View Full Version : Relationships : Men that can't....ummm.....cook!
NNQueen 06-17-2004, 10:05 AM Sisters! Would you ever marry or date a man that couldn't cook? What if the man in your life couldn't cook, what would you do? Would you get tired of cooking all the time or eating out?
And when I write "cook", sisters I don't mean only in the kitchen so feel free to broaden your scope and thoughts on the question. :D
Peace,
Queenie ....
PurpleMoons 06-17-2004, 10:38 AM LOL! Sister Queenie
I hear ya!
If I date a man who can't cook all havoc would break out, because sister, Sometimes I just don't have the patience or the desire to be standing over a hot stove after working all day.
If he's knows how to eat, he better know how to cook sumpt'em! If brother got it going on upstairs and respect the fact that just because I am a women does'nt mean that cooking is my obligatation. I would teach him how to cook any way he wants! hehehe! But if brother ain't bringin understanding and mental support to the table,

Joyce 06-17-2004, 12:32 PM Queen...That's how I was won over. They say the best way to a man's heart is through his stomach. Well that's the route my husband took, among other things. He was looking for a wife, while I was looking for nothing but a good time. He changed all dat though. And to this day...he does most of the cooking. He enjoys it...why mess up a good thing?

angelicsage 06-17-2004, 01:05 PM Well, quite naturally you want him as perfect as possible in all areas particularly, intellect, spirituality, yada yada yada…but when it comes to cooking… :coffee:
I love a man that can put it down in the kitchen…I love to sit and watch and then have him serve me. I may seem a little warped but I think it’s the sexiest thing and I prefer that he wear a sleeveless shirt to showcase his arms (if they’re muscular)…*whew, fanning myself at the thought* :spin: Put some music on…and just sit back and wait for a masterpiece to be presented… “it will tantalize every sense, humanly possible” depending on the man…
Because if he’s pulling something frozen out of a box… :nono: well, let’s just say that’s not cooking in my opinion and my senses will be as cold as the meal 20 min after it’s taken from the oven.
However, In my personal experience, I’ve found that if a man can cook, he has patience and is very good with his hands which means he can “COOK” in many, many other areas. :smokin: Just thought I’d throw that in, since you said it wasn’t limited to the kitchen * clearing my throat *
Oops...I didn't answer the question...No, I wouldn't base a relationship on whether he could cook or not...I'm a great cook and I love cooking so that would never be an issue for me. There are too many other important issues that I'd have to look at, the list is a bit "comprehensive" and cooking is not on it. :)
Destee 06-17-2004, 02:17 PM Brother had me think'n i was finna get some crisp, hard, french fries ...

NNQueen 06-17-2004, 03:30 PM I love my sisters 'cause they believe in keeping it REAL! :teach:
Keep it coming y'all!
Queenie
queentswana 06-17-2004, 03:37 PM Would I marry a man that couldn't cook? ...that depends, if he's the man I intend to spend the rest of my life with, yes I would marry him and teach him how to cook ...quite well. I got lucky, my husband cooks circles around me he's a chef, along with many other things.
jazzymoonchild 06-17-2004, 05:24 PM I'm loving this SAGE!!
And I agree with you wholeheartedly, you definitely can't base the relationship on cooking.

