View Full Version : Black Men : Do Men Have "Periods?"
Destee 05-13-2004, 05:05 PM Hello Family ... and calm down ... i mean no disrespect by this question.
In voice chat (http://destee.com/chat) recently, Brother Keita mentioned that most aren't aware that there is a specific time of the month that a man's seed, "comes down," or something like that.
Oh Gosh ... i know i'm not quoting him exactly right ... but he said something like this.
Brother Keita ... anyone ... would you please enlighten us?
Thanks.

HODEE 05-14-2004, 08:14 AM This is Funny. Keita, maybe you should come explain? If not it doesn't matter. :puke:
Here are somethings I found would happen and how men would act if we did have periods.
http://pages.towson.edu/romans/python/memperiods.txt
" If men had periods they would brag about the size of their tampons
Since history was recorded, male human beings have built
whole cultures around the idea that penis-envy is "natural"
to women--though having such an unprotected organ might be
said to make men more vulnerable, and the power to give
birth makes womb-envy at least logical. In short, logic has
nothing to do with it. What would happen, for instance, if
suddenly, magically, men could menstruate and women could
not? The answer is clear--menstruation would become an
enviable, boast-worthy, masculine event:
Men would brag about how long and how much.
Boys would mark the onset of menses, that longed-for proof
of manhood, with religious ritual and stag parties.
The US Congress would fund a National Institute of
Dysmenorrhea to help stamp out monthly discomforts.
Sanitary supplies would be federally funded and free. (Of
course, some men would still pay for the prestige of
commercial brands such as John Wayne Tampons, Muhammed Ali's
Rope-a-dope Pads, Joe Namath Jock Shields--"For Those Light
Bachelor Days," and Robert "Baretta" Blake Maxi-Pads.) :thanks:
Military men, right-wing politicians, and religious
fundamentalists would cite menstruation ("MENstruation") as
proof that only men could serve in the army ("You have to
give blood to take blood"), occupy political office ("Can
women be aggressive without that steadfast cycle governed by
the planet Mars?"), be priests and ministers ("how could a
woman give her blood for our sins"), or rabbis ("Without the
monthly loss of impurities, women remain unclean"). :eeek:
Male radicals, left-wing politicians, and mystics, however,
would insist that women are equal, just different; and that
any woman could enter their ranks if only she were willing
to self-inflict a major wound every month ("You MUST give
blood for the revolution"), recognize the preeminence of
menstrual issues, or subordinate her selfness to all men in
their Cycle of Enlightenment. :rolling:
Street guys would brag ("I'm a three-pad man") or answer
praise from a buddy ("Man, you are lookin' good") by giving
fives and saying, "Yeah, man, I'm on the rag!" :puke: :bomb:
TV shows would treat the subject at length.
* "Happy Days": Richie and Potsie try to convince Fonzie
that he is still "The Fonz," though he has missed two
periods in a row.
* So would newspapers. (JUDGE CITES MONTHLY STRESS IN
PARDONING RAPIST.)
* And movies. (Newman and Redford in "Blood Brothers"!)
Men would convince women that intercourse was more
pleasurable at "that time of the month." Lesbians would be
said to fear blood and therefore life itself--though
probably only because they needed a good menstruating man.
Of course, male intellectuals would offer the most moral and
logical arguments. How could a woman master any discipline
that demanded a sense of time, space, mathematics, or
measurement, for instance, without that in-built gift for
measuring the cycles of the moon and planets--and thus for
measuring anything at all? In the rarefied fields of
philosophy and religion, could women compensate for missing
the rhythm of the universe? Or for their lack of symbolic
death-and-resurrection every month? "
Have fun with this!

Pharaoh Jahil 04-21-2005, 07:51 PM I don't think we have periods but I do know that we have our moments.
Peace...
selecta 05-05-2005, 02:24 PM we have our moments of the signs or attitudes, but no periods. wow. this made me laugh. but i understand why destee asked.
Ralfa'il 05-18-2005, 02:09 PM Men don't have periods, but many men DO suffer from something called "male menopause" as they get older.
Some people call it the "mid-life crisis".
SAMURAI36 05-18-2005, 02:41 PM All a "Period" is, is a chemical imbalance.
Men do indeed have such, even though it's not of the menstral sort.
Ralfa'il 05-18-2005, 02:55 PM All a "Period" is, is a chemical imbalance.
Men do indeed have such, even though it's not of the menstral sort.
According to the dictionary:
PERIOD
Pronunciation: 'pir-E-&d
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English pariode, from Middle French periode, from Medieval Latin, Latin, & Greek; Medieval Latin periodus period of time, punctuation mark, from Latin & Greek; Latin, rhetorical period, from Greek periodos circuit, period of time, rhetorical period, from peri- + hodos way
1 : the completion of a cycle, a series of events, or a single action : CONCLUSION
2 a (1) : an utterance from one full stop to another : SENTENCE (2) : a well-proportioned sentence of several clauses (3) : PERIODIC SENTENCE b : a musical structure or melodic section usually composed of two or more contrasting or complementary phrases and ending with a cadence
3 a : the full pause with which the utterance of a sentence closes b : END, STOP
4 obsolete : GOAL, PURPOSE
5 a : a point . used to mark the end (as of a declarative sentence or an abbreviation) -- often used interjectionally to emphasize that no more need be said <I don't remember -- period> b : a rhythmical unit in Greek verse composed of a series of two or more cola
6 a : a portion of time determined by some recurring phenomenon b (1) : the interval of time required for a cyclic motion or phenomenon to complete a cycle and begin to repeat itself (2) : a number k that does not change the value of a periodic function f when added to the independent variable; especially : the smallest such number c : a single cyclic occurrence of menstruation
7 a : a chronological division : STAGE b : a division of geologic time longer than an epoch and included in an era c : a stage of culture having a definable place in time and space
8 a : one of the divisions of the academic day b : one of the divisions of the playing time of a game
synonyms PERIOD, EPOCH, ERA, AGE mean a division of time. PERIOD may designate an extent of time of any length <periods of economic prosperity>. EPOCH applies to a period begun or set off by some significant or striking quality, change, or series of events <the steam engine marked a new epoch in industry>. ERA suggests a period of history marked by a new or distinct order of things <the era of global communications>. AGE is used frequently of a fairly definite period dominated by a prominent figure or feature <the age of Samuel Johnson>.
I've read nothing about a "chemical imbalance" in this definition.
A period is just a length of time.
A woman's mentration is often refered to as a "period" because it comes at a certain marked TIME or CYCLE each month.
SAMURAI36 05-18-2005, 03:31 PM We all know that you are quite pedestrian when it comes to knowing the English language, but that is why I apostrophized ("") "Period".
If you bothered to even read the definitions that you posted (we all know you didn't), you'd notice that the cycle of menstruation does not appear therein either.
Speaking of menstruation, all that cycle is, is a chemical imbalance, as I previously stated.
And men do indeed undergo "periods" (cycles) of chemical imbalances; those balances are not as scheduled as women's are (not necessarily related to our reproductive systems), but they do exist.
PEACE

If my memory and vision serves me correct.
What you previously stated was simply..and I quote:
All a "Period" is, is a chemical imbalance.
I didn't read the word "cycle" in there.
You said a period was a CHEMICAL DISORDER, not a time frame.
And you were wrong.
