Hello Family,

Several have asked about that "rep power" and what it means ... and to tell you the truth, i really don't know ... i don't think it means much at all ... gosh ... i don't have much myself if you'll notice ... it's no big deal, just a new feature that came with the latest upgrade of the forum software.

I started this thread so we could talk about it ... the Mods know a little about it and hopefully they'll share ... i know a little too, but i'm sleepy right now ... just wanted to get this thread started and let you all know that you should not get yourselves in a tizzy about it ... always remember ... it's your warm, sweet, kind, loving personality that represents the power ... let there be no mistake about that!

What is reputation?

Reputation is a way of rating users depending on the quality of their posts. If the administrators have enabled reputation, then the reputation icon will be visible in posts.

Reputation may be positive Positive Reputation Icon , negative Negative Reputation Icon or neutral Neutral Reputation Icon. Negative reputation may only be given if the administrator has enabled this. Neutral reputation is only given when the person giving reputation does not meet the criteria set by the administrator to affect someone else's reputation.

How do I give reputation?

To give reputation, click on the reputation icon in the relevant post. This will reveal a form to complete with the reputation type and the reason for giving the reputation. If negative reputation is disabled then it will not be displayed in this form. You may not give reputation for the same post twice.

How do I know what reputation I have received?

You can view the reputation that you have received in your User CP (User Control Panel) where it is displayed at the bottom of the User CP page. Here you will see the latest reputation that you have received and whether this is positive, negative or neutral. Your total reputation will be shown as series of reputation indicators in your posts and profile. The more positive your reputation, the more positive icons will be shown. The more negative your reputation the more negative icons will be shown.

How much reputation is given? What is reputation power?

If the administrator has enabled this, the amount of reputation that each user will give (or take away if negative) is shown in the user's posts as 'Reputation Power'. The value of the reputation power is determined by the administrator and may increase over time depending on the settings they have applied.

What if I don't want anyone to see my reputation?

You can disable the display of your reputation by going to your User CP and selecting Edit Options. On this page you will find a check box labelled 'Show Your Reputation Level'. Un-checking this box will remove the display of your reputation and replace it with the Reputation Disabled icon. You can still give and receive reputation while your reputation display is disabled.

Well, I do know that when you click on the little scale icon over a person's info, you can approve or disapprove of a certain post, and you can add comments about them. I'm thinking that the more times people click that little icon over your name, you get points (or have them taken away.). Also, I'm guessing that it may have something to do with how active you are. *shrugs* Just a guess.

Well, Mr. Blak and I chatted about it one afternoon. That's what we came up with. (I hope you don't mind me using your name, Mr. Blak. :) )

I think rep power represents good points and responses. I watch this show in ESPN called "Around the Horn", and they hand out points to National Sports Columnists who make good points on a topic or a segment. I am thinking about it in that way. It just shows how strong your character is. You post good ideas, interesting topics, and such, I believe it goes up.

i just noticed my little raggedy 5 reputation points skyrocketed to 50!

and i said to myself ... "self, somebody dun gave us some reputation!"

and self said ... "well, we betta go check and see who"

Why is mine dead?

yeah one day i had none and looked up it was flying beside me
saying i'm yours when to my user CP stroll down and look wow!
y'all gave me some love .

I think it work when others give u some love and approve your post or reply
the numbers go up and it counts on your activity too it also give in your CP
points when you stroll down you will see everyone that gave it and how many
points you have the little cloud looking icon is how u give it in a member post
in the top right hand corner click it and a window open up for you to reply in
you can spread only like 5 within 24 hours before you can give more out and
before you can give it again to the same member you have to spread some
reputation around give love to others before hitting them again !

what i don't get yet is why some have one green dot and some have 5 or 7
i think it's to be that you have to give some out the love you know and the more
you give the dots will go away back to one so all y'all with lots of green dots
need to give the love up it show u not giving any to folks or it could be that
when others give it to you they add up but i notice when i spread some mines drop
i had 5 dots and i give love on da down low ya know and they went away !
still trying to understand it fully and what the points for can i buy something
with these points ????????

Don't fret girl. I only have four. But I like this system of love now that I understand it. I'ma start giving some.

I'M STILL CONFUSED AS TO HOW AND CHECK WHO IS GIVING THE REP POWER. GO TO CONTROL PANEL AND THEN WHERE? HELP MEEEEEE. THANKS.

Notice in the top right hand corner of each post in a thread, you will see the following:

1. the post number
2. an image that links to where you can give someone reputation
3. an image that will report a bad post - one in violation of our rules

If you click on that reputation image, a popup menu will appear and you can give good reputation to that Member's post. It allows you to leave a few words as well.

If a person wants to view the reputation others have given them, they can go into their control panel (http://destee.com/forums/usercp.php) and it should be right there in front of them ... all recent reputation given and the text included. This way you know who gave it to you and on what post of yours they felt it was deserved.
