I and pretty soon I will .. but I have some unanswered questions..

My hair is naturally wavy and curly.. and is currently about shoulder length.. some people i've talked to said its best to start from scratch and to cut my hair short then get locs.. others say dont cut it just loc up what i already have i'm not sure what to do exactly..

I have a consultation is 2 weeks so maybe i'll find out then.. but those who have locs or is pretty knowledable.. help a sistah out..

I have locs, but to start I did have to cut my hair very short and start over.
I had to cut my hair short because my hair was still processed in the front and around my edges. Even though I had to cut my hair, I know plenty of people who didn't cut their hair at all and just started their locs from the hair they have. If your hair is indeed natural, I think it would be a waste of time cutting it short. but going to that consultation will clear up a lot more.

Hope I helped!!!

You have curly hair so it should be that hard to go natural.

I guess I got more info at my consultation..

When I wash and towel/air dry my hair it looks like the pics above.. When I blow dry it I have a fro.. I used to flat iron my hair all the time to str8en it.. I haven't str8en my hair in almost a year.. heat besides chemicals is the worst thing for hair.. I've learned this the hard way..

Sister Nubian, most sisters I know who have problems with their locs find a good Loctician to get them started...

Greetings little sistah...welcome to the boards...

my hair is really long and has a curly wavy texture to it... samoan style with afro thickness and such so I am not the expert you seek...

BUT... in the health and beauty forum you may find better assistance... we do have many members who have loc'd up and it is a beautiful thing, perhaps you will be better assisted there :read: :)

PEACE SISTER TRINITI:

Out of curiosity, is part of your heritage SAMOAN?

Never mind sis, I saw the answer to this Q in another thread.

You represent the best of both your Clans, both mentally, spiritually, and especially physically. :picture:

:) Yes brotha Samurai... My biological mother was half samoan half blak and my biological father was blak by way of mississippi, I was raised by very afrocentic island folks, physically I got the island women big legs and hips and my hair is a mix between the two...not thick enough to be all blak but not straight and curly enough to be all samoan. So I got a HUGE MASS of THICK WAVY/CURLY hair that makes for a heck of a morning untangling and braiding and whatnot lol :look:

But thank you for the compliments my brotha... my momma (birth mothers half sister) though she was straight island was EXTREMELY strict about my acknowledgement of my Afrikan blood. Her fear was that I may one day forget our ancestors and the blood that was shed on both our motherland and our islands to bring us thus far... I appreciate that more and more as I grow older

Thank you again brotha Sam  coming from you that is very humbling :grouphug:

 I do not have a phobia  lol well maybe a little one lol

I grew up in the shadow of a house full of brothas...they taught me to box, the beauty of the 89 cutlas and the 66 mustang, and even though my motha & grandmotha were on a strict "You-aint-leavin-till-you-cook-a-great-meal-in-my-kitchen-by-my-standards" types I was still very tomboy and very NOT camera friendly. So I spose thats where that comes from... :look: I just think some folks are made for spotlights and photos and such and some arent and I fall in the second half. :read:

anywho back to the original topic at hand... I really think sister that you will gain more 411 from the HEALTH/BEAUTY FORUM :)
