Now that the season has ended and the real games begun
as hot match up and deep emotions flowing in the NBA
who do you see in the finals for 2004 ?
can the LAKERS make a come back to be champions ?

Will the NETS over power the PACERS who are the choice
to take the EASTERN conf.?

Can the T-wolves go pass the second round
or will the dajavu hit them with DENVER now that carmello
have Denver up and running as a rookie ?

NEXT YEAR LeBron James !!!
what are you thoughts and game face you see winning the
Championship for the title and Crown of NBA Basketball 2004
who will get spanked :spank:

Lakers v. Nets in the Finals.

$$RICH$$
04-26-2004, 06:05 PM
PACERS sweeps the CELTICS and the NET sweep the KNICKS
LAKERS should take down the ROCKETS in the next show down
as the SPURS simply dominated Memphis as DENVER still have life
Carmello & Co gave the T-WOLVES something to think about at HOME

now come the PISTONS who better watch out
and the KINGS and MAVS are the hottest match up series
KINGS will pull away in this one

I think that it will be San Antonio vs. Detroit.

I like Detroit now that Rasheed is playing alond side Big Ben. Their defense is sick too. I think defense wins games. I think they will surprise Indiana. The Lakers are having trouble with Houston, so I don't think they'll fair well against San Antonio. They might, maybe seeing the defending champs in the second round will wake them up a bit. Sacramento plays no "D" as does Dallas, so without defense there will be no ring. Minnesota will get to the second round and play Sacramento and win, but will lose to San Antonio in Western Conference Finals.

$$RICH$$
04-26-2004, 09:02 PM
yeah but the NETS are very strong i like the Pacers game plan the PISTONS
will have lots of trouble with both of these teams I see the PACERS in the EAST
my wild suprise will be the NETS who knows what it takes but will it be over the
Pacers not so sure yeap the PACERS
i think the LAKERS will fall in the second round this year and with Kobe tril maybe
starting soon it will take the focus off the game a lot and i agree MAVS & KINGS
lack tighter D" this will allow a team like the SPURS to bang them and rack up points
the true underdog in the playoffs is DENVER which will not advance to the next round as the T-Wolves will wake up and know these are the playoff win or go home
i can't see the HEAT going far at all the Wolves is the team that can play and match
up with Duncan & the Spurs it will get even hotter down the road i see the T-Wolves
in the WEST

PACERS & T-WOLVES in the finals

panafrica
04-26-2004, 09:46 PM
The Lakers have been struggling against the Rockets because of Yao Ming. No other team in the West has a center who is large enough to bother Shaq. The Spurs can upset the Lakers, but I think LA will beat them in the Western Conference Finals. In the Eastern Conference Finals I see Detriot & New Jersey. Of this match-up I see the experience of the Nets being the deciding factor.

$$RICH$$
04-26-2004, 10:16 PM
now i agree with that , yes the NETS will have it but the Pacers are high flying
and seem to be hungery for a title the LAKERS are deep in depth and can be
strong if they get by the second round i see them falling i like the T-Wolves
but reality i have a change of heart and say SPURS vs Pacers you have open up
some good points here Yoa is big trouble for any team but after that Houston
is subside as a no factor or threat

panafrica
04-27-2004, 06:02 AM
I don't see the Lakers falling to the Timberwolves, they've only gotten past the 1st round for the 1st time in 7 tries. I do think the wolves have a strong team though. The Kings have too many injuries to go all the way (which is ashame because they have the talent & will, but can never enter the playoffs with a heathly team). The only team that can beat the Lakers is the Spurs.

kente417mojo
04-27-2004, 02:15 PM
It is a shame the Kings are so banged up because they have a fun team to watch. I think if they are healthy with the same roster next year they will be the team. I like the Spurs because they have guys who make big plays (Duncan, Ginoblili, Parker, Horry, Bowen) and they play tight "D". I think their defense will mess with any team and their offense is not bad either. Plus they can play half court ball against the Lakers. Lakers defense lacks against pick & roll and Shaq is not the force as far as block shots like he used to be. Plus San Antonio will go at Shaq which no other team seems to want to do. If Detroits offense continues to be ok then I think they'll upset the Pacers. Though Jermaine O'neil and Ron Artest will cause problems for Detroit. Rasheed Wallace will be the key to Detroit advancing. If Yao would go to the post instead of settling for fade aways and long range jumpers then Houston would have a chance to upset Lakers because they also kill them with the pick & roll. But he's too timid right now. Whatever team plays Lakers, go a Shaq, that's the key.

