View Full Version : Black Ancestors : CLOSE DOWN THIS THREAD FOR LACK OF SUPPORT...

Isaiah

Destee, go ahead, chastise me for saying this, but this thread should be closed down for the lack of support it receives - and so should the culture thread... It shows me that Africans in America really don't give two cents worth a **** about our ancestors, nor our culture... We don't and we wont even bother to search it out unless it's delivered to us on a damned silver platter, and even then all we do is pick at it...

I am filled with a sense of sadness you cannot believe... Folks do go out of their way to bring topics of information to the board, and that is not titilating enough for folks... We're more apt to wanna know who Kobe's sleepin' with now, than about Africans whose memory's we should be cherishing... They died for this bunch in vain as far as I'm concerned...

Peace!
isaiah

Brother Isaiah, I have to run to a couple of meetings but I disagree with you that this forum and cultural forum should be shut down. Don't assume that because people aren't posting that they aren't reading. I am an avid reader but I haven't posted much here. I'm a student, Brother Isaiah, not always a teacher. I'm learning and appreciating the information I find here. If it comes down to a vote as to whether to close these forums, please know in advance that I will vote for them to remain open.

You have my support Brother....

Brother I, I have posted some historical stuff on here and have felt the same way. However I must say this:

Don't people have a right to read and post where they want?

Just because a person is a member of the Diaspora does not mean he has to read and post on every single thread on the Ancestors and Culture board. Maybe some of our members get their information from other sources?

I think maybe we ought to consider another way of presentation to garner more interest in these two forums.

No one can learn if the information isn't here, this is akin to closing a library because not enough people check out books. Let the information stay and people will seek it out when they are ready!

I'm sorry you feel this way.

Let me just say this.

There are days when my job is hectic and when I come on this site on those days I look for things that will brighten/lighten my mood. That means I avoid topics that are arguementive or things that seem so serious it will bring my mood down.

I believe I have posted on this thread at times that I've run across information that I felt was not repetative.

I've enjoyed reading the things you've posted Isaiah, but that comment you made is a little harsh.

Truely they are very helpful and both teaching me History and deeper
some things i didn't know and couldn't answer due to lack of full understanding
or knowledge these forums enlighten me and teach what i lack in we need
them and the truth of wisdom to remain so not only members like me can
learn but set forth our children to these forums so they understand and learn

never remove valuable information from the eyes of the readers many do visit
and read just without replying back i have took time to read every post just didn't
reply as of yet......

Don't flip the script on the minds of many but allow time for the break through
and watch how we become as a whole unity and understand don't fly by night
but in time my brutha your information hold a value to the community .

POWER TO THE PEOPLE ....where you teach here i teach it poeticlly :read:

Sisters Carrie and NNQUEEN, and Brothers PanAfrica and Manasiac, I was not directing these comments at any of you, as I know you ALL to support the things posted in both these threads... If you feel offended in any way by what I said, I apologize, as it was not directed at you personally...

However, I have the justifiable right to feel disheartened as I look on these threads, and see that not a soul has responded to them... That is not about me, as I see quite a many threads that no one even feels a sense of the desire to comment at all... I feel, hey, why even bother... I can talk about Lebron's new sneakers, too... No Prob, if that is what tittilates people... I am just being real here...

BTW, Manasiac, this is a different way of presenting the information... It is a cry from the wilderness for Africans to move away from the nonsense, so that we can do what must be done... The study of history and culture is a discipline, and right now, Africans aint got it... Its right here at our fingertips... Something to whet our appetite for learning, and we don't seem to want it... I'm just saying that you got to want education... If you don't want education and enlightenment then lawd I know what your babies are gone be like... That's scary...

Peace!

Brother Isaiah, yes you have the right to feel disheartened if you think members don't appreciate the value of this information. I'm not sure though that I would confine my assessement of that to only people who are posting.

If you've lost faith in the people, Brother Isaiah, then at least maintain your faith in your work and what you are trying to do. To give up will defeat the purpose of these threads. At least that's my opinion. Think of your ancestors...our ancestors, to whom you are paying homage to. Where would we be if they had given up on us and not believed in us? The reason is far more important than a few individuals don't you think?

Thank you, Queenie, I needed that :massage: Where've you been all a brother's life!(smile!)

Yeah, the ancestor's wouldn't like it if we gave up the ship... I hear my man Otis Redding talkin' 'bout that sister wearing that same old shabby dress... I'm inspired! Thanks for helping me keep my head up, Queenie....(smile!)

Brother Isaiah ... i feel your sense of sadness, frustration, almost hopelessness, thinking you're doing a wonderful thing, only to be met with complacency, lack of support, and dismay. Yes, Brother, i know it well.

You suggest in this thread that we close down a particular part of this community because the response is not what you had hoped for. I have often thought this many times, only it is the entire community that i think of closing down, when such thoughts run through my mind.

I put so much of myself into this, so many long hours, so much of my money, my whole heart, soul, mind, body, and strength. I take money that should be going to my Family, and spend it here, to keep this community running. I have been attacked for needing help, and asking those who frequent here for it. I've been called out of my name, and accused of all kinds of ugly low-down dirty things. Yet in spite of this, i still hope for a place and time, where the majority of us will recognize the good that is here and be willing to help financially support it.

I see Sisters and Brothers that come here regularly, taking part in the sweet peace, harmony, and Spirit that we've worked hard to provide. I've poured my heart out asking for help, yet only a few have responded. It matters not that many come here every day, talking of unity and supporting our own, for they are not moved to help.

I often think, when i'm thinking like this, that my greater hope may be in vain, that it will not happen, and that this community like so many others built especially for us, will simply die. Folk will go to other places and do there, what they do here, until that place dies and they find another ... because the majority lack any real desire to help sustain what they obviously enjoy. Even though we've been here awhile, my thoughts are that it is not meant for this community to be the one that manifests the kind of support that is needed amongst our people to realize greater things using this technology.

Yes Brother Isaiah, i too know your sadness, but it only lasts for a moment, for that thing which i do, and i'm sure that you do as well, is in us to do. I've found that it has very little to do with what someone else does or does not do. I'm committed to doing my part until i simply cannot do it any longer. Whether it is this community or some other that actually experiences the full support of those who take part in it, i do believe it will happen. It must happen. We have to eventually get to the place where we support our own, both in word and deed. Yeah, if it doesn't happen here, it will happen. I've come to believe that this community may be simply a stepping stone to some other greater effort. To show all of us that it can be done, perhaps a blueprint of how to start it, and it will be up to others to make the greater dream of true unity and support a reality.

I don't believe we should let others direct our path. What is meant for us to do individually, has little to do with what others choose to do or not do.

I love you Brother Isaiah, and i see that Sister Queenie and others have encouraged and helped you past this fleeting moment in time where it seemed like quitting was a reasonable option. They have helped me too. This entire community, we all help each other go through, regardless of what the challenge may be. I just hope that we, and all of our contributions, will be here for many years to come.

Much Love and Peace.

The only way we will remember to honor our ancestors is for us to teach the children their importance. And to do what is neccesary to keep their "spirits" alive

agreed sekhemu..
don't you think this is one way to keep "spirits" alive?
even tho the battle is hard...but like it says the "battle not given to the swift, neither to the strong , but they that endureth....."

How do you think I feel about the lack of support that I get when I post a thread, and very little people pay attention to it? But I don't stop posting threads. We all love our ancestors deep down, but that does not mean that we have to think about it and talk about it every single day. Things take time. I know that I am highly into technology, but I don't get a chance to post anything on there because I peep too much interesting stuff. I realized that this is not exactly the place to talk about computers; there are more interesting stuff to talk about.

Bottom line is, people do care about the past, and our ancestors, but there are more ways to prove it than come online, and start talking about it. People read books and everything else. That is like the gospel rappers crying because everyone wants to hear a street lyric, but they still do it. Just relax now.

