I take it that you don't have a Perm....Well, in this case, I would wear it water waved with some Gel. I can tell you more if you let me know if you got a perm or not.lol

Nisa

Beautiful! You can wear it curly!. Or, if it is long enough, blow dry it and put a little Pomade on the ends, this should give you a spiky' look, put it on with some hoop earrings and you'll be ready ta' go!. My hair is natural too so I' ve been where you are @. If you got any mo' questions feel free to ask me- I'll hook you up!

What should I do after I wash it, so i can have it cute and natural the next day? :insane:

What kindof texture do you have? Do you have a good grade of hair?. Let's just say that you didn't. I would roll my hair with small or medium Perm Rods, to stretch it and make it curly. What shape of Face do you have?

Nisa
11-18-2004, 01:34 PM
Good Grade. It's soft. round face

1hotvirgowoman
11-18-2004, 02:18 PM
Then you've got it made!. Just slick on some gel and you are good to go! Round Faces can get away with a lot of hair styles, no matter what anyone says.

:hi: Greetings beautiful black people..

hello sista Virgowoman.. girl u are quite welcome and if u have specific questions or want to be turned onto another great natural hair journey just let me kno.. stay beautiful and natural :x:

:geek: Panafrica.. hello my brotha... i love when i see your posts in the forums.. u provide humorous thought provoking intelligent comments and posts , which are much appreciated...

anywhoo natural hair stying for babies uh :?:

well.. im more knowledgable in terms of adults but i do my little cousins hair ( shes 2 years of age) , and the result is managable ,healthy and NATURAL groomed hair i'll share my simple tips..

i wash and condition babies hair with baby shampoo or conditioner-- making sure i comb babies hair with the conditioner on her head.-- if i dont use baby shampoo i use products from http://www.ebenenaturals.com these products are all natural which i prefer when doing hair esp for babies..
i also once or twice a month deep condition with hair mayonnaise or pure virgin olive oil put a plastic cap on her head and let it soak for 15 or 20 min rinse and proceed with the following...

after washing and conditoning and drying-- leaving her hair damp i oil with jajoba oil-- which is the oil closest to the oils that naturally secrete from our oil glands..i try not to put heavy "pore clogging" grease in her hair and the difference is remarkable.. her hair is able to breathe and grow out naturally

once her hair and scalp is oiled i style while damp which is better for "our" hair.. i do one to three ponytail puffs .. ponytails with barets and ribbions.. but maily i braid it to keep her hair protected and healthy.. ohh and of course i put a stocking cap on her end at night to keep it as neat as possible ;) what u kno about the good ole stocking cap...

:fyi: i belong to several hair forums that offer a variety of natural hair info.. these forums are made up of wonderful sistas and brothas that are friendly knowledgable and willing to assist u quickly-- check them out and post your questions and be sure to refer to their link sections and message boards.. there great brotha pan.

Thanks for the advice sister soulfulmixx! My 2 year old daughter wears her hair natural, she has never had a perm or any chemicals put in her hair. This is in keeping with my wife's African traditions. However only my wife can fix her hair! When I am left alone with my daughter I don't know what to do with her hair. Hopefully these links will give me some tips!

Hi ladies,

Glad to see the naturals alive :grouphug:

just want to clear something, what we are calling a 'perm' is correctly called a 'relaxer' (relaxing the curls from curly to straight)

perm= is having straight hair and wanting it curly
relaxer= is having curly hair and wanting it straight

I always wondered why sistah's always used perm in describing their chemical hair oppose to the correct term. To noone in particular, but I'm amazed by the use of the word by many

and to the poster who asked if someone had 'good' hair, is that mindset still running rampant. :bam:

Good hair is any hair in its HEALTHY state, not texture, please stop the ignorance, it's so not cute

wonderful advice by soulfulmixx, thanks, I'll look into those links :hearts4:

:fyi: sista 1hotvirgowomani so understand what could be happening cause i too had the same situation one time going on with my hair..

as an adult im not one to go to the hair salons like in my teens. but just like u i was wondering what was going on.. the hair consultant told me it was because i hadn't had my hair trimmed in a min basically and the split ends had moved up splitting from the base, then ended up at a stopping point and curled into eachother forming little knots..

at that point i hadn't had my hair trimmed girl in like years ok.. so i went ahead and had her do a wash and deep condition with a "trim" and needless to say it never returned.. **I PERSONALLY* dont trim as often has recommened but every once in a while i blow dry it straight and trim the ends and those little knots haven't returned sista..