The window of opportunity is closing for the Kings. I remember when the Bulls reached the Finals for the 1st time in 1991, Jordan said they had to win it, because there are no guarantees that they'd be back. The same is true for every team. The Kings only have a few years to be near the top before they begin to slip. Their best years have been wasted by injuries to key players.

kente417mojo
04-28-2004, 01:05 PM
That's true Pan. I think too their defense lacks because of the injuries, as they have very few players that can move freely and defend affectively. I think they might have next year if they keep the same team and if Brad Miller and Webber get 100% in the off-season. They are still very deep and talented with great passers. I think the best teams next year will be San Antonio and I think Indiana and Detroit will step it up also. That's true about what Jordan said though. I don't think the Kings have that mentality, that urgency to get it done.

panafrica
04-28-2004, 04:32 PM
The Kings better develop that mentality to get it done when they can. "Next Year" is not always available to you!

$$RICH$$
04-29-2004, 01:25 AM
that go for a lot of them because next year you will see
a lot of different teams in the mix so this need to be the
year for NETS or PACERS to rise up and know the Pistons
will return again next year for sure but the Kings are fading
as DENVER rise

panafrica
04-29-2004, 11:13 AM
The 2nd round should be interesting: Lakers-Spurs

kente417mojo
04-29-2004, 01:15 PM
Very true. The Kings are fading fast. Denver, Memphis, Detroit and Indiana are on the rise. That series is gonna be classic between the Lakers and Spurs. They have won the last 5 championships. That should be the Western Conference Finals right there. I will be watching all the games in this one. I think it will be the Spurs in 6 games.

panafrica
04-29-2004, 02:32 PM
Western Conference Finals?...my man this is probably the NBA Finals. Who ever wins this series is going to take it all. I think after this series everything else will be a formality.

kente417mojo
04-29-2004, 06:16 PM
Very true, what was I thinking. No one in the East will be winning the title. Last years series was good too. I can't wait til Saturday. Either team can win on the others court, that's what's gonna make this one good. Not to mention the fact that the court will be filled with big name palyers.

True Khasm, I like Detroit in the East. I didn't know they had a winnig record in the West with the remaining teams. Their defense does it. That's why the Spurs are tough too, as well as Indiana. I hope the Spurs play as good in game two. One good thing is even after they lost their lead to the Lakers, the came back for the victory. That shows they don't fold and get intimidated because, unlike other teams, they know they can beat the Lakers. Everyone else comes into the game thinking they're gonna loose. Mental defeat from the start makes it hard to put a team away. Spurs don't have that problem. Plus Duncan makes gig shots, as does Parker and Robert Horry. That's a championship type team. Shaq says it was a feel-out game. What's there to feel out. They beat you last year in the playoffs, you should be familiar with this team by now. They always play you tough in regular season also. Shaq better stop sleeping on San Antonio or he'll be watching the Finals from his livingroom.

I think the LAKERS will come back stronger they are starting to look weak
as the SPURS are getting stronger the T-Wolves will be tough on the KINGS
look for the Hornets to face off with the PACERS
the Lakers may fall short in this series here

panafrica
05-04-2004, 09:52 AM
The T-wolves are pretty banged up like the Kings, but they still have a chance to upset them. The Lakers can't make any mistakes against the Spurs, if they lose the next game it might be over for them.

I don't think Gary Payton has that defense left in him. He's getting older and I think he can stop Parker here and there, but the duration of the game I think he'll get ran. For the Lakers to win they have to limit mistakes. They have to find a way to defend the pick and roll. They have to feed Shaq the ball all game long and they have to hit open shots when he passes out of the post. I don't think they can do all that. The Spurs just have to play pick and roll B-Ball and play defense and take care of the ball. Also, Duncan has to stay out of foul trouble. We all know neither Shaq or Duncan will hit their I free-throws so I think that evens up the free throw matchup. I think the T-Wolves might upset the Kings. The Kings look really vulnerable right now. No defense. Detroit blew out the Nets last night. I think Detroit is better this year. My prediction

T-Wolves vs. Spurs WCF Winner: Spurs
Pacers vs. Detroit ECF Winner: Pistons

panafrica
05-04-2004, 02:38 PM
The Lakers have had problems defending the pick & roll since the days of Stockton & Malone on the Utah Jazz. Although that was under the leadership of Dell Harris, they still struggle with it. If they are going to learn, it better be quick.

I tell you the LAKERS going down in this series they can't match up
Payton getting burn Parker has him on this heels and the T-Wolves
just had a taste of bittersweet i mean Mike Bibby was red hot and
did the things to win game one Webber was way off Cassell was all
the fire power the Wolves had sprewell was off key they better see

05-06-2004, 12:19 PM
Yeah, it looks dim for the Lakers. But one thing about this series is each team can win on the others court. That's worse for the Lakers right now because if the Spurs get one in LA, it's really over. If the Lakers hold it down in LA and then come back and steal one in San Antonio, they'll be ok. Do I think that will happen......No. I think SA will get one in LA and go home 3-1. We'll have to see. That cross-over was nasty though. Devinn better tap his ankles for next game. Better yet, he should just stay on the pine. I don't think the Lakers are consistant enough to beat the Spurs. I also think the Spurs have it in their heads that they are a better team than the Lakers.

Fisher spends more time laying on his back than playing basketball. Karl Malone just looks to get fouled every play. Gary Payton in too bust chasing Tony Parker around the building, so he's too tired to score. So basically it's Shaq and Kobe against the Spurs. I really hope the Lakes don't win. I would like to see the so called "Mailman" end his career without a ring. I like GP, but Malone, I can't stand him. I too think it's over, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Lakers steal one in SA. Sometimes teams get a little cocky after a couple of wins and they let their guard down. I like San Antonio to win it all. Where do you think Tony Parker ranks as far as point guards in the league? We already know Duncan is arguably the best power forward in the game.

$$RICH$$
05-06-2004, 05:41 PM
I say the Lakers is going down in this series they might win 2 before
it's over G.P can't hold Parker and they need a younger set of legs to
gaurd him and let payton focus on putting up a few point to help Kobe
& shaq but Parker is playing so well he's going to be hard to handle
Duncan is going to get his and one of the top forward/centers in the game
down 2-0 the Lakers will have a fire in them in game 3....

05-10-2004, 02:37 AM
as i said the Lakers came out with fire and payton had a wake up call
scoring point and Parker was lost in game 3 Lakers jump on them and
never looked back shutting down Parker & Duncan tough D" in this one

The T-Wolves came from 10 down in the last 3+ min to get the WIN
and the NETS came up big on the Pistons martin / Kittles / Jefferson 30
came up big with Kidd 12 asst. the heat was on and will get hotter in game 4

This was a great game and in OT the T-Wolves came up a point winner
very tired Garnett hit a buzzer beater basket to put the wolves up by one
in overtime with seconds left to seal the win and the big block on Deja shot
did it with cassell fouled out the Kings came stroming back tie it and take it
to OT then bibby fouled out big lost for both teams at that point GARNETT
was beat down drain but seal the win .....big ups to the MVP !
can they stay focus and seal another win if so this will back the KINGS in a
corner and i smell trouble WOLVES IN 6 .

panafrica
05-11-2004, 06:15 AM
Okay I watched the sportscenter highlight. I think Peja was clearly fouled at the end, but so was KG when the refs called traveling. What we had there was the so-called "make up call". I don't think this always balances out, but here it did.

05-11-2004, 01:46 PM
I saw the game and it was a good one. I can't believe the T-Wolves almost lost that game. They pulled it out, but they better look at what happened to their lead. Yeah, Peja got hacked on that last play, but the refs screwed the Wolves a few times before that. Plus, at the end of a game you're not getting that call. It was definately a great game.

