I just got through reading the thread about shutting this thread down, and I don't want to see that happen. I have never posted a thread here mostly because I love poetry, however I am a historian by education. Therefore I just ran across a site that actually shows the hand-written document that gave us freedom--The Emancipation Proclamation.

http://www.archives.gov/exhibit_hall/featured_documents/emancipation_proclamation/Emancipation Link (http://www.archives.gov/exhibit_hall/featured_documents/emancipation_proclamation/)

So I wanted to post this because I have never seen this document in person and I've never really read it until a few weeks ago, so check out the history, the parchment and power, or lack thereof and let's get a conversation started about the power or lack thereof of this document. Did it really make a change, or was it just for show?? Come on people, let's think!!

Thanks for the post Nabraska. I read the entire document just now. I’ll return later to comment specifically about the document. I'm letting it sink in.
