View Full Version : Geeks : Do You Use Dialup or Broadband?
Destee 10-11-2004, 02:21 AM Hello Family,
Now that we have these audio files playing on the home pages of the community, i'm wondering how many of us are using dialup and how many of us are using broadband.
These audio files will slow the load of the page for those on dialup, but those on broadband will hardly notice any difference. The files are about 18 seconds of sound.
If you are on dialup, is it messing with your cyber experience considerably, and you'd rather they not be there?
For those that may not know, dialup is when you use your phone line to dial into your Internet Service Provider via a modem. Broadband is dsl, cable, etc., usually a 24/7 connection to the Internet.
Please be sure to vote in the poll above, and post your comments (if any) below.
Thanks a Bunch.

NNQueen 10-11-2004, 08:16 AM Wow...at home right now, I don't have either, but when I was connecting I was using dial-up and it is sooooooooooooooo slow. I'm at work now though and you sound great Destee! :)
Broadband is the only way to go.
Destee 10-12-2004, 03:32 AM I've removed the files for now, due to the following request:

I have tha cable modem so yall talk FAST! lolol
MANASIAC 10-12-2004, 12:46 PM Yea yall I got dat slow and pitiful dialup, until I get this film project in order, it is gone be dial up for a minute, but I think Des that you could possible recompress the audiofiles to be more suitable for dialup connections, or create a script which detects the speed of each user and properly plays the file for each speed.
toylin 10-12-2004, 01:58 PM Dial-up. Blah. Just wait until next year. Just wait!

DCBob 04-21-2005, 03:46 PM I agree. Dial up is such a pain these days. I have really been spoiled.
lewis 05-02-2005, 04:01 PM I can't stand dial-up anymore. College spoils people these days. So I am dishing out $$ to Comcast for it but thats what you gotta do.
DCBob 05-02-2005, 06:22 PM I think I gynxed myself the other day. My boradband has been so slow all day.
Monetary 05-11-2005, 12:25 PM I have broadband now. My dialup through the university wasn't that bad though. I think they're providing better service to students, faculty and alumni.
Dialup is terrible when downloading. I couldn't stand it. That, eventually, is what pushed me into getting broadband. That and a better job to pay for it.
dexxtreme 05-29-2005, 08:05 PM Broadband (Roadrunner Cable Internet, peaks out at around 4-5mbit/s :shades: ). I haven't been on dialup for about half a decade. Besides, working in the Internet industry usually doesn't allow you to have anything other than broadband.
MieNYu 06-09-2005, 01:48 PM Definitely broadband -- i even get annoyed when my broadband is a couple of secs slow -- I dont know how I ever was able to deal with dial up