Sekhemu 06-17-2004, 06:02 PM I cook, and exceptionally well I'm told :coffee:
panafrica 06-17-2004, 07:08 PM I can throw down in the kitchen! :coffee:
kente417mojo 06-17-2004, 07:25 PM Me too :coffee:
toylin 06-17-2004, 11:15 PM While I won't base a relationship on whether or not he can prepare a meal, I have to agree with Angelicsage..... Generally, (well, personally, I should say) a man who can't cook a decent meal has little patience in other arenas. My soon-to-be-ex couldn't cook to save his life when I met him. When he left me, he could cook Raman noodles and hot dogs. He used to call me Chef-boy-ar-Toya. So, will I date anohter man that can't cook? Hmmm....... I'd have to say that I won't take him out of the running right away, but I don't think it will go anywhere too soon.........
$$RICH$$ 06-18-2004, 01:19 AM lol.....guess i'm out of luck ladies
i am not a cooker but i do blaze u feel me
i can cook a few thing but guess what i can Bake
turtle1 06-18-2004, 02:10 AM I'M A VERY GOOD COOK, BUT IF YOU CAN'T LOOK AT ME BY WHO I AM, AND MY WALK WITH GOD THEN I WOULD FEEL THATTHE PERSON THAT NEEDS TO BE QUESTIONED IS THE PERSON ASKING. LOL, A POT AND PAN WILL NEVER MAKE A MAN OR WOMAN.
MANASIAC 06-18-2004, 09:23 AM I can cook better than most women anyway. Like I said in a post to the other thread. Gender does not determine culinary skill, and if I am not mistaken.
ARENT THE CULINARY MASTERS IN THE WORLD MEN.
So lets stop hating and start appreciating.
If you ever watch the food network just do the math. And how many female Iron Chef's do you know?
caramelpython 06-18-2004, 12:28 PM QQ'n
Well this is a good topic..LOL A man who can....excuse me "cook" huh?
I find that women do love when a man can cook a real mean meal and not somthing frozen..
Me myself I can ... what was the term again? Oh yeah cook.. yes I can do that right there. :)
I learned at a young age and it's fun at times cooking in the kitchen that is.
Problem is somtimes when you cook better than your woman u cant get her back into the kitchen
I just love to spoon my woman..lmao :shades:
angelicsage 06-18-2004, 12:41 PM
You "MEN"....are too much...
We'll see what our thread starter, "The Queen of Queens has to say about all of this "extra" feedback...lol
in the meantime let's keep it coming... :coffee: I'm in the kitchen making coffee...
MzBlkAngel 06-18-2004, 01:25 PM Well I think it is sexy when a man cooks....in the kitchen too
But anyway.
I would teach him how if he couldn't that would be fun... :)
But since he can cook.....hmmm I guess
he will have to pretend he can't cook so we could have fun in the kitchen ....
panafrica 06-18-2004, 05:58 PM Everyone knows that Men are the Kings of the grill!
NNQueen 06-18-2004, 08:27 PM OOooooo...I'm scurred and shaking in my shoes!!!!
SOUNDS LIKE THE CHALLENGE IS ON MY QUEENS!!!!
Our MEN are claiming the IRON CHEF title!!
Are we gonna stand for that? Huh?
Notice not one has mentioned something they are good at cooking and I do believe the question was asked....in the kitchen that is... ;) and, not only THAT...
But since they CLAIM to be such good cooks, how often do you think they do it? Only when THEY feel like it? See, I bet they are really pulling our legs. I bet you when you're not looking, they pull out the mobile phone, call a catering service, rush to beat you home, then take the food out the containers, throw the evidence away and serve the meal up to you as though they slaved over a hot stove to prepare it and take credit for all your "Oooooo's and aaaahhhhh's"...because it's soooo delicious!
Yeah we know don't we sisters!
I'm wondering if they had to prepare a romantic meal for someone, what it would look like...you know, the menu and ALL the trimmings. How do you think they would serve it! On paper plates or fine china? Would you be drinking out of beer mugs or crystal glasses? How many courses would they serve up? Don't you wonder about that too sisters? Whether it's breakfast in bed or a candlelight dinner...be it a special occasion or just any ole occasion...what do you think a menu prepared by Brothers Manasiac, Panafrica, Python, Turtle, Kente and any of the others would be like?
Hmmmmm...something tells me a sister needs to go prepared with a lot of bandaids, cocoa butter cream and ummm...some pepto bysmol for that :uzi: (heartburn) :puke2: (upset tummy) that's gonna hit you in the middle of the night!
Yes, I said it!
Queenie :coffee:
MANASIAC 06-18-2004, 08:49 PM Queen I am gone get you!!!!!
watzinaname 06-19-2004, 10:39 AM Tee Hee at NNQueen...And just because there are more male chefs doesn't mean that men are the best cooks. A person can learn to cook, if they so choose. The ability to cook or not doesn't change whether I love someone, that's just silly. But it would be nice if they could boil water...
MzBlkAngel 06-19-2004, 12:53 PM OOooooo...I'm scurred and shaking in my shoes!!!!

