I've noticed that since Neo-Soul was born that alot of East Coast women have been going natural. Also, I see alot of black women in commercials with dred, twist, fros, whatever, I'm glad that more people are embracing there natural self.

But men, what do you prefer, the natural hair, of the silky bone straight hair?

NATURAL BLACK HAIR, PLEASE - UNLESS YOUR HAIR IS NATURALLY ANOTHER COLOR! Loc it, braid it, pull it back and brush it - even wear it short like a man... I don't care, so long as it is natural, and not chemically straightened and colored...

Peace!

I love a woman with natural hair as long as it's not "nappy".

And there is a difference between natural and nappy.

Natural may include dread locks, braids, even an combed-out Afro...

But nappy is when the hair is so short and tightly rolled in balls that it looks like pepple and you can see the scalp.

That's unaccepable in my opinion.

But fortunately I haven't met many women with hair like that naturally.

I think women's hair is just naturally softer than mens, because I met a few women from Sudan with truely "nappy" hair but it still was soft and tuffy.

Women with natural hair are more active and spontaneous and they aren't always crying about what they can or can't do for fear of messing up their hair.

Depends on WHERE the nappy is!

I love to get lost in the forest myself.......

As long as the bushes aren't so tough and wirey they block my entrance and scratch me all up.

I see you've jumped in feet first. I pray that you enjoy all that we have to offer here. I'm sure you will. :D

Don't forget to visit voicechat. You'll have a lot of fun there as well reading poetry, playing music and discussing current events, sharing thoughts and just rambling.

On the topic, I take it how a Sista gives it. However, I do feel a Sista with the natural hair. With a natural hair style comes a different temperatment. I like that. :D

Natural is always better IMO. Whether it's twists, braids, dreds or whatever, natural is better. When you think about it, putting your hair and scalp through the abuse of chemicals and such is really a turn-off. My preference is braids though. I love how braids look up close, it's a beautiful thing. :smooch:

A bald headed woman is exotic, but eventually that sh*t gets old.

I don't mind massaging a soft milk-dud head every once in a while, but I wouldn't take you nowhere in public.

However, shaving the nether region is fine.

...unless you've been mangled by 6 or 7 natural births and your "thang" is hanging lower than mine.

The problem actually starts when the hair starts to grow back and them hard little stubbles start to scratch a brutha up.

I've been with sistaz who thought they were being cute, but didn't know making love to them was like humping the driveway.

I go downtown and comeback looking like somebody been playing tic-tac-toe on my forehead.

as for myself, i use to perm my hair for a minute, but then it was thinnin out my hair, so i stopped and got it pressed. use to be every other week for a long time. now I only go on special occassions. all other times, i just wash and blowdry or air dry, and put a couple plaits in there and keep it moving! pressing and sweating @ the gym don't work well for me :)

Blackness movements have "Always" started in the Eastern part of the U.S., the reasons have to be studied, if that really matters. Any Black Afrikan in his right mind will prefer some one who looks like his own people, not some other people. What is silky straight? Ware in Afrika do we find Black people with so-called silky straight hair, unless it is a "Weave". Of corse, there are some exceptions, because of so-called race mixing, but that most times will produce still wavey to kinky hair. Unless one is refering to the pale faced Europian,...then that is a different subject. IN other words what do you want, a White woman or a Black woman?? The choice is in the eyes of the beholder.

I'm letting my afro grow. My hair doesn't come out when I wash it the way it does when I have a perm. I can put temporary locks (kinky twists) in my hair without having to use beeswax then the end of the twist will curl up. It curls that tight but is soft and springy. How can you not be proud of your hair? Who else has hair like ours?

I feel keeping ones hair natural is a statement of pride in terms of not bowing to the pressure of the majority in the west. I like natural hair all my sisters still have natural hair. However that said having natural hair does not make one a more conscious sister.

I don't see relaxing my hair as wanting to be white. I think that's a little bit harsh.

When a woman alters her appearance, it's normally a sign of flexibility. A hair weave, relaxer, and dye are not really permanent, since they can be grown out. My hair, in it's natural state is neither kinky or curly-"good", rather (Diana Ross) fluffy, in between. I opted for a mild children's relaxer, since MOST of the styles I prefer needed a straighter texture. I never once questioned my dedication to my heritage. However it is kinda crazy when a woman sits around the house with a super perm, blonde dyed hair with a weave, :tweety: bleached skin and light contacts. Other BW make these choices for corporate reasons, or to 'get ahead'. From what I see, the brothers have a preference for fuller straight hair, versus the ultra-straight look. Maybe this has something to do with the fact that so many BW(80%) go straight.

I agree with the flexiblity thing-- I think that if you (and I) questioned our cultural ties based on a hair style we'd be just as foolish as those who think Dredlocks make them more black or Blonde weaves and contacts make them more white.

If people are determining someone’s knowledge of self and consciousness based up the style of their hair, they need to see Dr. Naim Akbar

If we don't attack one another there will be no need to defend ourselves against ourselves.

To say it is a bad thing when a sista straightens her hair in an effort to look white is not the same as saying all sistas who straighten their hair are trying to look white. My baby sista's hair is curled so tight that Moses couldn't part it. With all that thick hair way down her back the hairdresser would charge my mother extra. So now as a teenager she perms it. Do you think I accuse her of trying to be white? Of course not.

But is this a thread about the motives of women who sraighten their hair or the beauty of women who don't?

If I can't be beautiful without thinking of others as ugly then there is no beauty in me.

I find consciousness is a very subjective state. I have a friend who perms her hair and you can see where it is broken off in the front. She is married to a white man as she herself explains it so that her children will have "good hair." Just when I am ready to dismiss her as a lost sista she starts in telling me about white people and their lack of protection against the sun, inferior culture and general disastrous legacy on every continent and island on this planet. I'm left not knowing what to think so I just say "well" and continue being her friend.

For sure one's attitude towards one's hair is one's attitude towards one's hair and not necessarily a signifier of consciousness. Still I love natural hair. My hair is like the woman who wears it: soft, bouyant and beautiful.

A good balance is cool

Hypothetically, we can reduce ourselves to animals and still have a mating standard and qualities that attract eachother on a primordial level (at some point it would be good to alter natural processes). We can also lose ourselves in a refinment process anchored in an illusory idea of perfection.

Everything that happens is Natural (even the physical laws that govern our movements, decisions ect)

A good standard to achieve that balance is even more cooler.

What process should be used to apply a universal standard?
Empiricism?
Religion?
Aesthetical creativity?
All of them in no strict arrangment?
Somebody said so?
Maybe I'm just supposed to know.

Like I am to my opinion Im never altering natural self to look european or something else...Maybe you should do more research on black women's naturalness go to some natural websites or visit some natural hair salon's or whatever I dont understand why we should consider altering what have naturally BEAUTY!, black women are BLESSED...Peace

The words escape me in completely describing the magnetic pull of black women. I don't think modifying, highlighting, or aesthetically altering oneself is intrinsically wrong. If one finds themselves to be manipulating their physical (or mental) appearance to abnegate their natural look for an image they deem superior then that is a problem. If that image is cos-metically or wholistically aligned with white people then there is definitely a problem.

You must dont think natural is beatiful,or wherever your from you must dont see alot of it!!! ...I realise that some people minds wont change(something im not trying to do to you) I feel you need and probaly should look more into it! its alot of sistar's and brothers that would back me up on this!!! we feel( as mentioned )we dont have to perm, colour ,war our faces, go to the koreans for nail jobs to be beautiful!!!...so whatever...Peace