The Lakers better play as a team the rest of the way to have a chance. They have shown that they can't play as a team for long periods of time so we'll have to wait and see. Plus San Antonio's top guys had a terrible game, how many times will that happen? Bottom line, San Antonio only has to hold down home court and they're cool. Lakers have to go get one in Texas. Lakers took game 3,4 last years also if I'm not mistaken and still lost in 6 games, so one win means nothing. Not saying that they can't beat the Spurs, but one game doesn't do it no matter how much you win by. It's still 2-1 whether you win by 1 or 24.

Python...are you a Laker fan man? It's not too late to hop on the Black and Silver express man.

Lakers can still do it for sure if they continue to gel together
even if the spurs top guns are loaded because kobe can explode
for 40+ any given night and shaq adding and if payton play like he did
the Lakers can do it but the spurs are ready and strong a very good team
so i see them taking it in 6
the T-Wolves was tired at the end of regulation ! Garnett was beat down
but he pull off a shot with seconds left to seal the win don't matter how
this one of the best Road teams they can take control if they win the next

You know what, I think Kenny "The jet" Smith made a good point after yesterdays game. Minnesota is getting easier baskets that Sac. Sac has to make alot of 3-pointers and jump shots because they have no inside presence. Minnesota has people who take the ball to the hole even though they shoot less free-throws. Sac has to make those jump shots to be successful because they also don't play defense. I think that gives the T-Wolves a big advantage because jump shots a 3-pointers don't always fall. Even for Sac to rally back last night, it took unbelievable shooting in the final minutes just to catch Minnesota. That's why Dallas will never win a championship with their current team because jump shots and three pointers with no defense will not always be consistant.

I don't know man. The Lakers are good, but a little inconsistant. Kobe and Shaq will have to have help to beat the Spurs. Lakers did play very well after All-Star break indeed. Tony Parker will play well and so will Duncan. I think the difference at the end will be the defense. They do have what it takes to steal a game but it won't be easy. Spurs are too tough and too consistant. Lakers won't continue to gel like last game. If they do I'll be very surprised. Even if they win tonight...they can't keep it up. Lakers have peeks and valleys like no other team in the league. Plus they don't get Shaq the ball enough. They wait til their backs are against the wall to dish it to the big man. Like Stu Lantz says "That won't get it done". They do have a chance though. I still think it will be 4-2 victory for San Antonio. It's not too late.
All aboard.

KG is the man. He made the big play. He's up 2-1, took back home court from the Kings. Granted, they shouldn't have had to go to overtime to do it. I think the Kings will have to step up the defense. Cassell won't get into foul trouble again like last game and Peja won't hit those miracle 3-pointers again for a long time. I think the Kings are done. Defense is killing them.

I also have a change of opinion on this one. The Lakers have shown heart. It will go to 7 games, but the Spurs will still be victorious. I still don't think they can sustain the energy the entire series like they have the last 2 games. They played those games with a sense of urgencies because they were "must win" games. The Lakers fall off when their backs are not against the wall. It's tied now so let's see if the Lakers play with that intensity come game 5.

I think Duncan and Parker will show up for this one. So will Kobe and Shaq, but will the rest of the team? That's the question. T-Wolves almost pulled out another one. I think they still have control over the series. They played terrible and still had a chance to steal that game. Sacramento will lose the next 2 games. They (Wolves) won't lose another in Minnesota. I agree, Pacers in 6. So let's see what happens. Definately if the Spurs win tonight, the series is over.

After years of watching my Bulls beat down Malone & Payton.....I started feeling sorry for them. My lasting memory of Malone will always be him getting the ball stolen by Jordan in game 6 of the 1998 NBA Finals. Now that the Bulls are no more, I am cheering for them to win a ring.

I wouldn't mind the Lakers winning the championship (I mean, I'm still a Laker hater, don't get me wrong) but what made me really despise them is Karl Malone and Gary Payton taking huge pay-cuts to jump aboard the best team in the NBA. I don't think that admirable like everyone else does. I think it hurts the game for players to do that and I hope this will be the last time. I don't want that to become the trend, for players to pile up on one team for a sure thing. I mean, then we'll see Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady, Jason Kidd, Kevin Garnett, Kobe, Shaq and Tim Duncan all on the Lakers running the league for 10 straight years, all getting paid the NBA minimum. What a league that would be. :bazooka:

I will admit, seeing Kobe play this year, he is the best player in the game hands down. When it comes to big plays, no other player is feared like him and for good reason. I have to give it to him. The one person I didn't want to get the ball with .4 of a second left was him.