Summary: *continue conditioning e.g. pure olive oil and deep conditioning e.g. http://aphogee.com/aphogeetreatment.cfm your hair
*have ends trimmed ( how often is your preference however they say every 6-8 weeks)
* and continue keeping you hair moisturized to prevent dry hair that breaks and splits..

peace sistas please feel free to ask if any other questions arise

Sista' Soulful, I got one mo' question for you. How can I successfully obtain an Afro without damaging my hair? 'Cause I don't want anymore of them' split-ends?. I have never worn it this way and My Mom said that it will cause a Riot in my hair!. Can you prove her wrong?. Currently, I am wearing my hair in a twist-out style, it's sortof like an Curly Afro- but I want the "Foxy Brown" Fro.

I've heard that the Aphogee stuff is too strong for natural hair unless it's like extremely damaged. What were your experiences w/ it?
How long have you been natural?

:hi: hey nice to meet u...

well from MY and a few other natural hair friends that i have.. i found aphogee to not be too strong at all.. totally stengthened mine and my friennds hair-- no problems at all..

:fyi: ok mind u..it is made for damaged hair no doubt so basically i use it as my once a month "deep" condition/ or if my hair gets mad dry i.e. winter season-- but on the regular i use all natural shampoos and conditioners.. with suave thrown in 'err now and then

im also incorporating the "no poo" method in caring for my natural hair.. this means using conditioner instead of shampoo... due to shampoo haboring strong chemicals e.g. sodium lauryl which is used in i believe drain cleaners or floor cleaners :uhoh:

please feel free to contact me if u like.. ill be locing my hair soon... and starting an online journal with natural hair links etc.. ill keep u posted..

much love... stay tru stay "U"

u funny girl.. but dont get me started cuz i'm str8 up silly....

anyway.. im still waiting for the sista to call me back cuz i cant find the link but ill get get dont worry..

shea butter... yea girl its thick...but such a wonderful moisturizer.. again others my have a suggestons but what i do is this.. basically i use shea on skin prevent wrinkles and smooth my skin.. and to my hair but after warming it alittle..( Simply rub a small amount between your hands to warm and soften) all your trying to do is soften it-- and there u go.. use your butta girlllllllllll  lol.. but seriously sista it works..

:book: ** check this out sista:
In order to make your own shea butter soap, you will need:

All-natural Castile (olive oil based) soap
distilled water
2 tbsp all-natural, unprocessed shea butter
1 tbsp finely ground almonds (optional, but a nice addition for a gentle exfoliating soap with a nice scent)
A grater
A double boiler, or a small pot that can be placed inside of a bigger pot
Small plastic food containers for molds
A mixing spoon
A drying rack
Begin by setting some tap water to boil in the double-broiler or big pot. Grate your castile soap until you have two cups full. Add this to the inner double-boiler, or the small pot, with ½ cup of distilled water. Melt it over medium high heat, stirring frequently until the soap is completely melted and stringy when you pull up the spoon.

Remove it from the heat. Add the shea butter and almonds, stirring gently until the mixture is well blended. Pour into small plastic food containers and let dry and harden for several hours. They should pop out when completely hard.

Place on the drying rack and allow soap to set for 3 weeks, turning regularly throughout the day to prevent the bars from warping. Then, simply wrap

girl you'll love it!!
some other uses:
unrefined shea butter

Chapped skin or lips
Sun damaged skin
Wrinkles :luv: lol
Stretch marks
Scars and blemishes
Eczema
Cracked and dry heals or elbows
Small wounds and scrapes
Diaper rash (prevention and relief)
Hair & Dread maintenance
Insect bites & stings
Arthritis
Muscle fatigue, aches & tension (excellent massage oil)
Burns
Athletes Foot and other fungal infections
Dogs & other pets (skin infections, dry skin & coats)
Natural mechanics lubricant
Horses (hoof maintenance, sunburn, scrapes) lol

** so remmeber 100% Pure Shea Butter has a firm texture. Warm the shea butter a minute in your hands and allow it to melt completely with your body temperature until butter is a liquid consistency before application.

Hi Ladies!

Even I have have which always curls up after wash. But I prefer to use hair oil which my friend uses and they have been using it for quite sometime, so I gave it a try too.
Anyway after the wash I just take Emami amla hair oil in my palms and apply on hair and then i can make my hair as I want to.
Try it.

:nono: girl u are something else but im glad u ask this question to make it simple no its not damaging"necessarily"...

:geek: u see i did say well conditioned and moisturized right so with that in mind and your hair being semi damp---DAMP>> u can go hed and style you hair..

ok wet hair can be managed better for certain styles.. i mean taking in part your ur styling it correctly... if u think about it ur just "picking" your hair out with a wide tooth comb in a certain direction your damaging it.. and its semi damp.. think of all the beautiful sistas that rocked fros for years thick healthy fros at that..beautiful healthy hair.. not dyed and fried( no offense to sistas that prefer that tho)-- but u kno what i mean...

so girl stop it and go do u and rock that fro sista.

ohh i left the link to one of my sites in your email aaight..

take care and thank u for your sweet compliments

Hi Ladies!

Even I have have which always curls up after wash. But I prefer to use hair oil which my friend uses and they have been using it for quite sometime, so I gave it a try too.
Anyway after the wash I just take Emami amla hair oil in my palms and apply on hair and then i can make my hair as I want to.
Try it.
**************************
uhmm ,i love trying new"oils".. can u tell me or the forum rather about this oil.. and where do u purchase it.. **ive looked online and not sure which one exactly your referring too... :?:

thanks sis

Natural Hair talk... I had to jump in the mix

Experiment Experiment Experiment
It took me so long to master my fro after I went natural. I have had more than a few bad hair styles But I have got it down now. Beep Beep (tooting my own horn)
Anyway, It's fun to play with a lot of afro styles. For a tight curly afro_wash hair and generously apply a deep moisturizing conditioner, don't rinse and let hair air dry. This is so fly because as the hair dries it takes on a style of its own. The deep condition also helps after a long spell with braids or heat. Great in the summer. For a more traditional fro, wash hair and let air dry (w/o conditioner) to get a tighter fro. to extend the length separate wet hair into sections braid it in platts (like miss ceily fron the color purple) sleep on it and take it out in the moring for a real fly-boheimian-diva look. Also I like to twist my hair for a week and take it out, rock a krinkly fro for a few days.
Keep the scalp moist with 100% shea butter or olive oil. Dark and lovely has a good natural hair line too. try the honey kissed hair dress. AVOID GEL LIKE THE PLAGUE. It dries hair out and prevents growth.
Just be confident, no matter how crazy your hair looks, if you like it other people will love it.
Keep the style suggestions comming.

Actually, that is how I have been wearing my hair-two stranded twistouts!. I get a grip' of compliments about it. I just never knew that is was part of the "Fro" Family!.... When you talk about that "Honey kissed hair dress", are you talking about the one in the lil'brown jar? Is it hydrating?.

Yes sis,

the honey kissed hair dress is in the lil brown jar. It is very hydrating and helps to keep the edges of my hair from breaking when I pull it back into an afro puff. It also smells really really good. Have fun exploring your "froisms."

Peace