Sister Deepy ... gosh, those words were so encouraging .... it says the "battle not given to the swift, neither to the strong , but they that endureth....." ... hmmmm ... holding on, enduring to the end ... thank you Sister. I think i'm having one of those moments.

Brother Isaiah ... i just wanted to share with you that Brother OldSoul's online class, held here every Sunday @ 3 pm ET, which doesn't get nearly the amount of Members in it that it deserves ... well, his topic this past Sunday was Ida B Wells-Barnett and he said that it was your thread,
THE MOTHER OF HUMAN RIGHTS IN AMERICA: MRS. IDA B. WELLS-BARNETT (http://destee.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29617), that encouraged him to speak on her. Of course it was a great presentation and he mentioned your thread a few times. You would have enjoyed hearing him i'm sure, but i just wanted to provide you some evidence of the impact you have, oftentimes without ever even knowing.

As i speak on Brother OldSoul and think of the topic of this thread, i can't help but wonder how he stays encouraged to continue sharing with us every Sunday in voice chat (http://destee.com/chat), when so few show up. When he started there were many times when it was just the two of us, yet he presented his information as though hundreds were listening. It's grown some since then, but it is still only a few that come, compared to the thousands we have here. He does not seem to be discouraged, in fact, he is doing more, not less. He has a special event scheduled tonight, an effort to help our people move beyond some of the conditioning we've been subjected to. I do hope you'll be able to join in his special online presentation tonight in voice chat.

As i type this, i'm having one of those moments that you had, that prompted the creation of this thread. I wonder why we don't take advantage of the great resource of voice chat. There are very few sites like ours, and even fewer still that provide voice chat technology. We have the ability to actually talk to and hear each other, discuss the issues that concern us in real time. Yet folk aren't coming (like i'd hoped). It costs me money each month and i wonder if i should just stop paying for it, that perhaps it isn't what folk want or need. I've thought this way before because this is not a new concern, it's always been this way and we've had voice chat for almost 2 years, yet i've not quit providing it. I suppose one day the Sisters and Brothers in this community will see some value in it and come in.

Yeah, this is a good thread Brother Isaiah, thank you for starting it. Thank you for starting them all.

thank you sista destee...glad it helped you too....really amazing what one can find in those biblical books...and what those glorious old gospel songs sent forth...really wonderful how so many things help in our survival...and brother isaiah this is one...(
(i started a haiku thread called ancestral honors...hopefully as we call out names in l7 syllables it will encourage some to come to this thread...since we only have a moment to call them)
oh yes
sista destee...maybe some have the same problem i do...the inability to enter voice chat...but even that will eventually change...

The purpose of our journey
we may not know till the end
but the pleasures and pains
of making the journey is
the story we must tell.
So much of what you share
you'll never know how many and how far it will reach.
For me, it is the joy of sharing information,
some so beautiful, inspiring, enpowering, encouraging,
that I know it will help one person somewhere, sometime
and they cant give me the chair for it...yet

Brother Isaiah ... while this forum, Honoring Our Ancestors (http://destee.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=142), has not been consistently used for the exclusive purpose of lifting up, and saying out loud, the names of those who have gone before us ... that is my hope for it.

I don't want it to be a history forum too.

I would prefer that the Reclaiming Our Stolen Culture Forum (http://destee.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=188) be used for history, and i've changed the name accordingly (Our History & Culture).

We'll be moving any threads from this forum, to whichever is appropriate, that do not specifically lift up an Ancestor.

Hoping you find this acceptable.

Much Love and Peace.

Here's maybe one reason why this thread should not be shut down.

I had never heard of Ida B. Wells until reading Destee's post and clicking on the link to Bro. Isaiah's thread. Now I am encouraged to know more and share that knowledge with others.

If we have reached only one out of many, then our job is done.
Thank you Destee and Bro. Isaiah.
