View Full Version : Sports : Why do you support another state's team?

Most fans usually support the local team. However, there are many sports fans which rabidly support a team which is not in their state. For example, I for one am a Lakers fan. I am originally from Chicago, and was a huge Bulls fan. However, when the Bulls were prematurely broken up by a insane management team (Jerry Krause & Jerry Reinsdorf).....I followed Phil Jackson to LA. In a way I see the Lakers current run as an example of what could have/should have happened in Chicago if Jackson wasn't fired. In cases like these....what makes you support another town's team?

i am a diehard CHICAGO fan for life I love the CUBS // WHITE SOX // BULLS // BEARS
after the bulls crash i followed GARNETT who finish his high school career at
FARRAGUT where i went and watch him and Ronnie Fields play so the T-Wolves
i watch even when Jordan was with Washington i did watch that team
I also go with the closest team to my home town which is Ind. so i'm pulling
for the T-WOLVES & PACERS
when it come to baseball it's all about the Cubs & Sox after they done no other
team come close
they may not be much now but this my team the BEARS Monsters of the midwest
i will continue to ride the waves here i'm a chicago diehard
but yes we really do jump ship fast most time it's the players we like we follow
or who we don't like that makes us jump ship to a new state
i am a Illini fan and a Depaul fan , i always wonder why we jump to other states
and not support our own town team i see lots of split fans in chicago between
baseball southsiders and the northsiders i admit like both but a diehard Cubs fan
great topic brutha i hope to read more on this topic

Well, I dislike the Lakers because I hate the make-up of their team. I can care less if they are in L.A. I don't like Kobe (arrogant, selfish, wanna-be Jordan). I don't like front-runners (Karl Malone and Gary Payton). I don't like floppers (Derek "hit the floor" Fisher). Shaq is cool. He's the man. My favorite players are Latrell Sprewell and Ben Wallace. Both play good defense (even though Kobe put a move on him last night). I use to be a huge Laker fan, but I don't like the players on the roster as much these days. I think one reason also is because even though Shaq does take major amounts of punishment he also gets away with alot of it. The refs look the other way when he has the ball and barrels into the defender. I hate that, but I do like Shaq. Like they say, it's hard to ref the guy, but come on refs...use you eyes. When Kobe, Karl Malone and Gary Payton leave, I'll probably cheer for the Lakers.

Well I like Green Bay Because of Brett Farve. I think it is more a fan issue than a local issue when it comes to pro sports. As far as college goes UF, FSU, FAMU, AND MIAMI ALL THE WAY!!!!

If you like another state's team because of a player or coach....do you stay with them after they leave, or move some where else? Like I said before, my cheering for the Lakers is only because of Phil Jackson. Also Ron Harper, and Horace Grant both former Bulls, have been on the Lakers during their 21st centurty championship runs. Their were even discussions about having Scottie Pippen & Michael Jordan on the team at one point. However once Jackson leaves the Lakers I'm gone! I probably will root for the Bulls again (I've already started when Krause left, and Tim Floyd quit); however, there is nothing to cheer for. I live in New Jersey, and the Nets are moving to Brooklyn......I ain't got no team! :maddd:

for me i will most likely stay with the Bulls but i also follow Garnett
i'm sure next season i will be pulling for the Bulls to make the playoff
which is a long shot but if Garnett move on i will too yes move else where
I too like P.Jackson & kobe but the rest makes me don't like the Lakers

Wherever Spree goes...I go. That's my motto. I liked Golden State , New York and now Minesotta. He'll probably be in Minesotta next year too, so that will be the team. Detroit also.

I simply do not like the sports teams in Seattle.

I love the Raiders because I am a true Raider fan, I also like the Titans.

I love the Kings because I like their team work.

I do go to Mariner games, but that is because I love Safeco Field.

I'm really hoping the Seahawks will at least play decent this year.
