A brother posted comments refering to WEB Dubois talented ten well I am not fond of that idea because it never was refined and defined properly by Dubois.

African secret socieities formed before European and secret societies exist all around the world in every culture. What is their purpose? Some many people are scarred to death of this idea of a secret society and not many AA's and Africans want to think about it.

First I will give an explaination of Secret Society and this will be the only time because it is a secret.

All goverments have a government that you can see and one that you dont see. All power rests behind the throne. Why? Because no one person can rule any large group he must delegate power and responsiblity to others. So who are they? They are the Nobles or Knights who dedicated themselves to maintaining the goverment of choice of their ancestors not the people. The Ancestors are the beings who once lived in flesh but have risen to God Status because of their contributions to the society. They either fostered a new way of life or brought about much healing and their names and deeds are kept alive to motivate and stir the society in the direction of their unfullfilled vision. The Ancestors speak to the ones who have genetically inherited their ways of altruism we all inheirted gifts from them. They guide us and move us through the ether of the unseen world and they are our eyes and ears of the unseen world. They helped us to reach our ultimate goal of enlightment which occurs in different stages. Governments guided by them are good governments and ones that are not are lost. I will explain this another time but it hardly needs explaintion to most of us.

Why secret if it's suppose to be for all? Because of Corruption you see power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Many didn't know that this knowledge came out of Africa where the first governments formed. You see because of the herd mentality that exists amongst the unenlightened the people are like sheep they need to be protected from certain crafty individuals who may rise up and encrouch upon the power of the legal authority. Their influence may be so great that removing them openly can stir martydom and eventual over throw of the legit government. So we secretly kill them or exile them to somewhere else. No one is above this we have even replaced kings who have come to the throne who refused follow the Ancestors
and were a threat to the society. As a Secret Society we uphold the unwritten higher spiritual laws, we uphold the traditions and spiritual practices of the Ancestors. Power without checks will eventually go unbalanced and fall into chaos. A central government most be maintained where all are free to grow into the light and all consesus groups are represented equally. This is the purpose of African Secret Societies.

The Societies members have always been the Elite and those who show consious purpose in life. Those with animals instincts and selfish and greedy motivates are not allowed into the society. There are tests and all times and different levels of secrecy. There is a council administrated by elders whom responsibility is to communitcate the will of the Ancestors and delegate powers to the members for filling out their guidance. Members are composed of many different facets of the society from craftsmen, priests, warriors, scholars, artists, sages and royalty. Members brought in are trained and given every assistance to succeed in life. Their schooling is paid for by the society and the are given help in anyway to help them maintain a living and when in need of aid. All members are considered guardians of the society as a whole they are knights charged with the duty of protecting the countries spiritual traditions, the people and diginataries. Members understand Karma and reincarnation and will gladly sacrifice their life for the continuation of the whole.

If we can build such a society then I promise that in a few generations we African people will be free and the world will be a better place for our great grand children.

Remember this in order to be victorious......

Greetings Elder Omowalejabeli,

It's incredible how you can always express so much wisdom in only a few words. I'm honored to be in your presence.

Peace,

There is already a powerful African Secret Society, the Reformed Ogboni Fraternity(not the traditional Ogboni council, though all of them are members of the ROF). The ROF have strongholds in Nigeria and Benin. They also have conclaves in London and are planning to establish their presence here the U.S. and as well as in the Caribbeans.

The ROF is "NOT a secret society" according to its own document. It is a fraternity by definition or a "fraternal organization".

Akilles asked a very good question, below is what ROF stands for:

What ROF stands for :
1. A. ROF is a way of life

B. ROF is a Fraternal organisation

C. It is not a religion but it is religious in character based on
the belief in the Fatherhood of God, Brotherhood of man and
the immortality of the soul.

D. it is not a secret society

E. It is a voluntary organisation which the interested join of their
own free will and accord

F. Religions and politics are not discussed in the proceedings

G. It teaches charity and chastity

H. It endeavours to make a good man a better one

I. Also its teachings are based on the GOLDEN RULE-
"Love your neighbour as you love yourself and do unto others
as you would wish they do unto you"

J. It teaches gratitude to God for his gracious and numerous
blessings.

K. It teaches kindness at home, honesty in business, courtesy in
society, fairness in work, pity and concern for the unfortunate,
resistance towards the wicked, help for the weak, forgiveness
for the penitent, love for one other and above all reverence
and LOVE for God.

So, the questions become these; If religion or politics cannot be discussed in the proceeding, why base the teachings on the Biblical Golden Rule, as quoted.

Why teach gratitude to God for his blessings?

Why teach kindness, etc...and LOVE for God?

Who is this God? Is it the God of the Bible or What?

This post does not require a response since Akilles is banned! Peace Family!

Introduction and origin.

Venerable Rev T.A.J Ogunbiyi CBE LTh founded the ROF INC on the 18th Dec 1918 at Obun Eko in Lagos Nigeria. The original name of the fraternity was EGBE "OGBONI ONIGBAGBO " which means in English language "OGBONI FRATERNITY OF THE CHRISTIANS". As time went on the founder considered it necessary to admit non-Christians, provided such entrants embrace a non-idolatrous believe in God.......

The first Iledi (Conclave) was instituted on December 18th 1914 and by May 29th 1942, 41 (forty one) Conclaves (Iledi) had been instituted across the country in Nigeria.

The fraternity became incorporated under the Lands (Perpetual Succession) Ordinance 1942 on the 17th day of June 1943. A certificate of incorporation was appropriately issued to that effect. The growth in the number of Conclaves Iledi) has been encouraging after the incorporation and consequently the noble institution now has about 740 conclaves located all over Nigeria with one in Cameroun and three in London. Arrangements are at advance stages to institute new conclaves in Italy, America, Brazil, and the West Indies.....

A bit of research into precolonial Africa by reading the works of, Cheik Anta Diop, Dr John Henrik Clarke, John Jackson, and Chancelor Williams, will give one the understanding that there were no elite in Africa, or in the cultiral tradirtions, and the similarity with European secret societies was only in name, also "Facing Mount Kenya"
by Jomo Kenyatta, one gets the clear picture that these so called secret societies were rites of passage facilitators and trainers, seperate ones for men and women as well as establishing paradigms of scholastic, and skills excellence, and community development fostered by peer presssure from each older age group of youth to the younger.
The real secrets were of a religious nature as well as instruction self defense and community defense.
To this day it would be almost impossible to get an African immigrant to talk about their traditional martial arts.
The peer pressure tiowards scholastic excellence should be stressed because for many our view of precolonial Africa is folks wearing grass skirts and living in thatched huts and villages, without formal schools and classrooms.
According to the Slave narratives written by "Family" that had been purchased by Quakers and then set free, school was mandatory for all children from 3 to 16 and homes were made not only of brick but of such masonry as to rival what is seen in Kemet.
Like the nose on the Sphinx, the Europeans destroyed that which could be left for future generations

The concept of peer pressure towards excellence is something they took from us during slavery and now we must make every effort to regain it.

the secret societies of today in the community are pawns for their chiefs and heads in Europe, and constantly fall off the square when it comes to uplifting or defending the community

From Jomo Kenyatta, one gets the clear picture that these so called “Secret African Societies” were for the “rites of passage” facilitators and trainers. Separate ones for men and women as well as for establishing paradigms of scholastic (knowledge), and skill excellence, toward community development, fostered by peer pressure from each older age group. For the education of youths to enter their rightful place in their communities.
The real secrets were of a religious nature (corpo fexado) as well as instructions on self defense and community defense.

If any one here is more interested in this, T.J Desch Obi has written a detailed account on these African societies and their establishment in the Americas. The title is “fighting for Honor. African secrete societies are not like the Euro-mans models for elitism, but to correct the imbalance of power. One can’t ever forget that most African communities were structured egalitarian.

I edited Ankhur's paragraph a little, for clarity. I hope you don’t mine.