roflol@All yall again......smh @ Des, but I know what you mean..thought I was gettin a footlong, but instead he was a foot short...lolol...smh...been hangin round Des too long...lol
Anyway, I would love to have a man that knew how to cook. If he didn't that's cool if he a plus in other flat surfaced areas...lolol
We could also learn to cook new dishes together.
NNQueen 06-21-2004, 08:01 AM *smh* tsk tsk tsk...See what I'm sayin' Sisters! The only brother that made half an attempt at wining and dining a sister with a home cooked meal made with his own culinary hands is Brother Manasiac. (What, no foot massage as an appetizer or dessert?) Hmmmm...Although I do like Lemon Meringue pie Manasiac, but being that I'm originally from South Florida, I'm sorta partial to Key Lime pie, know what I mean? Oh, and hold the meringue topping on that too because it's too light and poofy. I prefer my key lime pies with whipped cream topping--home made of course! I love it thick, rich and creamy! Mmmmmm!! :D
So, I guess our OTHER brothers are trying to call around to their local Mickey D's to find out how to put together a happy meal, huh? (Let's see, how do you make dem fries again?) Ho..hum!
Well Sisters, looks like there's no need to pull out the fine china anytime soon. I'm disappointed...I knew we had at least a handful of Brothers who were King of the Grill!! :look:
Yours truly,

Hey what's wrong with paper plates. They clean up easy.
 No, I'm just kidding. If it's a nice romantic dinner I use nice plates and nice crystal glasses. I think they're crystal. And I don't put Kool-Aid in the crystal glasses either. Nothing but the best.............Tampico. Hahahahah
No really, if it's a nice dinner a I like serving wine and trying to cook something nice and simple but delicious. Something like Rotisseree Chicken and rice with veggies. I can't burn:flamet: down the house cooking that. I don't cook that everytime, but something that simple. If not, then we can have a nice bowl of cereal....preferably Cookie Crisp with candlelight. I can't do desserts though. We can eat Oreos for dessert until I learn how to bake. :driveby:
MANASIAC 06-21-2004, 12:54 PM LOL AT KENTE WIT TAMPICO!!!!
MANASIAC 06-21-2004, 12:59 PM By The Way Queen, the Foot Massage and all of that stuff, that all happens before the romantic evening. That is all inclusive when rolling with Manasiac.
Remby 06-21-2004, 01:45 PM You guys are incrediably funny, Queenie my sister what can I say, you called the brothers on it. I'm lucky, my man was the head chief in the army, and he owns his own resturant, so I'm a pretty lucky girl :toast:
Remby
MANASIAC 06-21-2004, 01:47 PM Lol@Remby that is awesome madame!
NNQueen 06-21-2004, 01:54 PM Heyyyyyyyyyy Brother Kente, I'd be honored to sit at your dinner table anytime! I love rotisserie chicken...(white meat please) with crispy herb crusted skin and moist and juicy meat inside! Mmmm...and I'd love a grilled vegetable medley to go with that with fresh, warm french bread with garlic flavored olive oil on the side to dip it into. I'm not much of a wine drinker, I'm slightly allergic to the fermentation so I usually stay away from it. But I do love champagne with orange juice though. I find it very refreshing. But typically, a light drink like raspberry iced tea (fresh brewed please, never out of a bottle or can) with fresh crushed mint leaves or maybe even a frozen peach Balini will do me just fine. Do you like music playing in the background when you dine with someone or would that be too much of a distraction for you? What about room lighting? Are we talking paper napkins or linen? When you seat a female dinner guest, how do you call her to dinner and seat her at your table? What do you consider to be appropriate dinner conversation? Is the television playing while you're talking or not?
All other brothers are welcome to respond to any of my additional questions even though I've directed them to Brother Kente based on his response. Hopefully this won't be much of a stretch for any of you! (zing) :D
Yours truly,
Queenie :spinstar:

kente417mojo 06-21-2004, 02:52 PM Heyyyyyyyyyy Brother Kente, I'd be honored to sit at your dinner table anytime! I love rotisserie chicken...(white meat please) with crispy herb crusted skin and moist and juicy meat inside! Man  Let's see....where to start Queen??? I love music in the background. Maybe some nice jazz with the TV off. Room lighting can be with candles or with lights down lower than usual. I don't have linen napkins so we'd use a towel  Just kidding. I have some napkins, I'm not sure what they are made of...maybe linen. They're soft...that's all I know. I'll let her do what she wants while I'm cooking. She can play XBOX for all I care. No really, I like when a woman is chillin watching me burn in the kitchen, but she can watch TV and I'll tell her when it's done and have it ready on the table by the time she get's to it. I think the conversation can be about whatever comes up  I'll speak on anything. I love talking when there is actually good conversation. I like funny, upbeat conversation. Laughing is always good. Queen, you can eat at my table anytime. I have some Rotisserie with your name on it girl. I won't even eat. I'll just wait for you to finish so I can give you a full body massage. That's my dinner. :luvv:
NNQueen 06-21-2004, 03:35 PM See Sisters, we can work with Brother Kente and maybe even Brother Manasiac, ALTHOUGH, with Manasiac, we'd have to strip search him first to make sure he ain't packin' no gun. The brother be sounding as though he's low on patience! :help: (Hmmm..are we sure we want him in the kitchen around all those knives? We might wanna give this some more thought!)
Hmmm...jazz is nice and I like it, but me thinks Marvin Gaye or the Isley Brothers would lend to the ambiance in a better way. But..on second thought, if it's the first dinner date, maybe jazz is the music of choice because it doesn't tend to move you the way Gaye and Ron can. They are more suited to finger foods spread out like a picnic in front of the fireplace. :flirt:
Wow...did someone mention a full body massage? I guess some men do know how to cook, huh sisters? :shades:
Yours truly,

KWABENA 06-22-2004, 08:32 PM DELETED - SEE ME FOR INPUT
toylin 07-07-2004, 01:53 PM Because I'm in Michigan, see? And when my divorce is final, I might be looking for a good meal :shades: Just kidding. Though I am making the switch to vegetarianism these days. I almways wanted to meet a man who can stir-fry with the best of them...............
Toya
NNQueen 07-08-2004, 05:08 PM Hmmm...I thought every brother knew how to "stir fry"! ;)
Queenie :spinstar:
Keita Kenyatta 07-08-2004, 05:47 PM This was a good question, for the reality with me is this: I can outcook a woman any day of the week...but because I used to do it for a business, I now only have certain things that I won't let anyone cook for me but me. My daughter's kinda like that too. There are certain things she likes, and if I don't cook it, she won't eat it anyplace else. But, to keep it real...I would never date or consider marriage to a woman who couldn't cook.
LOL........If a man is doing everything else right, I am sure that 90 percent of women would marry him anyway. Especially if he treated you right and could cook in the bed!!.
Now if a man can't cook in the bed and he doesn't take instruction well because of his fragile ego, I would recommend that you not marry him. Marriages break up for one of three reasons. Poor communication, poor money management, or bad SEX life...PERIOD. And sometimes if the sex life is good enough the communication and money issues are tolerated for a lot longer than normal. So be very clear on what you need your man to cook before you marry him.
KWABENA 08-02-2004, 06:39 PM Call me "Childish", but I learned on Soul Food that good cooking is done from the heart. If you can do that well, then Man or Woman, I don't have a problem with you.

Pharaoh Jahil 09-21-2004, 10:50 PM Peace,
I wouldn't say im a chef but I have a little skills in the kitchen
NNQueen 09-22-2004, 09:04 AM Ahhhhh..this is no time to be modest Brother Pharoah. I bet you have more skills than you're giving yourself credit for. Whether it's a little or lot, it's not about what you call yourself (as in chef), but more about how you work with what you're given. Scrambled eggs versus omelette doesn't mean a thing. It's the "love" you put into the effort that will determine which has the best flavor.
JMO,
Queenie :spinstar:
Isaiah 09-22-2004, 01:46 PM I can throw down in the kitchen! :coffee:
Brotha Pan, what'choo be throwin' down, pots and pans - burnt rice down da toilet bowl, bruh(LOL!) Wassup with all this throwin' down in da kitchen madness... CarrieMonet 09-22-2004, 02:07 PM As much as I love to cook, I don't think I'd care much if HE couldn't. I dont want to be fighting over who's turn it is to make dinner. LOL! I'd be trying to kick him out of the kitchen. :flirt: Unless he was trying to get frisky...well then he could stick around and learn some things.
NNQueen 09-22-2004, 03:03 PM  @ Brother Isaiah...I love it when a man has a healthy imagination! @ 60 minutes....right!
Sister Carrie...I like your style! I'm gonna give you an honorary Ph.D. Go on and teach girl! :teach:
