Great thread MrBlak....and good question!

Hmmm...as I "configurate" on the options you provided, you might want to consider adding one: All of the above. I suggest that because that the option I would choose, although I don't argue on message boards...well, not anymore ...but I do love a good debate and find that I learn a great deal from them!

Whatcha think?

Great idea....but for some reason...the poll itself cannot be edited after posting. I edited my first post to let people know of their new choice....thanks to you!!!

I would have to agree with brother Rich and say all of the above! Certain things you can only learn at school, other things you learn on the street. You can always learn by having conversations with people more experienced and wiser than yourself (which always exist, even if you have a Ph.D, and are a so-called expert in your field). You can learn from joining political groups. Knowledge can be (and should be) gained from anyplace!

I have to agree with Rich and Pan ....life is a learning process everyday you may learn something you didnt know the day before....all is not learned in school you see they skip alot of our history but yet we learn...so we learn from each other....even with jobs you go in knowing but you still learn more of that area as you grow in that skill or skills.... same as going to college for one field as you grow in that field you learn more....knowledge is taught/learnt in many ways....

all of the above I would also say

Peace
Angel

I have to say all of the above also. However, my biggest factor is through life experiences. Through each process I have lived and learn from them.

All of the above have a role in what I know today but it's the personal life experience of each that hold's the greatest impact.

I agree with the majority so far, all of the above. What holds the greatest impact depends upon the type of knowledge that is being focused on.

@everyone....

Really???.....interesting.

I thought it would be more of a mix of answers. I myself voted "life experiene". When someone screws up as much and as often as I do.....they have no choice but to learn from their mistakes or their life will completly fall apart and they will self destruct.

Thanks for all the replies.

The key is, MrBlak, we don't just learn from our own mistakes; we also have to learn from eachother's mistakes. We are all human beings, and we can all make the same mistakes, and find the same ways to correct those mistakes.

As far as Knowledge goes, I learn from all of the above, and then some. I am well observant of my surroundings, I keep my eyes ans ears open when they need to be, I encounter the right people, places, and things, I stay in school, my nose is glued to the books, and most of all, and I mean most of all, I have God on my side. Between me and him, I can be capable of learning anything.

Being observant is something I am good at. I was always an outsider since my early teens and it allowed me to sit back and observe alot....I avoided many problems by having an understanding of people around me....but I also now pick up on things that make me bitter and more social phobic than I already am.....I guess sometimes it is good to NOT pay such close attention.....only sometimes though.

Thanks for posting cedric

Yeah, that's true. I am the same exact way. You'd think that being alone it is boring, but guess what, not this brotha. I never needed any friends. That's why I am too far away from being in the in-crowd. But being an outsider, I am capable of making a difference in my life, my familie's lives, and society. Being a member of the Destee Family is one of the many things that prove it. Everyone on Destee in my opinion, are among the most influential people that you can know.

But back to the topic.

I have an affinity for education, and have a future that involves more knowledge than anything else.

My knowledge comes from a little of everything...but I'm still learning. This is an interesting group of people here at Destee...I've been having a ball increasing my knowledge.

While I have learned much of my knowledge through life exoeriences. The things that I know about my history and decent has come from many people off destee, as well as friends that I have that are more knowledgeable than me. Most of the things I display in my poetry is not only an extention of me it is an extention of what I have been taught.

Much love

My main source of knowledge at this point in my life comes from discussions...not arguments or debates...just discussions. I enjoy a great conversation in chat or among friends. The most information and realization I've ever learned and confirmed...in my mind...comes from people opening up and sharing their experiences...pure and unadulterated; sometimes, to the point of crying. Sharing life's experiences gives us to know that we're not going through things alone.

I'm Monetary...and that's my 2 cents on this topic. :D

All of the Above. Though I voted Self Study; because trying to figure out my own SELF (Know Thy Self) has helped me learn much about the world around me.

Information that I use does come from some outside sources, but my data comes from a combo of all the choices. My main objectives have included trying to unlock that knowledge that lies within that all are born with,to me information and knowledge are to different things.

Interesting topic.
I say we get pretty much all of what we call our “knowledge” from life experience. But we really don’t “know” anything. Isn’t it all just varying degrees of “belief.” Example: I believe that 2+2=4. I believe so because every time I’ve added 2 of something to 2 of something in the past I’ve gotten four of something. In actuality it’s just a memory and it does not “prove” that the very next time I add 2 to 2 in the future I’ll get the same answer. The degree of consistency and the amount of times one has experienced something "should" determine a person’s degree of belief. But essentially it’s all a gamble, and boils down to trial and error.

I believe that Black African people have been the undisputed leaders of this world in the past, and I believe that Black Africans will again be so in the not too distant future. I say this not because I wish this to be true, or that I would like this to be true, but because I have observed that Black people have dominated every microcosm that I have ever seen us put our energy into (social interaction of every kind, music, dance, sports, academics, comedy, fashion, spiritual pursuits, etc.) I have also observed that keeping Black people down requires a great and continuous effort by those who believe that they stand to gain by maintaining this condition. I can also see that Black Oppression (I don’t use the term “White Supremacy.” It is a misnomer.) is only successfully maintained by utilizing lies. Why I say that Black people will again become world leaders in the “not too distant” future is because lies, by their own nature, are of course transient and ephemeral. This is an example of a belief that I have.

Beliefs/knowledge based on anything that you haven’t seen/experienced, or cannot see/experience is blind. So it bothers me very much when I hear brothas/sistas stating things that they cannot possibly know/have seen/experienced. Example #1: READING SOMETHING IN A BOOK IS NOT KNOWLEDGE, and espousing a belief/idea that one has obtained from simply reading a book is dishonest and dangerous. You flagrantly run the risk of not only misleading yourself, but also of misleading others. Rule #1 of the 16 laws of Ifa state that a Babalawo (priest/teacher) should not say what he/she does not know. I do not state this as an absolute truism, but I can see great wisdom in this way of thinking, and it would also seem to come from a source that I tend to trust, my own people. How can any of us possibly “know” much of anything about a person who lived, or was “supposed to have lived, 2,000 or 3,000 years ago? Such information can be useful, but it still amounts to simply an idea or suggestion. I prefer to say things as "according to _____," or "in my opinion _____," or "I have observed that _____." It sometimes gets a little difficult to express thoughts in this way, but I do my best. :spin:
