Just in case this one gets lost in the shadow of Bernard Hopkins vs Oscar DeLa Hoya, Roy Jones fights on the 25th of this month. His opponent will be Glencoffe Johnson for the IBF Light Heavyweight belt. Johnson is a good fighter...but I don't see him giving RJJ too much of a hard time. I predict a decision win for Roy Jones! This fight should give him the confidence he needs for the 3rd fight with Antonio Tarver.

Glencoffe Johnson could probably be classified as a journeymen fighter, until he won the vacant IBF Lt. Heavyweight title earlier this year. He was spent most of his career between Middleweight & Lt. Heavy. He is a decent fighter, who can be most Lt. Heavies out there now. He is in his mid-30s (same as Roy), and has a mediocre record of 40-9. However to be honest a lot of his losses, he probably won. I know at least 2 of these losses should have been wins, because I saw the fights myself. His biggest fight up to his title win was a knockout loss to Bernard Hopkins 7 years ago (the only fight Glencoffe Johnson admitted to being outclassed). Here is a website about him:

Yeah, I think Glen will be pissed at losing the title after winning it recently. Too bad. That's the breaks.

I just hope that Roy is ready...is up to the challenge. I know he's been knocked out before...but...how can he handle it after all the wins, all the championships...all the money and fame. His ego has been broken. Now, he must stand on pride...and not ego.

We'll see what happens. I wish him the best though.

I don't think Roy Jr. will have any problem with this cat because of the way Antonio put him to shame.....I just hope Roy Jr realizes that he needs to start keeping them hands up..I know he's quick and all but everyone can be timed if the other fighter is patient enough and can counter well....I see no problem walking through this dude though....

In my first fight I had a unstoppable fight plan......until I got hit..

This is 100% correct brother Red. Many people feel that Roy is washed up because Tarver knocked him out. Nothing could be further from the truth!! Roy was winning the fight when Tarver hit him with a perfect counter! Roy was open to this counter because he has poor defense! Roy has always had bad defense; however, in his younger days his speed was so incredible...it allowed him to get away with his technical flaws. Now at 35 (going on 36) Roy has slowed down a step, and his technical flaws (defense & the lack of a jab) are more obvious. If Roy makes some minor changes to his technique...he can dominate again until his retirement!

I think Roy needs more than a decision to boost his confidence, he needs a knockout. I do want to see him fight Tarver again though...

Now that the Hopkins fight is over, it is time to focus on Roy Jones again. Here is a link to an article about his training camp for the Glencoffe Johnson fight:

I'm glad Roy didn't that knockout ruin him well at least not as far as we know anyway...I love Roy Jr. to death and know that he is one of the best fighters ever in his time...(he just came along at a time when there weren't a lot of great fighters but he beat most that were put in front of him) but some of his bad habits are going to kill him....like I said in this thread earlier he gotta keep them hands up and elbows tight...on the fourth picture of that article he's throwing the right with his left down around his waist leaving himself wide open ..if he's in there with Antonio again or someone with quicks and power something like that will be exploited and he may find himself on his back looking at the pretty lights once again....as for fighting Klitschko..(sp) I don't think that's the smartest thing in the world to do John Ruiz was an easy mark for Roy..doesn't move much not a real skilled boxer not a lot of power not hard to hit..Klitschko is a very skilled boxer has good power in both hands and is a pretty hard man to put down I honestly don't think Roy would fair too well in there with a true talented heavyweight especially one that can box outside and then come in and pound ...skilled heavyweights are truly dangerous men especially with the weights in that division touching 240 and up these days..

Let me go and order the fight if it's PPV. I want to see how he fairs in his first fight after the knockout.

Goodnight Roy...hate to be the prophet of bad fortune but Glen Johnson Winner KO........Right hand over Roy Jr's ridiculously low left hand just like in the last post about the photos...Roy's bad habit of keeping that left low killed him that Tarver KO wrecked him..changed his fighting style forever I only hope Roy retires and focuses on Gamecocks now...Oh as a sidebar saw the Dhop de la hoya replay......B-Hop at 39 is a puredee man....fought his fight then actually called his round...before the 9th in his corner he was saying "this is my round" beautiful....appreciate B-Hop like we should appreciate Barry we're watching one of the best ever do his thing and right at 40 looks no worse for the wear...de la hoya on the other hand was tired and done after the 5th fighting with his mouth wide open......classic sign of a tired man in the ring....sad for Roy jr but tonight was one of the best fight nights I saw on HBO in a while....

No doubt brother Red! By the way, this subject now has a new thread....this shocking KO defeat is too big to remain in a "preview" thread. Refer to this one instead:
