Warning!!!! Those of us with a touch of the sugar, need not try this recipe.
2 24oz cans of Vegetarian Baked Beans
1 lbs of ground beef
1 yellow onion
1 1/2 cups of sweet red pepper relish
1 1/2 cups of white sugar
1/2 cup of brown sugar
1 packet of beefy onion dry soup mix
2 tsps course ground black pepper
1/2 cup of BBQ sauce
2 tbsp of yellow mustard
1 tsps of tabasco sauce
6 drops of hickory liquid smoke (please note: do not concentrate drops in one area)
1 tsps of seasoning salt.
Pre-heat the oven to 325F. Brown the ground beef and drain the fat. Finely dice the yellow onion. Pour the beans in a 4 quart baking dish or pan. Add the ground beef and onions to the beans and mix. Add the wet ingredients and stir then liberally add the dry ingredients all over then mixture and fold into the mixture thoroughly. Then place the dish into the oven and increase the temperature to 450F and cook for 35 to 45 minutes. When the beans are carmelized on the top remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes. This dish serves 12 to 14 people but if baked beans are a favorite then it serves 8 to 10 people.
