Kanye West is the epitome of an overhyped, confused brotha that's trying to just get money from the conscious audience as well as thugs. MANASIAC 07-03-2005, 05:30 AM Man Somebody is in here really preaching.... Monetary 07-05-2005, 06:44 PM I've seen the video. The video is tight to me. I'll have to listen more intently for the confused part. By the way, did you think Pac was confused? QQn MANASIAC 07-05-2005, 08:18 PM Tupac in my opinion was confused. Flaw negros get millions and catch felonies, thats all I got to say about that one... panafrica 07-05-2005, 08:39 PM Tupac in my opinion was confused. Flaw negros get millions and catch felonies, thats all I got to say about that one... Wow...I thought I was the only one to feel this way. Tupac had some positive messages in his music. However for every 1 positive song he had 7 negative ones. He was just as likely to tell a woman to "Keep Your Head Up" as he was to call them a "B**** or a Ho". One minute he was talking Black Nationalism, then the next he was talking "Thug Life". So little of us seem to catch the contradictory...schizo behavior! So little of us seemed to care. I'd have a problem with someone telling me to treat our women like Queens, only to go to jail for raping a sister shortly after deliverying his message....but maybe that is just me! kente417mojo 07-05-2005, 08:43 PM but maybe that is just me! Nope, I've always said Tupac was a hypocrite. People always look pass the fact because he was a "conscious" rapper. You could say the same about a few rappers nowadays that some conscious folks worship, simply because they switch up every album. One day they're a thug and the next they're a profit. It's rediculous. Monetary 07-06-2005, 12:39 AM I don't think either men are or were confused. I think they are going after both dollars...those into the "thug life" and those who are "conscious." They're trying to provide something for everyone. No matter what you want, they want to provide it. It's a business decision. It's not confusion. Why do you think he wrote those songs and made those videos referencing Jesus? Is he committed to any particular religion? I don't know all of the rappers. But, I do believe they'll say and do anything just to make some money. How many cds does 50 cent have and he has a movie coming out based on his cd?! A new popular rapper gets a contract, a clothing line and a movie. Peep game...don't let game peep you. panafrica 07-06-2005, 05:50 AM I don't think either men are or were confused. Actually you are probably right brother Monetary. However that is even worse, our youth putting corporate whores as profits and Messiahs! Therious 07-07-2005, 02:24 PM I dont think its all about $$. I mean have you ever heard of the battle of good and evil in ones self. Kanye actually discussed this same issue in an article, i dont where it was written but if i find out ill post (i was told this by a secondary source-word of mouth). He said he is undecided in his head, he stated he wants to be accepted socially (mainstream- iced chains, money, cars ect) but at the same time he is deeply sadended by the state of blacks in the world. perhaps confused as i stated is not correct, perhaps a better word is honest. I mean pac had his flaws, in retrospect he was just speaking his mind weather good or bad. i still have not seen the video would like 2, but i still find it strange in the same son an emcee would reference the diamond slave trade in sierra leone then on the hook say "throw your diamonds in the sky if you feel the vibe". And "people asking will i give my chain back,,that'll be the day that i give the game back". maby it is all about the $$$ lol okay now im sounding confused. one Monetary 07-07-2005, 03:33 PM I dont think its all about $$. It's the battle of "man vs himself." We all have this fight within us. It can be seen in sex. We say do the right thing; wear a condom; leave her or him alone because I'm in a relationship with someone; and/or I know this is wrong but everyone else is doing it and getting away with it. So, I totally understand your point no matter how it's expressed, man vs himself, good vs evil, GOD vs the devil. To bring it closer to home, SOME of these rappers if not most are former drug dealers or "true" thugs who just happen to get into the rap game to save their own hides. That's just being honest. Rapping was their way out of the game. However, they realize that they have to still perpetuate the drug or thug game in their music...and in their lives...in order to be successful or to make a lot of money. They'd rather do that than go back to selling drugs or what not. It's the decision which must be made when you don't follow the "norms" of society; graduate high school, go to college or trade school, and get a job to take care of you and yours. They know it's not right to call a woman a "B" or an "H." But they do it anyway to gain street credibility. Nowadays, street credibility comes at a higher price. You have to go jail. There are several examples. I can't run off a list of names right now but I'm sure you can think of some. The most recent is Lil Kim. She lied to a grand jury for two people who told the truth about what they did. So, she goes to jail for a year instead of being honest about those two individuals being at the scene or not. Not telling or "snitching" will gain her street credibility that she can use when she gets out of jail. The rapper who raps "Danger," "***** Crook," and "Shake Ya ***" is in jail for doing stupid ish to raise his street credibility so that he can increase his record sales. Don't get me wrong. They don't say to themselves "Well, today...I'mma rape this woman, get caught, and go to jail for some street credibility." But **** it, whether you're a rapper or not...noticed by the general public or not, you know good and well that raping a woman is just plain wrong; especially, when there are plenty of women who'll have sex with you just because. They don't know how to just leave that behavior behind and move on with their lives. That's the connection I see. So, Kanye knows better...but he has to make a decision as ALL people must. Should I do the right thing or do whatever to get whatever? Am I willing to pay the cost to be the boss? I wouldn't want to be a rapper. The respect of being a rapper has since gone. Things got progressively worse and worse. Anyway, I want to say more but not being able to recall the names of certain rappers in order to make my point clear is impeding my participation in this discussion. But, I hope ya'll get the gist of my point. :D Deepvoice 07-07-2005, 06:11 PM Everybody has their ups and downs its part of being human just because he becomes famous don't take away from that fact. One day I want to kill my brother the next I want to give him everything I got to support him in what he wants to achieve. I"m surprised so many people even know these rappers by name because I thought you guys were a "older people". |
