View Full Version : Black Relationships : When you dinered in a restaurant and there is food left do you take it with you?
LibertyLady 03-07-2005, 07:09 PM Hi fam:heart:.....
i was just wondering.
(i usally do this and some people look at you if you dont have food at home or you ran out of money)
so i was wondering if you do this and how you feel about it..
When there is so much food left?
Do you take it with you ? and give it to some one
for example a homeless woman or man?
or maybe for the next day for your self...
and when you do this do you feel ashamed....?
panafrica 03-07-2005, 07:36 PM Why would one feel ashamed about eating food that they paid for? I am aware that some cultures frown upon taking home food. However it is both accepted and common in the US. I don't see why it wouldn't be.
watzinaname 03-07-2005, 11:15 PM Yes it is both accepted and common in the US. Sometimes the waiter or waitress will even ask if you want to take the food home with you.
Why feel ashamed...you bought it???
LibertyLady 03-08-2005, 04:55 AM Right:heart:
i dont feel ashamed about it to......
And yeah ...that is a good one you paid for it to !
this is sumthing different...
But yesterday i saw a man walking at the busstop ...
he picked up old things and that where laying on the street and put it in a trashcan......And people looked at him weird ...but he just tried to keep it clean.....
I thought it was beautifulll....
And we look at him weird maybe but...
we are the weirdones trwowing it on the streets while we have these places where we can put it in.....

kente417mojo 03-08-2005, 02:12 PM Hell yeah I take it home. Like everyone one said, you paid for it and all that means is you're not wasteful. The same people looking at you are the same ones that are too embarrassed to do what they really want to do. Sometimes I don't, but that's only if I don't feel like carrying it around if I have to go somewhere right after dinner. If I'm just going to the car and home, yeah, I'm taking that food. Save me some LibertyLady :x:
$$RICH$$ 03-08-2005, 11:35 PM yep me too , i always ask for a carry-out tray
infact nearly everyone does this i agree i paid for it so i like to carry it home
it could be a late night snack or taking it home for the children there are so
many reasons why but i surely do and i'm never ashamed it's mines ........
panafrica 03-09-2005, 05:21 AM This is obviously a European thing!

Why would I be ashamed of having to take the food home? I've done this numerous times, mainly because the amount of food they give you is too much to eat in one sitting.
Khasm13 03-09-2005, 10:25 AM i get a doggie bag an awful lot when i go out...
with appetizers and a meal...that can be a lot of food...
waste not want not...

moham 03-09-2005, 10:33 AM Hi Liberty
I did this a lot of times and nobody looked at me strangely!
And to me it doesn't matter how people will look or what they might say...I'm a student, so... Ima take it home anyways!!
I know alot of people who do this, a 'doggy bag' is familiar here too. So I think the feeling of discomfort or embarrassment is not a European thing.
And you're right, what the guy did was a good thing. I know other men who do that also.
 moham
1hotvirgowoman 03-09-2005, 01:23 PM I figure it like this. I payed for it- why wouldn't I be able to take what was left over. Besides, Restaurants are aware that people don't finish their meals- Why do you think that they offer to give you a Doggie Bag in the first place?.
panafrica 03-09-2005, 01:30 PM Family we are coming from two different places. Sister Liberty Lady is European (Holland). The reason I am aware of other places that frown upon people taking home food is because I have been to Europe (Spain). It would help this discussion if Liberty Lady could express exactly why it is considered rude to take home food where she is from.

Oh, I didn't know this.
Yes, she needs to explain the cultural reasoning why Europeans frown upon this practice.
unique 03-09-2005, 02:05 PM Yes, I usually get a doggy bag if I know I'm gonna eat it. If its something I didn't like I'll leave it right there.
AHMOSE 03-12-2005, 03:33 PM Aint no shame in my game I take my food with me.

HODEE 03-14-2005, 08:58 AM This has made me Hungry Liberty, now I have to go out and order me some take home from the restaurant.
I have sat down, lost my appetite and took my entire meal. Sauces, prime rib juices and condiments ( like honey mustard sauce that comes with chicken strips, or those sweet sauces that come with coconut shrimp. ) If it came with my meal, I'm taking it if I want. You know those hot skillet chicken and beef combination fajita's.. I always leave with something.
When I'm with my kids they dont always finish, I take mine theirs and pile it in a container. So you will see me passing plates doggie bagging up what is left. Separate containers, maybe, all one if possible.
I take all my bread too. Especially those sage rolls . Ummmm
:run: Hodee the Etiquette police :horse: are comng!

Pharaoh Jahil 04-08-2005, 11:54 AM I paid for it, I'm taking it home. I don't like wasting food anyway.
Especially if the food is really good. (Excuse me, can I get this to go please?)
Believe it....
Peace......
HODEE 04-08-2005, 12:21 PM Maybe they want to take it home, to their family members Liberty. You are cramping their delivery.
I pack up all that isn't nailed down. Bread, sauce ..for my shrimp, fries on my kids plate, if it won't fit we get as many to go containers as we need.
