View Full Version : Geeks : how do i change file exstensions? jamesfrmphilly 05-10-2006, 11:15 AM GIF to JPEG or back? i got some files with bad extensions and i want to correct the extensions and use them. Slowly 05-10-2006, 01:16 PM Sometimes, you just change the name yourself. Ex: if the file reads james.gif and you want it to read james.jpeg, just use the rename function by right-clicking the file. If Windows don't like this conversion it will advise you. Also Microsoft has another method here. If none of these things work, try going to www.zdnet.com and search for some conversion software. A lot of the software here is free, click the license dropdown window and select free, but watch out. Some of the free software requires you to become a P2P node,(that means if others need the software, that actually get it from your pc), or its chock full of spyware. I just use it and delete all their junk later. A pain but free is free. A note of caution. DO NOT PRACTICE ON YOUR ORIGINAL FILES. COPY AND PASTE THEM TO ANOTHER FOLDER. And practice on the copied folder. PurpleMoons 05-22-2006, 01:02 PM Question? Couldn't he open the file in MS office, hit the save as and change the file ext. type there? jamesfrmphilly 05-22-2006, 03:16 PM i managed to show the file extensions and then i was able to change it.
