handle the streets not feeling any less attractive.
Me and Mr. Revlon (relaxer) have had a long standing relationship. Not because I feel the need to be like Buffy with the ultra-straight strands but because [B][U]FOR ME[B][U] straight hair is easier to style. Short hair is my trademark so if you ever catch me with a weave--know that I am being brainwashed and acting against my will.
I think it is up to each one of us to look in the mirror and love what we see and not look for validation outside of ourselves. None of us are perfect and there can be moles, freckles, or lines, we'd like to change if we could but never look in another woman's mirror and see yourself as less. There can be only one Halle, one Janet, one Beyonce and that's fine. I'd rather spend my life being the best and the ONLY monet1027 than being a poor imitation of someone else.

I agree totally with that statement..short story, My best friend (female) is a very pretty woman....and quite a few women are intimidated by her looks and persona...she asked me one day...why was I her friend and did not feel the same way that other women did about her...I looked her in the face smiled and said..You can't be me...of course u are a pretty woman..but..I am who I am ..and your beauty can't take that from me...she said Oh..with that said..
I am very basic and simple woman...makeup is not a daily requirement for me...(sensitive skin also)..so I have to be careful what I use on my face and body, (remembers her face being on fire with nozema)..do they still make that..anyway...
When I was younger I had a low self-esteem..my aunt tried to dress me up to make me feel prettier...makeup and all that stuff...it didn't work..because when I looked in the mirror I still saw the same girl..just with a colorful face...What really did it for me...was my ex husband...we were getting ready to go out to an eventl (nothing special group dinner) I was getting ready to put my face on....he asked me..why do u do that...I was like..what..he said..hide your face...and proceeded to tell me how much better I look without makeup and how natural my beauty is...from that day forward..I threw away the foundation the eyecolors and all the stuff that COVERED my face...
Now I do eyeliner, every now and then, only when I want that mysterious eye look
..and a little lip gloss (chocolate)...
I think we as women have to feel comfortable in who we are and enhance what is on the outside without covering up what is natural...
Me personally..my beauty is not for everyone to see....it is deeper than just a facial viewing...
So to answer the question...yes I do feel Beautiful without all the enhancers..and I have NEVER worn weave...
plove aka lovep 01-22-2007, 11:05 PM I'm pretty
I don't wear makeup at all
I was natural three times a might do it again if i feel to.
I don't wear weaves but i do love some braids ( because I'm hair lazy)
It's easy for me to not/do these things because i love myself. I know myself. Most importantly I really don't care what others think of me or how i look.
I can go outside looking like a H.A.M :eeek: with confident.
Soncerat 04-27-2007, 10:04 PM Yes, I am beautiful with no hair, stretch marks, butt sagging and naked face, because I am a Black woman!
I am where it all began, everything you see hear and experience was built on me. I have straight hair, nappy hair, no hair, curly hair, big lips, small lips, no hips, no butt, everything you see is a part of me.
So to answer your question, yes, I am beautiful all done up with make up and weave, or bare, because I am me!
river 05-15-2007, 11:18 PM Can there be anything more embarrassing than flashing a brotha what you think is a pretty smile and having him come up and tell you you've got lipstick on your teeth? Or having the wind blow your fake hair across your face and it gets stuck in your make-up which smears lipstick across your cheek when you try to remove it?
Since I started using black soap and Shea butter back in February everyone has remarked how my acne scars have cleared up. But even when they were there I did nt wear make up. We "make up" for that which is lacking and I've never felt like I lacked anything
Sure I have more nose than is actually necessary for the purpose of resperation. but it's my granddaddy's nose, my mama's nose and according to the first man I ever loved a sexy nose.
Did yawl hear the one about the blonde student who took her cosmetics bag to take a make-up exam?

First and foremost the beauty resonating within you is captivating, as well as your external beauty. Oh I know the feeling, and hate rejection; mainly why I stay in the cutt with a low profile.

I have the same regards concerning makeup. I totally dislike it. My own family has questioned my "heavy raccoon eyes" and suggested I use makeup or witch hazel to get rid of them and I just wonder: "have they forgotten that I inherited it from them?" I love them... it affords one a mystic aura. I never felt I lacked much of anything cosmetically. Heck, when you strip the "costume" you'll still have to face yourself, may as well embrace yourself.
Goddess Auset333 05-16-2007, 04:10 AM Beloved Ones:
:skate: ooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee:skate:
I was once guilty of the Unnatural contact lenses, make up, fake nails, perms weave, wigs...and the likes of.
When I removed the make-up I felt like I had two faces, and that is what it is. One face for outside and one face for inside.
I have heard females say, to visitiors, let me go and put on my face.
When I returned to my Divine right mind, I stripped myself of all that is not Natural.
I did have a hard time with getting rid of the lipstick until it was revealed to me after I interviewed some males who shared with me the thought they had when we wear lipstick, and especially the RED lipstick, and it is not kind thoughts they have.
Beloved Raida writes: I do think that some women are very pretty, but everybody can't be pretty.
Beloved, pretty is so european. Any woman who have a knowledge, overstanding, and wisdom, a THINKING woman, is a true Thinking man dream come true, and no matter how she looks, he sees a Jewel in her. No matter how the True Thinking woman looks, and a Thinking True Natural male sees her as a Jewel, he will give her half of his Kingdom if not all. Black Afrikan women are the Goddess Perfect Black, and the Divine Holy grail, that surpasses being european pretty. There is not one Black Afrikan woman to me that is not a Divine goddess regardless of her features.
It Just AIn't Natural to be artificial. We are part of Nature, and we need to embrace, Become One, and continue to make Nature apart of us, because it is Divine to do so.
As for when a Male tells us that we are better looking without make up, we better listen up, because they are our mirrors too. What they are saying is they prefer to see a Natural female. Most of the True black males are fed up with all this faking we did/do to ourselves. He sees countless females through out the day and on television all looking the same. When he come shame, give him something we have forgotten to be, and that is a Natural Woman.
Who sang the Song: Giving him something he can feel? Give him something Natural that he can feel
That way we will show our loving for self is real.
I AM loving my Locs
I AM loving my Natural Nubian Lips
I AM loving the fact that I Am now Natural so that the Divine Energy Rays from the SUN can now enter in all parts of my body without the hindrances of artificialities being on and in me.
I looked back and on all the energy I wasted on artificiality.
I ran :run: as fast as I coud to fetch my mirror to take a look at who it was beneath that artificiality. It was in the that mirror I saw a Divine me, the me I had yet to meet, and I salute and bow to the me I know now,and looking forward to the me, i still will meet No :nono: :nono: :nono: more artificiaty. I am now Free Divine. My Soul is free, and now everything about me is Naturely. It is our Divine Aura that should attract.
Is beauty in the eyes of the beholder, or is beauty in the eyes of the Divine Soul?
SOjourner truth: AIN'T I A WOMAN
IsIs: AIN'T I A NATURAL WOMAN
What we need to be focus on NOW is returning to our Divine right mind-set.
Here is loving you/Afrika.

That's what's so ironic, sista spicy. Women spend all this money on makeup to put color on their eyelids but if ur born with color it's seen as a flaw. Like the white girls that burn themselves half to death trying to get the tan I was born with then want to look down on me for being dark. Crazy.
river 05-17-2007, 01:18 AM Queen Goddess Auset,
Oh fake nails! Don't talk to me. I tried them in my early twenties. They were beautiful, long, man traps. Then I had to use the bathroom and couldn't unzip my pants. And when they broke off. talk about PAIN!!!!!! It felt like my whole finger had come off. I wouldn't be twenty again for love or money.
AmberGoldDust 06-10-2007, 07:00 PM There's no harm in wearing makeup & no shame in my game. It doesn't mean you have to use the whole 9 yards, I know I don't. I do wear foundation during the fall/winter months & powder-foundation during spring/summer months. I always wear lipstick & lipgloss, sometimes mascara, & eyeshadow only if going out for the evening. I'm not into wearing weaves. And guess what, the men love it, that's right, they love it! Men have always been visual creatures, & makeup if worn correctly enhances your own beauty. I'm a girly-girl, & men love pretty, feminine looking women & I see nothing wrong with that. You'd be surprised how just wearing lipstick alone can enhance your beauty.

That's the difference. We are not girls. We ar women and we don't want men who want girls either./.
We are not about trying to be what men want or love. We are about being who we are and that is what the kind of men we want love. No man loves something that has to come off every night. Or do you sleep in it?
A lot of the make up has msg hidden in it. It gets into the digestive system when lipstick comes off on your food. If you wipe your mouth off before you bite intoa sandwich then does your man love you when you are eating? Make up causes the skin to age prematurely.
How often have you wanted to buy something or do something but could not because of money. Think maybe you could have had that money if it had not been spent on make-up. How often have you wanted to do something or go somewhere but could not because of time? Think maybe you could have had the time if you did not spend it putting on and taking off make-up, not to mention the time it takes to clean out your purse after the powder foundation spills in it.
Goddess Auset333 06-11-2007, 01:54 AM Beloved Ones:
We are what we eat, and we are what we Think, and if we Think we are not that we are not, we are not.
Many look at Denzel Washington and Obama wives, as Womb-genders (females) who are not as the european say beautiful/pretty. Fo those who look at the outer will never see the true Divineness Thinking Queen goddesses they are. These are true Thinking men who attracted True Thinking Womb-Genders, the type of Womb-genders true men can trust with their deepest darkest secrets and their Kingdom/fortune. Womb-genders they cn trust when they are out of each others sight. Womb-genders who they can trust to raise their children in the right way.
I listen to Dr. Frances Welsing last week, and she said that there is no time for hip hopping, bopping, fun and games, and I add artificialities.
In the military basic training the instructors told the females who put on make-up that this was not a pretty military.
We must not forget that the Black life is in A War to save our lives. We are in Basic training.
For the true Womb-gender Revolutionist, there is no time to focus on some of the issues we focus on. Any off focusing can cost our lives and other warriors lives in a war, and in this case focusing too much on the outer us, when we should be focused on the Inner us, the inner makeup called Divine/Grace.
I heard a speaker say once, that when he met his first wife she had a coke cola shape body and that was all. He woke up one morning and realized he did even like her. He said he is a business man and he later married a smart womb-gender. Someone who can speak intelligently about all subjects before their head hit the pillow, and after their head was off the pillow.
I am here to tell us that males are indeed visual, and if we only knew what SOME males think when they see Lipstick and especially RED lipstick on us, we would slap their faces. If we are not selling anything, we need to take down ALL the For Sale Signs. Go Out of the Business of adding artificialities to us to attract a male, that may only be our lives for a hot minute, because the Hunt in Most male does not stop with us. I bow to the brothers and sisters who have themselves together. A real Thinking male needs a real thinking womb-gender, and vice versa.
When we Know Thyself As Divine Souls, we need not focus on anything outside of that because we are already IT (Divine), because we are Divine Thinkers, and Pretty and Beauty is wrapped up in the DIVINE.
Chris Rock said We Lie:
1. We wear high heels, and we know we are not that tall. We lie.
2. We wear weaves, and know that is not the length of our hair. We lie
3. We wear all that make-up, and that is not our true face. We lie.
Same for all artificialities.
I add, we say we are afrikan-americans vice Afrikans living in america. We lie.
Nature say We Lie.
The Universe say We Lie.
We say that the IT (Intelligent Information) Reveler some call God is a lie when we rearrange what we originally came into this world as, providing it is not for medical reasons.
A Divine people are Natural people, one with the Universe and Nature that feeds us the energy, power, and Spirit.
The Spirit of Nature leads and guides us. BE Natural.

IfUComeSoftly 06-11-2007, 01:58 AM yep... cause that's me everyday....
however... i love me some heels... gives me a mean strut...
Goddess Auset333 06-11-2007, 02:18 AM Precious IFU:
I overstand where you are at precious.
The last time I wore High heels was back in 1998, and they were some pretty RED High heels. I was vacationing in Queens New York, and I was at the Rochdale Shopping Mall with my cousin, the day after my mother died.
There were several holes immediately off the side walk in front of the mall and I stepped into one the holes, Trauma Center I went, Physical therapy for two weeks, back brace, neck brace, medication, bed rest, etc, while vacationing.
This is when I start receiving the revelation that the heels must go.
When we wear heels, and when we get older, there is a price our body will pay for doing so.
You see precious we are suppose to always operate in harmony, order and balance both Physically and Divinely Spiritually.
Many of our female problems we have later on can be traced back to artificialities.
If something is going to jepordize my health, i am not doing it.
Our strut/walk should be a Divine strut/walk...healthy strut that will prevent us from all kinds of ruts.
We must maintain being ROOTED AND GROUNDED BOTH PHYSICALLY AND SPIRITUALLY.

Goddess Auset333 06-11-2007, 03:05 PM UM! I am curious as to what the Physically blind Womb-genders, those who operate through INNER-Sight/INNER-Focus, have to say about whether she is european beautiful/pretty, without the artificialities.
We can learn a lot from the Physically blind.

Goddess Auset333 06-11-2007, 03:18 PM We are Divine when we have the Inner Makeup, some call Grace, and I call Divine which is the highest order of attributes/being.

You know your comment "we are not trying to be what men want or love" is as false & misleading as they come. If you're not trying to be what men love, are you trying to be what women love? Do you claim not to want the affection of a man? It is clear to me why so many black women are single, one of our major hangups is "accept me as I am", well that is all fine & good, & yes we all want to be accepted for our inner spirit but face the facts if he isn't attracted to your outter self he's never going to know your inner self, now am I right or wrong? Don't live in denial, looks do count, doesn't mean you've got to be a beauty queen but it does mean you must be attractive or no one will look your way. Looking plain & homely is fine if you're comfortable with it, but just as the job market is tight so is the selection of decent men to chose from, lots of competition out there. You've got to get his attention 1st before you can wow him with your inner beauty. And again I said I don't wear a full fledge face of makeup, just enough to enhance my looks, that's all it takes. And I don't use cheap makeup like Fashion Fair & drug store brands, I go for the good stuff like Christian Dior & Lancome. I've never had any illnesses yet from wearing it & since I'm still here kicking it with you guess I'll live to see another day. Oh & btw I can afford it, so it doesn't strain my purse. Now I've got a husband & have had him for many years, good luck to you in getting yours.
Jaisolovely 06-19-2007, 08:49 PM I have never been a fan of make-up and now I am taking the time to grow my hair out naturally, thanks to your threads here on destee!!
And its too hot for wigs period!!
I am becoming more aware of my beauty. Before I knew but I didn't believe that I was beautiful. I guess recieveing compliments just wasnt enough. It's true when they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder because it mattered how I felt about my outer self. But yea I only wear lotion on my face. :bellyd:
My skin needs to breathe.

Netique 06-21-2007, 04:09 AM I don't wear make up. I mean, I tried it when I was much younger but it didn't suit me. I don't have the time for that. Besides, I find them to be 'itchy'.
I don't wear wigs either. I braided my hair for the first time years ago but my head felt so heavy, I took them off the next day.
I am pretty without all these 'extra girly things' ...
I am not saying that you have to be 100 % natural, not at all. I personally don't have the time for these sort of things, besides, I don't like them.
IntelligentNoir 10-07-2007, 05:59 PM No, Im not pretty. Not in the least. And yes, I use make-up to enhance what other women were blessed with from the womb. Do I have low self esteem? Nah...I just realize life does not grant us an even playing field, and sometimes, just sometimes you have to do what you have to do to make it so.
BlackMamba 10-08-2007, 12:04 AM I havent worn make up since I was 12 and "playing around". My grandmother told me back then that Black women have a natural beauty that doesnt require make up and make up only assists you in looking old.
So, I stopped wearing it, except for my clear or neutral lip gloss. Also, from time to time, I wear individual lashes. Other than that, I just wash, moisturize and keep it moving.
Goddess Auset333 10-08-2007, 12:41 AM Beloved Queen goddess Netique and other like minds.
I bow and salute you all decision to be Natural.
Everyone has the right to choose to be or not to be. What is Divinely right is the best choice.

Artificial
http://i24.tinypic.com/xbizbl.jpg
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Artificial refers to something which is not natural. Its original sense, related to artifact and artifice, refers to a product of human endeavor; a more English synonym is man-made. It is also used, however, to mean false, a substitute for the real thing.

Law Dictionary and pronunciation-Human being is a Monster. The Human being is Master of lies and deception.
I am honoring myself as I am freeing my self from Artificialities, and the goal is ZERO Tolerance for Artificialities.
When we are striving to towards our Real Natural Divine Utopia mind-set, there is no room for artificiality.
There is nothing natural about artificiality. Artificialites are Entrapments, lies and deception..
Lets observe those who wear the subliminal seduction artificialities entrapments conduct and behavior. Their aura is usually seductive, and appear to be happy (temporal). Now when they take the entrapments off, they from what I have seen and experienced is not the same face/Aura.
When I wore make up, I saw me in a different light and so did others. My Eyes and the reddest Lip Stick I could find was the most noticeable by male. I was always told by males how beautiful my lips were. When I learned the deeper meaning of what they were saying, I never wore the lipstick again.
When I did not have make-up on, I would not go outside to the store or anywhere without it. Before putting on make up, having my natural face, I did not feel what is called pretty/beautiful, not knowing then, that the True beauty/prettiness is within my Divine Soul-Mind.
Now I do not wear lipstick anymore, I am asked what color lipstick I am wearing, and I tell people I am wearing Nubian Afrikan lip stick (natural).
When we are operating in our Divine mind set, we are more than Just beautiful/pretty (european terminology). We are becoming all that and then some, because we are Divine Thinkers, and real Divine Thinking males prefer Real Thinking females vice a made up one. Notice I said Real Thinking Male.
Why does a male need artificialities to be turn on to us? We are what we think. Why does a female need artificiality to get a male turned on? Is this an artificiality mind-set? After they have sweated on and between the sheet it all comes off, unless the make up they make now is permanent, that may not come off, but the mind is still off.
When we wear entrapments we better be careful of what we may catch, because there are all types of perverts out there who are not interested in the color of the lips stick, and visual males know what I am talking about.
It is Harmony, Order, Balance, when we find Divine real natural Black males and womb-genders (females).
Our Black lives is in a war, and we do not have time for all this war paint. There is nothing more frighten to the enemies than when we are in our
Natural everything. We are telling them we are not buying and wearing their products. The enemies will not know what to make of us, because being in our natural state of being, means we can not be manipulate and control to buy their products which is more money in our pockets. We have the empower to destroy the manmade enemies artificialities, the lies and deception, we live in an put on us, and yet we do not know how to use that empowerment. Confuse the enemies and be natural with no residual on us that identifies us with.
When we look back on all that money we spent on make up, we could have used that money to support one child in Afrika/Diaspora, and perhaps more. We could have used that money to take a musical instrument class. We could have used that money to take sewing lessons to make our own afrocentric clothes or any other type of clothing. We could have used that money to take Martial Arts lessons, Yoga Lessons, those exercises that helps to bring Harmony, Order, and Balance within.
How many males have seen their own mothers, grandmothers, sisters with their natural faces. Are they unattractive/Divine looking? So much is thrown in the Black males face, and I am sensing the Black males, the ones I interviewed is getting tired of seeing so much artificiality every where he turns. Let the white females and others keep this toy (Cosmetic). It is time the Black womb genders (females) show our people what we have not been and seen in along time, and that is Our Divine Natural state of life-living.
Chris Rock:
Is that your natural hair?
if not, you lie
When wearing heels, are we that tall. NO
We lie
I add: Is the make up we wearing showing the real face/ NO. We lie.
Is those nails our own nails. NO
We lie
Is that mind-set we use to do artificial things, and think out of our Divine once right mind is our original Mind-set? NO
we lie
All artificialities cause us to be lairs and deceivers, and many of us wants to be like the white females. Bring our Natural original selves back and perhaps many of the black males may come back home to us, because some of them are truly gone and will not return after being with a white female. Win some , lose some. Oh well. So be It. Lets do what we know is Divinely right to win the few we can. A few is better than none at all.
I know that the less artificial, I am more inner-lighten with knowledge, understanding/over standing and wisdom, which allows me to see Truth/reality.
The energy from the SUN needs to connect to our Natural hair. The Sun needs to connect through our natural finger tips. The more artificial we are with out body the more we are disconnected from Universe and Nature, and who does not desire to be connected with Universe and Nature is foolish.
There is a saying cleanliness Is next to Godliness. What is clean about Artificialness? We wear make up and do not even question the ingredients in what we are wearing. SAD. I would love to have some of the money Ignorance made. Then again, I am content with the wealth within, that money can not buy, and that is the wealth of knowledge, understanding/over standing of artificialities, and how it has damaged people.
When someone tells us we will look better if we had make up on, they do not see the inner beauty within. Insight. Not Outsight.
When we are faking the outside of us, how much of the inside of us is a fake too. The quality of our mind-set ( inner) us will reveal the outer us.
Harmful Cosmetic Additiveshttp://www.aboutorganics.co.uk/organic_home/harmful_cosmetic_ingredients.htm
Who ever told us we are not pretty/beautiful without make up is a liar and a deceiver, and the Human Being mind told us that lie and we accepted it as Truth. Is it self-hatred to conceal that which is real?
When we are unaware of Truth, a Lie will appear as Truth (OSIRIS).
Black Womb genders (females) when are we going to learn to be different in every way from others?

pdiane 10-08-2007, 12:45 PM I am guilty, I needs my lipstick!
. Other than that I love they way I look. I am in my fifties, I feel good and I look good. I am all natural and is so freeing. Oh, by the way, I buy organic lipstick.
When I am in Africa, the sisters from Senegal are made up like dolls, not to mention the lightening of their skin with chemicals and the constant perming of their hair. They think I am Rasta, because I have locks, who smokes reefer. It is so sad and ignorant. I few are catching on, but it is a slow process. They are trying to imitate the french women on television and it is so sad. They are naturally beautiful, but they don't even know it.
I blame the men for that. They need to tell their women they do not need all that weeve and make up and chemicals, they are beautiful they way they are. One would make a killing over there if they opened up natural hair salons.
I am so happy to be free and me.
Goddess Auset333 10-08-2007, 01:23 PM Beloved Queen goddess Pdiane:
I am joyful to hear you are like me 99.9 percent free from artificialities.
Remember you already have those Divine Afrikan Nubian lips.
As for blaming the males. No Precious.
When we are Free thinkers, lien holders of our own conscious, non conformist to that which we know is wrong, we Think for ourselves. To say the males are the blame is saying they control those womb-genders (females) Mind-thoughts. It is a terrible sickness to allow others to think for us, and to live an unexamined life.
If only the Black womb-genders (females) knew who she really is and the Power in her, she will be able to Change this entire World.
The Blame games is over Precious Pdiane. It becomes an excuse to not do what we should know to do.
If I have to fake it like many WG's do, to keep a male around, I am not being true to myself.

pdiane 10-11-2007, 10:43 AM True that my sister. We here in amrerikkka, have many choices. That is to be free to be. We can go to school and pursue our careers. We perfer to be with men because we are natural women. But if the right man who values our worth does not come into our lives we are more than willing make it on our own. They are not to end all to us.
Unfortunately, the culture in Afraka is much different. Women are extremely dependent on their men. They are the basically the bread winners and supports and have too much control over the women, thus, the women for whatever reason feel that they have to please their men by looking artificially beautiful. I say that because they are naturally beautiful. If their men told them that they were naturally beautiful, they do not need chemicals on their bodies, the women would listen.
Remember, also, they live in polygomous societies. This is another vulgar way of competing with one another, while the men sit back like they are the kings. It makes me ill.
Unfortunately, it is a whole different paradigm over there. But, times, they are a changin!!!
Goddess Auset333 10-11-2007, 03:40 PM Beloved Qg Pdaine:
Thank you for sharing precious One.
I love going beyond the resarch of what is and seeing the reverse side of what is.
Pdaine: If their men told them that they were naturally beautiful, they do not need chemicals on their bodies, the women would listen.
Precious lets look at this the Divine real way. Many of us are not taught during earliy child hood development that which we need to know to keep us from all low self esteem, and seeking others for validation of who we are. Who Are we in our own Eye-Soul-Mind.
It is the womb genders (females) who must dig dig dig within for the Divine Diamond within her, she is, and she tell herself she is naturally Divine.
We also get stuck on this european words beauty, pretty, gorgeous, and we never embrass the word Divine. It is knowing that which is Diivne that reveals to us what is and what is not.
It is a Sickness to desire to look like someone else and constantly seeking validation form others to tell us who we are that we should already know when we are striving towards our Divine Mind-set. To publickly make such a statement about looking like someone else, reveals the quality of our mind-set.
When we are striving towards our Divine mind-set it will be revealed to us that we are part of Universe/Nature, our True and real validation, and there is nothing on earth (pretty, beauty, gorgegous) than can Trump the Universe and Nature in us. Its Cosmic.
May we all come to Know what Divine means, and we all Be It.
Universe:SuN030: me:SuN030: Nature :SuN030:
pdiane 10-11-2007, 03:52 PM Again, I cannot agree with you more. When I move to Afraka I will share this beautiful concept of Divinity with my sisters. They don't have a clue. :SuN008:
Peace and love to you. :hearts4:

pdiane - please be careful not to sweep all Africans with the same brush. What you have described above fits many cultures - societies - communities - some to be found in your own back yard.
The Diversity in Africa is overwhelming and if you are going to speak with disdain about a cultural aspect of Africa, try to be a little less.. all encompassing.
Goddess Auset333 10-11-2007, 04:40 PM Beloved Queen goddess Pdiane::grouphug:
That is a Divine (god-like) statement and precious one, learn all you can about that which is Divine. I am so proud of you.   Your statement and acting on your statement is healing liberation/salvation for self and our people. Go forth Qg Liberator Pdiane:bowdown:  :bowdown:the Cosmic Universe/Nature, our Divine Ancient Ancestors will be with you all always. That forces that causes others to bow down, flee, shut up or all three in the presence of that which is Divine.
Here is some hugs :grouphug: for being a willing Vessel for that which is Divinely right.:hearts4: :hearts4: :hearts4:
The majority of the Black Afrikan womb-genders (females) WG's is clueless as to who she is, and once she know who she is, it is On. Hell will freeze in her Divine presence.
If the black Afrikan WG'S only knew her Divine self, we would not be where we are to day.

Zullie, you are so right. I cannot clump all Afrakan women in one category. I did see some natural liberated sisters in Senegal. My apology. There is just not enough, but it is getting better.
Please however don't consider that I have disdain for Afrakan culture. Fact of the matter is that if our brothers and sisters actually took hold of true Afrakan culture, we would not be having this conversation. Let me speak for Senegal. Although they are very much are into many aspects of their culture, islam has taken hold to the point the men are way too domineering and abusive, thus causing the self-esteem of women there to be pretty low. Wearing make up, weeve, coloring their skin to be lighter is way too predominate. If I see a "Naturally Divine Looking Woman "there, I am in shock.
Speaking of Afrakan culture. When you look at women of particularly of Ancient Afraka, they have always adorned themselves, be it scaring, eye makeup, wigs, putting plates in their ears and lips, coloring their hair red with the earth. No way would they think they are not Divine. It was basically in matirachal societies that this adornment was done.
If you ask them, they probalby would tell us they were being natural. Visit your museums that have our ancient artifacts, here in the Boston at the MFA, the nubian exhibits displays blue wigs, eye makeup, gold nails, etc. So it may depend on the era, and the mind set of that era.
Are we actually emulating our ancestors by wearing makeup and wigs, or white women?
Let me think about that?
Peace and love.

symbolic adornments - rich in their significance - I think culture, not vanity, were the main drivers (and still are in many places) of 'Ancient' Africa. This western thing we see now - ugh...

"The earliest historical record of makeup comes from the 1st Dynasty of Egypt (c.3100-2907 BC)...
Women wore white lead and chalk on their faces in Greco-Roman society. Persian women used henna dyes to stain their hair and faces with the belief that these dyes enabled them to summon the majesty of the earth.
During the European middle ages, pale skin was a sign of wealth. Sixth century women sought drastic measures to achieve that look by bleeding themselves, although, in contrast, Spanish prostitutes wore pink makeup. Thirteenth century affluent women donned pink lipstick as proof they could afford synthetic makeup.
During the Italian Renaissance, lead pain was used to lighten the face, which was very damaging to the wearer. Aqua Toffana was a popular face powder named for its creator, Signora Toffana. Made from arsenic, Signora Toffana instructed her rich clientele to apply the makeup only when their husbands were around. It's interesting to note that Tofana was executed some six hundred dead husbands later. (eta: haha!)
Cosmetics were seen as a health threat in Elizabethan England, although women wore egg whites over their faces for a glazed look.
During the reign of Charles II, heavy makeup began to surface as a means to contradict the pallor from being inside due to illness epidemics.
During the French Restoration in the 18th century, red rouge and lipstick were used to give the impression of a healthy, fun-loving spirit."

Interesting! I hope to one day study aspects of this in detail. African adornments - 'make up', roots/origins.
Although I can count the times I've worn makeup on one hand, I can't claim it was a concious decision... I just never got around to it ;)
phynxofkmt 02-06-2008, 02:42 AM i don't wear makeup at home, but if I'm going to work or to a meeting I will make sure my dark circles are covered and my skin tone is even. I've learned that a lymph drainage massage which I can do myself helps the circles/bags but they're still not what i'd like em to be. My man sees me without makeup and with my hair natural and says I'm sweetness. Wearing my hair natural involves the right hair setting, a low hair blower to puff up the curls and a good humid temperature so they don't frizz. I like to go natural with my hair sometimes, but then other times I take a hot iron and pull the curls out.
I kind of have a mixed girl complex, I don't think I'm nearly as attractive as darker skinned sisters who's complexions are usually perfect and have beautiful red/gold tones and my hair don't kink right, it's just thick and tempermental. I don't weave /wig or have anything on me that's misleading whatcha see is whatcha get (except my hair color cuz I greyed early!)
I'm happy with what i got though, cuz I'm not disfigured, and I got all my body parts so amen to that.
Bootzey 02-27-2008, 11:12 AM I'm in the NGE and makeup and perms are prohibited, weaves aren't. When I decided to wear my natural hair out; a friend of mine said that she wouldn't be caught in public with me. The thing that killed me was she is 600lbs and rides around in one of those motorized chairs, but I would emabarras her with my neat natural hair. Yeah, right.
Zulile 02-27-2008, 01:43 PM  @ Bootzey
Welcome to Destee, Sista!
As an earlier post will attest - my hair I was all natural until a fiasco where curiosity got the better of me about a year ago and I flattened it all... smh... "I" didnt want to be seen in public with myself! but thankfully that horrid adventure is over and I'm back to my afro. I've never done the make-up thing.. I didnt avoid it on purpose, nor do I dislike it - it was simply not.. my thing.
Make yourself at home - I look forward to reading more of your posts :)
jamesfrmphilly 02-27-2008, 02:26 PM i have never wore no makeup, weave or perm and i have done OK in life. :qqb003:
Zulile 02-27-2008, 02:43 PM james - if you're a woman I'd have to ask - on what planet?

pamela b 03-20-2008, 12:42 AM :qqb018: The main problem with black women today, is that somewhere along the way we were made to believe that we were not as beautiful as white women, and since that time we have been FORCING IT trying to look like them, be super thin like them, basically become them because alot our men turn to them, the forbidden fruit. I will persoanlly don on some hair for added thickness, and wear at least 18 lbs. of colorful make up to go to an event, but, when it all washes off in the shower, i'm so fine i can hardly stand to look at myself. Some people call this vain, i call it appreciating, and accentuating my beautiful caramel completion. With or without the gloss, Im still fine. So with that said, a black woman was God's most perfect package
nicely aged, and better with time.
(make up not included....
pamela b 03-20-2008, 12:45 AM LOL.....James :10900:
$$RICH$$ 03-25-2008, 09:07 PM All women of color is beautiful without the eye shadow and cheek blush
lipstick and other war paints man made face base ...just my 2 cents
Auroraflower 04-12-2008, 02:38 PM Yes you are lady,s ....:10900:

Cause when God made you he said .....
Now finished...
this is beautifull!:10900:
Bootzey 04-30-2008, 05:27 PM I gave up makeup as a requirement for entry into a specific lifestyle. At first there was fear and trepidation, but now only joy and enlightenment. I'm not ashamed of my natural appearance and I don't feel like I have to buy into the cultural colonialism that says women must wear makepu.
BallOfConfusion 04-30-2008, 07:20 PM Is it a bad thing to think that you aren't pretty if you don't have these things? I wear a lil bit of make-up just to cover up my acne, but I have the same face. The makeup only helps to enhance the beauty that I have. I get my hair permed, like once every two three months-cause I'm not into rockin the afro most of the time. Although I have done it, especially in summer.
Nubian~Queen 05-08-2008, 07:36 PM Too be honest i think that everyone can do it, a big part of it is projecting the confidence to know you look good regardless. This confidence makes those who look at you see that confidence radiate and be sexy, attractive.
I personally am not a make up fan, only really putting lipgloss and eyeliner, eyeshadow on the odd occasion.
And have never had a wig or weave. Ima proud nappy woman!
PLATINUMILLITY1 05-08-2008, 08:50 PM Looking Pretty and Taking care of your self does not mean Putting on a Mask....
When you put on a mask....arent you Technically being Fake?
And fake people are....fake.
I just really detest makup.
"Just a Little Extra of This and...Perfect!" I dont think so...
Anybody can be beautiful, but it hinestly comes from within.....not from Foundation.........Make-Up
