The Illusion of a Man

Refrain:

I’m sorry if I’m not impressed by your ends
I’m sorry if I am not impressed by your Benz
I need a man with a soul not a pocket full of ends

Verse 1:

Some girls might call you a king
But I think your living a dream
An illusion of a man who is not what he seems
A walking nightmare on the inside but on the outside he is a heavenly dream
He will sell you a fantasy just to get you down on his team

Refrain

Verse 2:

I was a fool to chase after you
I thought your heart and money were mine
But I was so lost in your lies that I did not have a clue
It took a lot of hurt to realize I would never be your only one
That I would forever be your number two

Refrain

Verse 3:

Now you’re trying to come back with those same pitiful lines
I realize you’re an a illusion of a man
A fake dream that is a hole in time
I refuse to be apart of your silly games
Peace of mind is more important to me than your Benz or your small Chump Change

Refrain

The theme of this piece is that of a song; a song of disenchantment. The narrator has either lost favor with a suitor, or, never held him in high esteem to begin with. That sentiment, clear and concise, is consistent throughout. The title may suggest Hit The Road Jack, but without question, the message is: Don't you come back no more...

It would appear that in the end the wisdom of the narrator is justfied.

The author of this writing is a serious technician, whom I respect for their dedication to the craft of poetry. This work, while effective, illustrates that
(in my mind at least), the pragmatic approach often leaves too little room for imagination. Having said that, as a matter of style, this prolific writer/poet is no joke. I look for great things to come out of such love for the biz.

The refrain symbolizes who understands the true value of a man, after she is given a purported one that is described in the song. Everything she is not impressed by is what she thought a real man was.

Let me know if dat helps :-)

As a man i'm a little bit...lost.What makes a man,i mean what values should a man have whitin him? What can make me be proud of my sex?Because nowadays we have a world of material;all of us know that we don't live only with love and fresh water!!!So if i have a girlfriend,my view is that i should do my best to provide many material things to her first-of-all before the "i love you",the flowers and so on...By the way, she'll understand how strong are my feelings!Am i wrong?

THis is what makes a man:

1. A man who respects himself and understands that his choices effects his girl, himself and his future.

2. A man leads by example, he always makes an effort to practice what he preaches.

3. A man knows that material things will pass away, and that providing spiritually, mentally, and emotionally lasts forever.

4. A man will clearly assert how he feels to whomever needs to know it.

5. A man knows that a woman can provide for herself, and does not need him for money, but she needs him for support and her future.

6. A man treats his woman as an equal, not as a subordinate.

7. A man provides for his family.

So basically you are a bit wrong. Material things do not make you a man. What makes you a man is the choices you make to improve your life, your community and your woman. Do not believe the hype pimp. Women make their own money now adays. A woman needs a listner, a lover, and a man with a slow hand. If you need to be proud of your sex, you may need to see a doctor, sex has nothing to do with anyones well being.

i love the concept of song/poems and found this was definitely that..
i am fascinated by your rhythms within the verses? they are all 5 line stanzas..and yet rhythmically extra beats shift the rhythms...did you do that on purpose?..was it set up for certain words to ring out stonger?
ie..the first stanza - the line "a walking nightmare on the inside but on the outside he is a heavenly dream" shifts the rhythm...i find that interesting and challenging...was that apart of the process of writing the song?

THe rythmitic shift was apart of writing the song, for the singer. She asked for lyrics that had a stronger meanining than traditional written songs, yet at the same time, she wanted the lyrics to not be a thesis.

Thank you Deepy

:welldone: and well said and explained...I have no critique on the piece...I thought it was great.

Glad you explained the refrain part...I understood it full after that, as poetry and as music.

Nice work Manasia!

Wow.........i was impressed....
my question is was this a song just written for someone or is this how you honestly feel? Material things do not make a person male or female, but what makes a person is the heart and sole. Most men do seem to think that it's whats in the pockets that make them. I guess that's why we lose so many of our black men to the streets or prison. So the main question to all men would be.........WHO ARE YOU? not "What do you have?"
