cocobutterskyn 09-18-2001, 03:22 PM We have been called to war as, Nigras/Nigros, Colors, Blacks, African-Americans. Each time proudly going to war to fight for our country, only to return to discrimination and countless other racial conditions.
Why do African-Americans continue to stand with/support and die for a Nation that refuses to treat them with respect and equality?
Do you believe this is about us(African-Americans)?

shaneak 09-18-2001, 03:35 PM Born and raised in America.. I have no other country so if you cannot call America your home.. Then what can you call your home? I've realized since this incident how greatful i am just to be an American. We lack for nothing and are allowed to gain what so ever we choose. Many of us fail to take control of what is offered to us and others fall do to the negativity being put out by so many of our "fellow" Americans. Coco: You are right.. we do need to work on our country. But right now.. we must protect our country...so that our people can have a home to come back to..
You know its funny though.. Its kind of like asking a woman who gets her behind beat by her husband every night.. why is she going to stand up for him during the day only to go home and get her behind beat by him during the night. Our mentals.. are deadly yet weak...
epiphany 09-19-2001, 11:29 AM Maybe it is an allegiance, to the African Americans who have fought before us, in Vietnam, World War 2, or even as far back as the Famous Buffalo Soldiers, I can't say. But each war has claim the life of a family member of mine. My uncle never recovered when he came back from the Vietnam war and was found dead from a drug overdose in 1978. My cousin still wakes up with nightmares and finds it hard to speak of the atrocities that he witness with out becoming emotional. I have 3 sons and I dread the talk of war, because I don't want my sons life at risk,(now some may say that it is to protect our country from foreign invasion and it is the patriotic duty) I am a mother and I don't think that far ahead ,only the possibility of losing my sons. There are some parents whom already fight to protect thier sons from a war right in their own neighborhood, and that is already some folks reality.
Pray for peace and understanding.....

Destee 10-03-2001, 08:37 PM Hi Coco,
I think many African Americans are dealing with this, wanting to stand Proud and Tall, American and Patriotric. Wanting to believe that America loves us, that we are united and being embraced as her own. Unfortunately, history (past & present) makes it hard for us to believe that.
I liken it to an abused child (though I was not an abused child and am only guessing here), similar to Shaneak's analogy above. But the abused child loves its parent, wants to respect, obey, be nurtured, protected, wants to believe ... yet the child recoils every time the parent reaches for it ... afraid they're going to be beat again.
I read an article featuring the words of Fredrick Douglas that spoke to this very issue. Based on that article, things are no different now than then. I tried to find it before I started posting, but couldn't. I'll keep looking and perhaps I'll run into it soon. If so I'll share it.
I don't think this incident is about us, but we can't help but consider us ...

nexis5 10-04-2001, 10:21 AM I've been objecting to signing up for what many feel is a patriotic duty, "to their country", since highschool. This aint nothing new under the sun.
Just because I choose "not to", DOESNT make me un-patriotic. Just because my sentiments and opinions are more enhanced than pending then GLOBAL RACIAL PROFILING of bomb first, ask questions later, DOESNT make me un-AMERICAN.
I will even go further to say that QUESTIONING the actions of a status quo/consensus, who to some degree has been misinformed on the events of the day and have caught PROPAGANDA fever,
DOESNT make me less of a AMERICAN.
It makes me more of a AMERICAN.
nexis5 10-04-2001, 10:30 AM I stand proud everyday I get up out of the bed with choice, consequence and conviction.
I dont need a national rally pep talk.
Make no mistake about it, national security goofed. All this stiring is making up for sleeping on the job.
At any rate, if propagandization of warm cosy feelings are needed(spend money), it truly indicates where a large percentage of AMERICAN population is at.
Negate the dirty.
shaneak 10-04-2001, 10:36 AM I caught some of that and i didn't.. What did you mean by the last 3 statements. I didn't understand...

nexis5 10-04-2001, 10:43 AM I will stand on an open HONEST discussion by spoke persons of U.S. foriegn policy and the factors in which create mistake and HATE. So far I've been getting it from alternative sources of media.
Fly the flag on that and with zeal baby! No propaganda.
nexis5 10-04-2001, 10:49 AM shaneak,
Stirring and sleeping.
Sleeping like a drunken giant. Intoxicated on the belief "I'm number one." burp
Stirring like honey bees. Faceless bear takes honey of national security.
shaneak 10-04-2001, 10:52 AM Okay... Now I get it... Thanks Nexis!! I appreciate the brake down...
nexis5 10-04-2001, 10:58 AM I'm not one to count or measure which tragedy is greater than another. I dont play that. History has had similar.
What doesnt go away easily is the daily tragedy and struggle for AFRICAN-AMERICAN people. I cant "negate the dirty" factors of covert racism.
A daily terrorist assault on our existence for just walking in the door.
A strange thing happened though....
The hyphens didnt matter for a couple of days afterwards.
Just the unescapable human conditions that all are effected by.
shaneak 10-04-2001, 11:05 AM they hyphen made a difference.. but then i don't really put much emphasis on the name... Also you mentioned "unescapable human conditions that alll are effected by"... i guess my question to that one is... Such as... meaning(what type of unescapable conditions that we as humans could, are and would be affected by.
nexis5 10-04-2001, 11:08 AM As BUSH spans the globe in the name of terrorism....
Will it include the bubble lipped constipated studio gangstas and video mafia dons being dumped into the minds of a pants sagging, doo-rag wearing, propaganda smoking youth?
Can WE stand for it?
nexis5 10-04-2001, 11:16 AM Shaneak it is simple. Life and death.(human condition)
In between that time I could obsess and direct my attention to anything be it.... skin color, oppression, my next cold beer, a white dress marriage, a good black woman, rims of my car, credit rating, bin Laden, that sexy lady I gave my number to......
All of this doesnt rule us. Shouldnt rule us. Somehow it does. :D
shaneak 10-04-2001, 01:15 PM I can agree with that... but as far as proganda.. that is our nation.. from the roots up... right down to our history books.. Can we stand for that.. we have all these centuries.. rappers and weed addicts.. can we stand for it.. we have all these years. After the vietnam war... imaggine how high the drug abuse rate went up... in general.. imagine how high it is now... and marijuana.. thats not even an example for it has been the topic of discussion in office for years.. should we make it legal.. or shouldn't.. should we make it legal.. or shouldn't we.. I personally think this goes beyond our human condition.. I personally think.. they are ****ing wit our human condition.. I sure as hell don't go about my regular day as I did.. around the beginning of september. I mean i do the same thing.. i sure don't think totally the same way... Right now.. personally.. my only thought is.. am i going to live or die.. regardless of me moving ahead with my future as i planned before all this occured.. but thougts bring me to believe that i could die tomorrow.. and all president bush tells me.. is.. we are out for justice... and i personally don't even think they've secured our own home yet.... Personally I don't think our human condition rules.. us.. I think it simply guides us... in a direction that we so choose and each human being to take.. upon what they feel necessary to guide them in the direction to where they want to go.. be it to war to kick Bin Laden's ***.. or to pick up yo chic tonight to get some ***.... that doesn't rule us.. it guides us.. cause once the jobs is done... You will be on journey to the next one.. be it a lifetime.. or a moment...
nexis5 10-04-2001, 06:09 PM (((((((((((((((((((((((shaneak)))))))))))))))))))) )))))))))
Yes love its love. You can feel it.
Thanks!
shaneak 10-05-2001, 09:59 AM And i'm not up for adoption.. If that be the case.. I'll be a runaway Orphan.. trying to get back to the states!!! :D
cocobutterskyn 10-05-2001, 11:00 AM Shaneak,
I understand where you are coming from. Although I truly haven't experienced first hand the death and destruction like those living in New York and countries who's homes are bombed as a norm. I am thankful I live in the U.S and in Pittsburgh for that matter, due to the lesser terrorist impact. Some would say that sounds selfish, but no more selfish than being thankful for missing a flight that later crashed. However, I am unable to agree with, we lack for nothing. Our present situation proves we lack for many things. I admit somethings are better, just as some are worse. We have gain more privileges that allows us to obtain a better quality of living, better education, better housing, better jobs, nicer cars etc....But many of us fight to keep them everyday.....we have to work harder than other races at school and work. We have to be careful driving nice cars and we sometimes have to do flips to buy a house in a nice or some would say "white neighborhood" There are still places in the U.S where we aren't welcomed. There are still crosses being burnt.
U.S assist other countries, due to the mistreatment of their people. She has people being mistreated here in her own country, who need assistance. As far as being allowed to gain what so ever we choose.....I don't know about that. I'd say we've EARNED the right to choose. Protect our country, yes.... but afterwards... who will protect us from our country? We've done our patriotic duty, war after war after war...been there, done that. We're like a disposable Army, use then discard.
Destee,
African American standing Proud and Tall, American and Patriotric. That sounds so noble. But what's baffling to me, how it's so easy to do that? Even to jump at the chance to do it. Especially reflecting on history(past & present) yet it's so **** difficult to stand Proud and tall, American for your people.
Since the terriorist attacks there has been more black reporters, reporting, more black FBI spokesmen and an awful lot more talk about, we need to unite, to put race aside. There seems to be an OVER WILLINGNESS to include us. Why? Has anyone else noticed? On September 10th where was this OVER WILLINGNESS?. Is it wrong to want to share, yes I said SHARE! In this, as she's called THE LAND OF OPPORTUNTITY! Especially when most of her greatness was built by and with the blood, sweat and tears of our people.
I agree with yours and Shaneak's analogy. America and we have a very Dysfunctional relationship and the cycle continues, even with our continuous support and loyality.
My analogy.....Some of us have what Psychologists call, learned behavior. America(the world even) has been descriminating and racist against us FOREVER! and some of us have learned from their example. (Children of alcoholics have a greater chance of becoming alcoholics. Or the probability of an abused child becoming the abuser exist.) We have been abused and some of us have become abusers. I've heard some of us use racist terms such as, make them go back to their own country, sand n***ers, etc. That is sad to me....I would never want to afflict or wish anyone to be treated as we were and are. I feel the pain it causes and live the damage it does to a people.
Funny thing is, this is but a drop in the bucket, compared to what our ancestors lived through.
Scary thing is, if the law to abolish slavery were to be reversed.....I don't think we'd survive. Our minds, bodies and souls aren't as strong as our ancestors were. Not to mention, we nolonger accept the responsibility of being our brother's keeper.
Madd Sistahly Love:heart:
