Hello Sister Daroc!

Long time no read! Its nice to see you are still checkin in! No, it's not wrong for you to want some college dialog. Perhaps if you start a thread, then others will follow your lead. Set the pace Sister and let's see where it goes. :run:

Again, Nice to see ya around!

Hey sister Daroc:

I feel your frustration sister! However for the most part, the crowd at Destee is older (30s & up), and many of us have already graduated from college. Even those of us who are still going to school, they are "adult" students in graduate school. That experience is quite different than a 18-22 year old pursuing their BA/BS, joining frats, clubbin, etc. I'm afraid the demographic you are looking for is not dominant on this site, hopefully they will start to join in greater numbers!

Hello Sister Sinoping! Welcome to Destee!

I would like to reverse that question, Has affirmative action benefited you in anyway? If so, How so? If not, Why not?

Look forward to your response!

well, I wasn't aware of affirmative action two years ago ( when I applied for college). But I'm not an African-American descent, so I can't really answer this question for the people.

can you educate me on this issue, brother purplemoons :D

:spin: Just for the record, I am a Sister.:D

As far as I know, the benefits of afirmative actions goes mostly to white women. But as I think about about it, I wonder where would our corporal Black people be without it. I'm not suggesting that our people arent knowlegable, but it does force employers to hire us. Without it I cant see where to many of our people would have the opportunity to shine. Racism is ugly, not to mention the constant degeneration that is displayed about us in the media.

I think it is beneficial for us, but as with everything positive, it has its negatives too.

What do you think? Also, may I ask you what nationality are you?

I think you're right. I'd apologize if I said something wrong. I'm a young apprentice in learning African ( including African-American) people and cultures. :D
Oh ya, and I'm Chinese.

By the way, this board is so inactive. Is there a similar board but with more people interacting and sharing opinions? Thanks.

Apology accepted! It gets slow sometimes, but for the most part its usually very active. I can't direct you to any other site. I love it here! But perhaps you can do a search and find what you are looking for.

I thought your sign in name was of an Asian nature. I didn't want to assume that. I hope, that I don't seem to invasive, But why the interest in African (African American) people?

Good Luck on your studies!!!!

Because I think African-Americans and Africans are mispresented by the media. I just wanted to find the truth about it. :toast:

Sinoping if you really want to learn about African Americans, might I suggest you read "From Slavery to Freedom" by John Hope Franklin (if this book isn't enough, I can suggest others)! If you want to know African Americans make friends with some in person! Visiting a black forum will not provide you with a true image of the depth & diversity of black people.

First, let us find out what Chinese people think about Blacks...and be honest!

I can't speak for all Chinese, but from people I know, there are mainly two kinds of "Black". Chinese have good relationship with African people (from Africa). When I was in Beijing (My family is from Beijing, btw), I saw many Africans there studying Chinese and I was very glad. Historically, China and Africa didn't have much contact, therefore there leaves a great room of tolerance and respect. Chinese people have something against Japanese, Koreans ,Vietnamese, and pretty much all European/American nationalities except the small ones you barely hear from because of historical reasons. However, for African-Americans, as I said, there's a false illusion of them in media. Many African-Americans are seen as NBA players, rap artists, or comedian actors/actresses.

Just being honest. :toast:

So in other words the "false illusion" of Blacks by Chinese is essentially a White supremacist view (i.e. Blacks are gun totting crimminals, who like to sing, dance and play sports, and are very submissive, etc)?

sadly but truly, yes. The American media is controlled by Whites, that's where the illusion is generated.

No, I'm Chinese.
Not just Blacks, but all minorities, including Chinese, in America are negatively portrayed by the media. We're on the same boat.

That is so true Sinoping!

All minorities are played down when it comes to the white race. They even take it a step further, by potraying other minorities above others. It seems they don't want us to find common grounds within other races. Why do you think that is?

Hm....can you provide an example? I think all minorities are played down equally.

Sure, it's called divide and conquer. Imagine what could potentially happen if all so called minoroties started communicating only to realize and understand that they really have something in common and potentially have the same enemy?

I mean, what groups are being put above what other groups? I don't see it.

Keita Kenyatta

It's not a matter of putting one group above another. It's just a matter of using the correct methods to highlight what they don't have in common or to create artificial prejudices as a void of separation between them.

Think about it Sinoping.

What minority race is mostly potrayed as business owners? What race is mostly potrayed as ghetto but optimistic? What race is mostly potrayed as thugs, gangsters, and hoers?

If you look outside of, what is presented as average behaviors in society, you will see it.

Its all a program to keep us from thinking for ourselves. If we weren't presented in such a manor, would any of us think the way we do about each other? Or would we think more about an individuals behavior, rather than a collective group?

Realbrother

Real Brother here.

I think its silly to look at other Races for our empowerment. If other Races have that much power over us then we deserve to die off.

Stop thinking that the key to success in business and in surviving as a Black Race is to abandon the Black Race and become White.

If you all would open your eyes what you would see that the main reason why other Races are running circles around us is because those other Races don't HATE THEIR RACE and think if it as genetically inferior.

Indeed our very problem is we think something is WRONG with us being Black and instead of embracing who we are and useing our numbers and unique gifts as Black people we waste our lives trying to be White lamenting the fact that we are Black.

Are Asians really wasting time hating and killing and selling crack to each other and tearing each other down calling each other "ghetto" for not wanting to be White ?

Are Asians blasting Yao Ming and Hideo Nomo for playing sports and not being brain surgeons or PHD candidates ? Are Whites wasting time telling Emimiem that Rappers are ciminals and degenerate and that he shouldn't be one ?

Are Mexicans calling J-Lo a HO ?

Is anyone starting a Thread about Madonna having a child Out Of Wedlock ?

No, other Races dont' HATE WHO THEY ARE and think of their oppressors as Superior to them.

This is the problem, we as a Race need to stop HATING ONE ANOTHER and we need to stop thinking of Whites as SUPERIOR to us then and only then will we marry and date each other, educate and invest with each other, work together and live together and stop trying to breed ourselves out of existence.

This is the answer.

No Sellout.

I agree with you on somethings you stated here, but don't believe the hype that other races don't have the same issues as ours. They just don't broadcast it all over the news and radio.

We do need to redirect our focus off of other races to some degree but not fully. Don't want to be caught sleeping!
