View Full Version : Black People : Chess anyone?
kemetkind 03-22-2006, 09:06 AM I've seen several brothers mention their mastery of the game in threads recently, and someone said there may be built-in functionality to host a Chess board in the forum software.
If this is true, what are the thoughts on opening this up?

You know I think one of the other members mentioned you had a chess module...may have been Keita.
If not there are a few open source decent ones that are more like correspondence chess...might be a good fit for destee.com (one person could have several games going at a time and the pace could be determined by participants).
Go here for a demo of an opensource php chess server mocked up with a header to make it appear integrated with a vbulletin board :
http://www.onlinedebate.net/chess/index.php
login: demo
pwd: pass
You can follow the links out to the developer's site "LGames" to download the chess server or get it from sourceforge (OCC is the name).
http://lgames.sourceforge.net/
It seems pretty decent to play around with for low-volume premium member only activity (no idea how it scales, but since it runs on a text db and not mysql probably not much).
It has scoreboard/rating system for the community, PGN output, etc (chess folk know what that is).
other free chess servers:
webchess
http://www.iohelix.com/misc/webchess.zip.
and the most polished one is...
http://www.phpchess.com/index-2.html
but those two may be more difficult to integrate.
I'd have to look around to see if there are any native vbb chess modules....
Sefirot 04-07-2006, 12:43 PM Too late to get on the list?
oldsoul 04-21-2006, 02:46 PM I haven't played regularly for some years, but I still love playing Black moves first!

AHMOSE 01-09-2007, 09:06 PM Its been a long time since I have been back home which explains how I missed this thread. Im up for a game of chess as well.
I recently started playing again because I'm teaching my son. I don't know why I ever stopped.
I'm very rusty.
