Terry lay in waram comfort, contemplating the cold room that waited for her outside her blanket. She did not want to get up. Cold air slid under the covers, then ran a cool course up her lege, over mountains, through valleys and down the chasm of her spine where the north wind meets the south. She closed her eyes thinking that if she lay still for another five minutes she might remember what she had been dreaming about. What it was? Someone was kissing her in a dream. She tried to recapture the deep voice, strong hands, piercing eyes but she was too much awake. She sat up and looked around, still searching for that dream but it was gone. Nothing was left but reality--the cold reality of an empty oom.

Just cross the way lay a dear friend, inside his own slumber awaiting
his nighten gal of beauty from the depth of his heart laying still covered
in the moment of rapture, she was his sleeping beauty where her warmth
caresses but billy boy knew he was dreamin the room was cold and dark
out of the shadow from the flicking candle light was an image as it brush
his face and stroke him gentle the cool breeze swoop upward sending a
massive chill, yet comfort between snors and tiny movement he awaken
to the silent brisk and the clapping window pane and the owl hooting he
knew his reality and was shaken from this dream.

The phone rang. Terry smiled to herself as she answered. "Hello?" "Hello, sweetheart. Dreaming of me again?" Terry wanted to come up with a witty reply, but, she wasn't even going to try to front. He was always making guest appearances during her slumber. "Yes, babe, just like every other night." He laughed. "Well, you know I was dreaming of you as well." She laughed. "Well, you know, you could come on over, and then we wouldn't have to dream about it any more." He said, "I'll be right over." Terry wrapped herself tightly in her blanket, anticipating the deep embrace that surely awaited her.

In another bedroom, not far away, a lonely heart reread an old tattered letter. The letter ended with these words....I will never regret our time together, Curtis, and I'm so happy that we can somehow remain friends. Love, Terry. How he missed her. Curtis couldn't help but remember her soft skin and sweet embraces. He grimaced at the thought of her new love, Billy taking hold of what was once his. I was such a fool, he thought, as the empty bottle of gin slipped from his hands onto the rug, beside the tattered letter.

Such a fool. And all the time I was thinking she was the fool. All the time I thought I had the deck marked. Then she called out gin.

Curtis stumbled to the window and watched the fallen leaves playing in the driving breeze. It was Sunday but there was no sun. Just a brightness that looked like warmth but contained only the chill of invisible winds.

Terry and Billy were in the throes of passion. Legs intertwined, sheets snarled, sweat glistening. They were getting loud, too. Not just one of them, but both. Voices rising, they didn't realize it, though. Ascending to the top, the tip top....both screamed together.

At the same moment, across the city, Curtis awoke suddenly from his deep sleep and sat up.

"I have to get her back," he said to the empty room.

On the other side of town, Carla got up and closed the window. A little too brisk tonight, she thought. The chill in the air reminded her of a similiar night, the night she and Billy made love on the terrace. That night still makes her cheeks feel hot, so passionate, so intense they were. But now, it's over, and the only inkling of him that may still lay inside of her, is the one thing that might make him return. Once again, Carla runs to the bathroom, sick to her stomach, as she has been every morning for the past week.

But would he believe her? Someone had done that to him before--tried to get his commitment with a baby that never showed up. No, Carla told herself. If it's there then I just have to let it come and let Billy see himself in the baby's face. If it has Billy's one of a kind nose and almost orange hair the whole world will know who the daddy is. Billy has his DNA growing on his head as do all his brothers and his father. Funny thing if you walk up to a guy and tell him you've got twenty dollars that might belong to him and you think it does he won't ask to see proof but a life that comes out of his own loins he doesn't value as high as twenty bucks. Carla knew she had to think smart and get that Terry-able woman out of her man's life.

"Lou",a gentle quiet voice murmered..Her heart dropped right into the john."Lou..wait" wait she cried and thought to herself "I forgot about you!"

After zipping her pants Carla slowly walked to open the door.Lou tilted his head and leaned up against the door frame.Carla motioned for him to came in and searched the hall outside of her apartment to see if anyone was coming."What are you doing that for,"he asked sitting down on her white leather couch."No reason, just a little jumpy today."Carla was upset she wanted to be alone to have time to think to herself and Lou invaded that privacy."Look,I've done some thinking last night La La and well,I want us to be together for a long time and...."Carla shook her head before saying,"No don't,don't do it."With confusion Lou dropped his head in his rough hands from a hard days work and cursed under his breath."Can you please leave,I'll call you,"Carla said opening the door.

she leans against the door a sudden fear attacks her legs and she buckles..
"i was so sure...but" crawling to the sofa..and in the position of prayer she folds her hands and lets her head rest in them "It was a crazy weekend..I did .....oh God"..she screams "Whose is it...it's got to be..Please let it be..Billy...Billy"
Billy felt a jolt..like lightning touch him...nothing there...and yet, some new tension had just hit him..some new fear he had to protect. Keep that front intact. He felt suddenly very old climbing the stairs

Carla getting back to talking to Lou told him to stay. She invited him to sit on the couch while she prepared some coffee. When she was finished she came back to the living room where Lou had been and she put her hand on his and said "Lou u know i love you, but you can't keep coming in and out of my life whenever u feel the need". He understood so then he got down on one knee and proposed to Carla with a 14k diamond platinum ring. He said "Carla, will u have me as ur husband"? All she could do was cry. Then she finally let out a "yes". She hugged him and gave him a long passionate french kiss.

tears from carla and softly spoken tone as she look into his eyes deeply
he said Carla my love i vow my heart and soul as she saw a sparkle tear
in his eyes she knew it was real.....

Curtis decided it was high time he confronted Terry and her Billy Bob. What a headache, he thought as he stumbled into the shower. As the water cascaded across his skin, he thought of how he and Terry used to shower together. He would delicately take her body and lather her, bit by bit. She would do the same, never missing one crevice...he sighed. He threw on some jeans, a t-shirt, and some of the cologne she really liked. As he drove to her apartment, Curtis tried to rehearse what he was going to say.

That jolt that he received climbing Carla's stairs, felt like a bad omen. Billy quickly did an about face and returned for more of what he really craved. Their midnight rendevous turned into a morning serenade, as Terry and Billy rolled from the bed onto the floor, still entwined. Not missing a note, Billy was the fervent bow, and Terry, the violin, enjoying every string being stroked. "Oh my God!" they cried in unison, as Curtis stood at the front door whincing at the sounds of their pleasure. He could feel the blood rush to his face, as he reached deep into his coat pocket.

he didn't hear the footsteps behind him, so engulfed was he in their sounds. he didn't see the men, one almost bending over and the other with darting eyes looking his way. His hand in his pocket, his mind, his heart, in pain..the pain...pain..He didnt realize the pain had travelled from his brain to his back at the sudden thrust of the knife plunged in.

Curtis felt himself fall to the ground. He felt the taller men fumble in his pockets, looking for his wallet. Tall Boy snagged the prize and tossed it to Look out. "How much?" Tall Boy asked. Digging greedily into the leather wallet, Look Out's look of triumph quickly turned to one of disgust. "$35? $35!" Look Out kicked Curtis in the ribs, ignoring the blood that landed on his shoe. "I should kill you, " he screamed. Tall boy hushed him loudly. Inside the house, the sounds stopped. Terry asked, "Billy, did you hear something?"

silence enveloped the air...curtis could only feel the vibration of his breathing...Terry asked again "Billy, wasn't that a noise outside the door"
"I only heard you love" billy replied...Terry thought...something is happening i can feel it.
Curtis could not move his upper body he knew if he turned the wrong way it would be over...and suddenly he remembered he had legs...a wisp of a smile came "how could i forget those"? He tried moving one leg toward the door.
