Can somebody explain to me why Florida produces such great football players??? It cannot be because it is so hot down there, that all guys can do is work out all year round... it's hot in a lot of other places, but they aren't producing football players like those that come outta Flawda, as Manasiac would say... Y'all got any explanations for Florida's preemminence as a football factory???

Peace!

Being a Florida Resident, I guess the answer is simple. We love football. Football is the heart, soul and mind of Florida sports in my opinion. I walked onto a college football team without any organized football experience, why? Because most of our best sandlot players are better than entire football programs.

We are like NY to Basketball.

U ain't never lied man I played with alot of brothers that were from Florida or went to schools in Florida and it just seem to be amazing the natural ability most of them have! But Florida ia a football state and everyone there seems to play the sport like in Ny everyone seems to have born with a basketball and hops! :bomb:

Yo, I was over a friend's house, just kickin' it, while BET had this piece on about Clinton Portis's Big annual Barbeque in his old neighborhood, and I happen to overhear him intro-ing all of these cats he grew up with, and who now play in the NFL - like it seemed like there was a zillion guys, man(LOL!) And they didn't all go to U. of Miami, Fla... It was quite amazing, because I happen to know that all of the cats from U.Miami, Fla. weren't at Portis's place that day... The state is awesome for producing great football talent... U.Miami Fla, of course, draws cats from all over the country who are bad-*****, so I don't really count their program... But the big 3 schools down there are tremendous because of Florida Football players, no doubt...

PEACE!~

I, Cedric Denson, was born in New York (where the basketball talent is) and now reside in Florida (where the football talent is). As an athlete who plays football and basketball, and could have went to uF on scholarship, I have plenty to say about this. So if you think that I don't have anything interesting to say, then you are dead wrong.

Up in New York, the High School that I graduated from has one of the best Basketball programs in the State of New York, and among America's finest. I was apart of the basketball program the year after they won the State Championship. When I moved to the city back in 1997-1998, they also won the State Championship. So the whole time I was in that city, all they did was have unbeaten seasons and win Big 10 Championship trophies. But let me get to the point.

Let me start with New York and Basketball.

Up in New York, we play Basketball all year round. During the fall - Conditioning, During the winter - Basketball Season, During the spring - Intramurals, and during the summer - Summer League/AAU. When we are not int he game with uniforms on, we are on the neighborhood Basketball courts running full-court from morning to sometimes 11 p.m. As far as the school teams go, we stick together. We don't just play basketball; we watch film, we learn from our former class that goes on to D1-A colleges of film. We have dinner together, we are another Family! That is how dedicated out program coaching staff are. Weight Rooms are open all year long. Sure we watch the NBA, but we learn from college, and it makes us better. Then you have the younger kids selling out tickets at our home games, and as they sit in their seats and watch us play, they adapt to the basketball program and philosophy. They too become family. Also, on Saturdays, we have Basketball clinics in the morning at the school, where we teach younger kids the fundamentals of Basketball in the Patriot's way. We stick together all year round, and we play ball with eacother....all year round. The obvious thing is, out of the 13-14 slots that need to be filled up, at least 10 of those people all live in the same neighborhood, play on the same court, learn from the same people. We don't have one-man teams; we all learned together. take a look at Jason McKrieth at the Rice University in Houston, TX. He went to the same school that I went to. He was a part of the last State Championship team that we won. We know played ball together, we were at the same court, and we learn from the same people. Rashaun Freeman (Ray-Ray) at UMass. I was apart of the program when he was on the team. We played on the same court, came from the same neighborhood, and me and him have known eachother for about 6 years now. Then you have James Thomas (st Texas) and Willie Deane (who went to Greece to develop NBA skills). Two years ago, they were both leaders on the team at the same time (not to mention McKrieth). And at the school that I attended further upstate, Josh Wright (Syracuse), playing Basketball all year-round. Those are just a few examples, now back to the question.

I went to Florida Gator's Football Camp last year. The chemistry between the coaching staff and the players is very good. This is Florida. Yes, the sun does shine every time you get up in the morning and look out the window, but the sun is just natural source that is there. Ask Manasiac, he will tell you that it is not the sun, its how they USE the sun. There are up to 20-something schools a city down here. They all have football fields. These kids get on those fields and run their hearts out. Also, while I was at Football Camp, there were large amounts of kids running those bleachers. That is where they get the speed and power in the legs from. You go to any Florida college, go to the stadium area, and observe, you will see at least 5 people running up and down the bleachers, no matter what age they are. Then they support their teams. They go to the games (which to some are too close by) and they interact with the players. I was at football camp with linemen who made Warren Sapp and Jerome McDougle and all them look like nothing, or they were a good reflection of them. When they are not playing football, they are running or lifting. The programs down here believe in that. People like Manasiac can definitely outline that to you. Even when it rains, they love it. They play it safe too. Sometimes I will go to a specific park, and at that park, they have a Pop Warner site. At that site, it can rain hard, and you will still see the kids running hard and hitting hard. They grow up to be like that, and they are monsters by their senior years! That is why this is a football State! Nothing is bigger or better than football season around here. Academics, yes, they do their work, but they breeze through the school day, and straight onto the Football field. Don't think that Florida is the only Football State, Cali is right up there with them. Ever watch the Florida/California Bowl? You should. Very talented young men in that game.

Yo, Ced, I agree with you on Cali and TEXAS, as well... Oh, and by the way, New Jersey and Ohio turn out some outstanding football talent... Pennsylvania's up in there too...

Florida, however, turns out ALL_WORLD football players!!!!!! Scary type a brothers, with crazy speed and size... Lawd Have Mercy!!!(smile!)

New York City used to be a big basketball factory, but I believe the rest of the country, not to mention the rest of the world, now turns out incredible talent for the hardwood... Michael was BORN in the city, but he wasn't here but for as long as it took mama to pack dem bags, and git on back down to Kakalaka, know what I'm sayin'???(smile!) He didn't learn how to play the game here... Also, look at the cats who come outta Detroit, Steve Smith, Derrick Coleman, Jalen Rose, C-Webb, and Chicago, as well... Cali turns out some outstanding Basketball cats, too... Basketball's a city game, so most of the best players come from urban environments... As Black folk became more urbanized over the last 100 years, the players now come from all over the country, and whole helluva lot of
em come from the south... Wasn't like that 30 years ago, but stuff changes...

Peace!

Now I've actually had this discussion with my Flawda (that's how they say it) boys and they believe it's because of the weather. Take EJ from the Colts for example. He grew up in the Glades tossing watermelons on trucks for work. Building an NFL body on a daily basis. Chicago produces the hoopers because it's cold as heck 9 out of the 12 months of the year and all we have are the inside gyms. Florida also has a strong base for football in their education system. You're a Seminole or a Gator...you're raised football down there. Florida has football history and no one down there seems to be letting that tradition go anytime soon. I grew up in Chicago...so you know what I was playing.
