Racial Profiling - Should it be against the law?

I am so surprised! Where have I been, living under a rock or something?? Where in the world did I get the idea that racial profiling was in fact, against the law??!!! Wow ... I just read the article below, only to find out that it is perfectly legal to single out suspects based on skin color or other racial identifiers.

Justices reject appeal of case raising racial profiling claims (http://www.nandotimes.com/nation/story/114104p-1259633c.html)

I'm sure it serves some good purpose, otherwise it would not be used (right?).

Do you think racial profiling should be against the law?

Oh really Kemetstry? Okay. I didn't know. After reading that article, I thought it was not a law anywhere. Do you know which states? Obviously NY is not one of them, since that is where these young men (in the article) were when targeted.

I read the article and am adding an additional link to it
here, so we can highlight its title:

Is Jim Crow Justice Alive and Well in America Today? (http://www.aclu.org/profiling/index.html)

I also read the following article, Feingold, Conyers urge airlines to end racial profiling (http://www.nj.com/newsflash/index.ssf?/cgi-free/getstory_ssf.cgi?g6766_BC_MI--Feingold-RacialPr&&news&newsflash-financial), where Senator Russ Feingold said,

"Let's face it, when Tim McVeigh blew up the federal building in Oklahoma City, we didn't start pulling over everybody that was blonde and had a crewcut. That isn't logical and it isn't fair."
