I recently got a tattoo, on my upper right arm. For everyone that has a tattoo (or tattoos), I have questions about how to take care of it over the next few days.

How often should I rinse it off (with or without mild soap)?

How many times a day should I apply the bacitracin ointment on it?

Because I weight train, I have always used cocoa butter on my arms to remove stretch marks. Will using cocoa butter dull the color or design of my new tat?

I’ve been told that it will eventually scab up. When should I expect this to happen? What should I do when it happens?

I got it done 3 days ago. How long should I expect this God awful itching to last? Is there anything I can do to alleviate some (if not all) of the itching?

Finally, (if you don't my sharing on a personal level) what is the meaning of or story behind your tattoo?

Mine is just a dragon, no specific meaning, just a dragon since i like them so much. It's not really detailed, it's more tribal style, just a fill, but with dark green ink. I want to get a couple of swords because I collect them so I think it would be cool to have one in ink. What's your tattoo of?

Mine is an Aztec Bat, with the word TZIN 5 (pronounced zin 5, the "T" is silent) written on it.

i got my most recent tattoo last year august (eye of horus). i have 4 tattoos total (see thread: Me and My Tattoos (http://www.destee.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25177)). i did the whole bacitracin thing for my first tattoo (arm band) only. that was too messy and too much trouble for me by the time i got my second tattoo (butterfly). all you really have to do is treat it the same you would any other wound... keep it clean. you shouldn't use any vaseline. uhhh... i used antibacterial soap. i did not use any type of moisturizer until they were scabbed up. i think the grease is supposed be bad for the ink or something. there are a lot of websites online that will give u instructions on how to care for your tattoos.

the meanings of my tattoos:

arm band: at the time i got it (21 years old) there was not a reason. i just thought that arm bands were cool ever since i was 16 years.

my butterfly: ideally, i would like to live my life by just going where the wind takes me. and i have always loved the beauty of butterflies.

eye of horus: represents my rebirth both spiritually and culturally. i have also always had a weird fascination with eyes even before i ever heard of the eye of horus.

my fourth tattoo: is my personal nickname for my boyfriend (we just celebrated our 5 year anniversary)

I have one tattoo.. Left shoulder.. it's an ankh.

I washed mine.. with mild antibacterial soap, and put some unscented lotion on it when it started to itch/peel. The tat place I went to recommended Neosporin.

I have a tattoo of a Carebear. When I was younger I used to love the heart bear. When I got older that became an automatic nickname...people who meet me give me that nickname right away.

So a carebear seemed like a natural choice for a tattoo.

My sister has Japanese writing on her, she too does not know what it says or what it means.

I ain't never felt the japanese and chinese characters who's to say them folk are telling you the truth...a dude I know has some on his arm and this Chinese girl we know told him the other day that it doesn't mean anything really just lines...I was rolling....lol...I have a cross with rose on my right forearm says In Memory of Robert L. Williams ( My Daddy) on my right shoulder I have a Flying bird with banner that says Lynda Williams, on the left side of my chest I have a Lion's head ( me) and my baby boy's name around it..Omar Robert Williams, I have Mississippi on my back in Olde English , on my left shoulder I have an Ankh with a breeze coming out of it with my Wife(Janet) my Oldest son (Osiris Andre Williams) and my Daughter(Jada khalilah Williams) I have Strange Fruit poem on the inside of my left forearm and on right side of my chest I have a Skull with a black rose in his teeth a cross on his forehead and NN on his chin..over it says R.I.P. Disco Kid ideas for maybe two or three more for this year...
I think if you put that ink on your body it should mean something ...my tats show different things I was thinking at those times in my life.. I want folk to look at me and get an idea of who I am...still love women with tats though love em...ummmmmhmmmm :grin:

The tattoos itched like crazy...woooo but i used the bactirin as welll...2 of em healed weird...ackkk...I love tattoos...i have my nose pierced as well..all tattoos are well covered..when people do see em..they trip out cuz im so innocent looking lol..go figure

no one looks innocent.....only not as dirty and the next person...

I have one tat on the back of my neck of the sexual chakra symbol. I got it because of my strong beliefs in human sexuality, reproduction and fertility. When I wear my hair up, brothers love to comment on it...especially when I tell them what it is.