Very true. He did hit a great shot. That's one of those things that you can live with though. He will miss those shots more times than not. It was flat-out a good shot. I wouldn't want Kobe beating me with last minute shots all the time though, so to have Fisher get the ball is acceptable.

battle the LAKERS ........wow it was a very high steppin game Parker fell apart in
the last three games as payton step up his game and shaq doing his thing kobe
floating look like the unstoppable Lakers of old ....too much depth for da spurs

look like the PACERS will rack this one up as well the HEAT can't take two in a row
to bounce back and win this series i think it will play out to the PACERS & NETS
the pistons having too much trouble and Kidd game is on with Jefferson & Martin
Kittle just too much fire power

Kobe Bryant scored 10 of his 23 points in the third quarter, which the Lakers closed on an 11-0 run, as his team won 97-88 in Minnesota on Friday, taking a 1-0 lead in the Western Conference Finals. Shaquille O'Neal led all scorers with 27 points and 18 rebounds.

The Nets went out like punks.....I expected them to lose (you don't go home up 3-2, and give up home court). However I didn't think they'd get blown out. The Lakers did what I expected them to do. I think the Timberwolves will be lucky to win 2 games in this series.....watch out for them next year though!!

$$RICH$$
05-23-2004, 01:10 AM
I have to agree the Wolves might get one the LAKERS will be extremely
to much however The Pistons showed up and cake walk the NETS who
i had to win this series boy i was ever so wrong they came apart like
a grade school team .....but next year you will see most of these guys
and team back at it watch the new rising teams to bump a few out for a
spot like DENVER & MEMPHIS two teams i see on the rise !

Pacers took game one as i expected them to do at home on a Miller closer
the Tray and then adding his one of two freethrow to seal this victory
but the Pistons will come out with the Wallace guys in game 2 and crash the
pacers..................Pacers in 6 for a shot at the title

or will the Pacers come out with fire and smart game plan to take this

i think the pacers will win and force a game seven and move on past
the pistons but i love to see them in to face the Lakers the wallace boyz

pacers they only have J.O'neal who will have trouble with Shaq down low .

Of all the East teams I think Detriot has the best shot; however, I still think the Lakers will win (unless there is a injury). The real issue is: Rich......you're from chicago man! How can you ever cheer for the Pistons?

panafrica
06-05-2004, 07:26 AM
can anyone from another state root 4 detroit? :(

Don't get me wrong Python.....there is a distinct rivalry between Chicago & Detriot. The Pistons tormented the Bulls when Jordan & Pippen were coming up. The rivarly was so intense that when the Bulls finally got past the Pistons in the 1991 playoffs...the Bad Boys walked off the court with 30 seconds left rather than shake the Bulls hands. Although the players are long gone...the rivalry is still there. A Chicagoan cheering for the Pistons is like someone in the Bronx cheering for the Boston RedSox.

$$RICH$$
06-05-2004, 10:50 PM
the heated rivalry between Chicago & Detroit is still strong
surely Chicago is my choice even if they don't have any chance
to get back as a contender but sure you can pull for a nother state
one thing for sure it won't be L.A
I took the scraps left i'm not a L.A fan and anybody who can off set
the LAKERS i'm for it which leave the last hope to spoil the party is
the Pistons don't get me wrong i'm not a lover for this team who tryed to
shame the BULLS for years til we caught fire and burn them all they cound
do was walk away being the less men standing and the water still boils today
i do like Ben Wallace he's a complete player in the game
i still hope Detroit drop the Lakers which i kinda know it's not going to happen
but a man can wish you know.... All this is my wish factor .

panafrica
06-07-2004, 02:27 PM
Well Rich got his wish (at least partially). The Pistons took game 1! Although I have to say Detriot played great, and the Lakers played terrible. This isn't the 1st time a Phil Jackson team lost game 1 of the Finals (the Bulls lost game 1 in 1991, 1998, and 2000), yet the have always come back to win. While the Pistons are a good team, the Lakers are better, and should win over a 7 game series.

The other day in chat I teased CaramelPython about a psychic on the radio station I listen to, who picked a Detriot upset. I don't usually take much stock on this art.....but it appears she might be right. The Lakers are in trouble....they should not be struggling like this at home. Detriot came to win, and Payton/Malone seem to have forgotten that even though Kobe & Shaq are on their team, they still have to play if they want their 1st ring! I think the series will come back to LA....but I wouldn't be surprised if Detriot wins 2 out of 3 at home. I said that LA better step it up after game 1.....well they better step it up some more!

happy69
06-11-2004, 04:43 AM
Detrioit won again! I'm pulling for them to take it in 6. Kobe just has to be checked hard and he is shut down--but I have never in his career seen where he can shut anyone down. Big Ben and others are of course just side-orders up against Shaq, all they can do is try to contain; that in and of itself is enough. It is sad to see Payton is one step behind...age has caught up with a fearless warrior. K. Malone, waited it all these years to start being debilitated with injuries... he needs to just rest the knee. I hope Rashid can push just a tad bit more off of his bad foot; When he and Big Ben and T. Prince get it going on those boards...whoa! Rip is like A.I. he just keeps on ticking! Chauncey has surprised me!

Yo, boys, and I love Shaq (We went to school together for awhile); are looking tired and a little lost out there... Go, Pistons!

panafrica
06-11-2004, 05:59 AM
I know it is only 3 games down, but I think the Lakers are done! This is 5-on-2 basketball, and now the Pistons defense is cracking down on Kobe! The Lakers look lost not only on offense, but defense as well. The Detriot attack is so balanced, that the Lakers don't know who to concentrate on. The new Bad Boys are forcing LA to play defense for 48 minutes, which they don't like to do. Last year in the WNBA the Detriot Shock upset the LA Sparks to win the title.....it looks like history is repeating itself with the men!

P.S. The media is calling Gary Payton done & old. This isn't fair! To me he looks like he did 8 years ago.....he disappeared in the 1996 Finals too! :D

kente417mojo
06-11-2004, 12:48 PM
I hope the Pistons take them. I'm not going to lie, I counted the Pistons out before the Finals even started. I didn't think they'd do this good against the Lakers. I thought the front-line was too small, even though they have the best "D". Karl and Gary are showing that they are indeed just along for the ride, because they have been non-factors. If Shaq and Kobe have one good game that leads to victory in Detroit this whole series is different, so I won't count my chickens before they hatch. Detroit has shown that they can win in L.A. so it wouldn't be over....just a long shot because I'm not sure if the Lakers would drop 2 in L.A. Detroit needs to make sure this ends in Detroit since in the Finals they play 2(home)- 3(road) then- 2(home). Detroit will hopefully keep the defense tight and there will be a trophy for the Motor City.

$$RICH$$
06-11-2004, 05:13 PM

However, that being said, I don't think the Pistons could have beaten San Antonio....that matched up better with them than LA does.

Oooooh panafrica, I don't know about that one man. I think the Pistons (playing like they are playing) could have taken San Antonio. I think L.A. matches up with Detroit better than San Antonio does. I think Shaq and Kobe have a better chance because they have a better inside presence. Duncan would have a tough time against Rasheed Wallace and Ben Wallace because he tends to fade away alot when there's defense on the inside. The Spurs would have been forced to live alot from outside (as they did against the Lakers) and would have to hit a high percentage. They (Spurs) actually chose to live from the outside against the Lakers because Detroit is killing the Lakers inside, which I never though would happen. But like I said, the Lakers are soft inside. Shaq is not the shot-blocking force he used to be, especially when he's tired. I think if S.A would've been aggresive they could've taken the Lakers. But Detroit is the aggresive team and look where it's gotten them. I think it's safe to say "you never know what will happen".

caramelpython
06-15-2004, 02:23 AM
I would have to give it to Pan I agree that S.A. would have a better match up with the Pistons. Duncan is a better shot blocker and he knows rasheed's game. Well we wont know right now but I am looking foward to seeing who is going where next season. :read:
